I have 2 old school BR400 2 strokers. They have the angled tip at the end and wish the new ones still had them. It makes getting into corners and other areas way easier. I have also found that less body moving and let the machine do the work is better, Jmo.

I purchased my first backpack blower on Monday, it was the Stihl BR800X. My dealer said they started with 15 and I purchased the second to last one. I have been raking 2.5 acres of dense leaves by hand for the last 7 years so this is a big treat. I also added a Protero PV18 to my Kubota BX late last fall so leaf cleanup is finally manageable. Before that I felt like I spent all of my free time in October stressing over the leaves.

I have a BR300 that is 18 years old & it works just fine at my house, but at work I use a BR700. I also have a Stihl FS 80 that is as old as my blower. I really like the old 2 stroke engines, these new 4 stroke engines are heavy & as far as the line trimmers go they eat up the string real fast because of the added torque, especially when trimming fences. But yeah, the BR700 is like strapping a push blower on your back, it gets the job done fast.

@joeraptor16 жыл бұрын
I've got the 700. Nice blower but that lack of air speed can be detrimental when you have a lot of leaves to move, especially when they're stuck in flower beds. The 800 seems to have the same volume of air but more air speed as the 700, thus making it more effective from what I'm seeing from your video. Overall though, both still lag behind Echo's new 8010 blower. Stihl should have skipped the 700 and gone directly to the 800. They also should have aimed to have gotten the cfms over 1000 to compete against the Echo. We'll see if Redmax/Husqvarna bring out a competitor next year to these two.
@justinbraathen30775 жыл бұрын
Great comparison between the 800 & 700. Like others have commented, is the 800 a noticeable enough improvement over the 800 to justify upgrading? My decision is yes, even if I save 20-minutes of leaf cleanup each session, it's worth it.

Mike: Thanks from Melissa and I for the leaf blower eval. After watching this I decided to replace my old John Deere. Settled for the BR600 as the 700 is out of stock and no one has seen a 800 series. And I wanted a high velocity NOW. Well, I have no complaint after using the BR600 for 4 hrs yesterday (Sunday) and 90 minutes today. That 600 shaved days off of work that Melissa and I would have had to do with raking, filling a tarp, dragging, using the Z-Turn with the leaf bagger, and then the garden tractor to chew up the rest. Even the 600 series blew wet leaves. Did get in trouble with Melissa when I blew her outdoor flowers and a few Elf figurines out towards the duck pond..heh..heh..

The 800 has the larger fan housing, NOTICEABLY LARGER. That ought to underline the difference between the two. Hey, if you select either one, YOU WIN. They ROCK! PS! Never leave these idling on the ground. Always have them under 100% control. They vibrate and fall over...like mine did...off a cinder block wall and I had to purchase a new one. The fractured one still functioned perfectly, but I couldn't stand to look at my failure...and gave it away.

FYI: When looking at specs on blowers, CFM is way more significant than air velocity. I can probably blow 200 MPH with my mouth if I whistle hard enough, but that won't move very many leaves. How much volume of air is being moved per unit of time means a lot more. I think Stihl is now publishing blower force in newtons which is the force required to accelerate an object to a certain speed.

The real impresive spec that you failed to mention is that the new blower puts out 900 cfm at 230 mph. A blower can have a high wind velosity but, it is the volume of air that the blower puts out and that's what makes it a beast.

Next step: PTO driven blower like are used to dry race tracks. Might have to modify the nozzle a little, but it should be doable. 😁 The turbine engine powered ones like some airports(and maybe Nascar?) have would probably be a bit of overkill, though🤪

I blow the leaves out of my landscaping around the house, but then use my mower to push them out into the surrounding woods. It feels less like herding cats to me, and the finer bits add nutrients to my lawn. It does get a bit dusty, though.

So I got the most powerful hand held one. I think next year I am going to get the back back. If you have a lot of trees on your property they all accumulate at once and throw in a few rain storms in there and now you have wet soggy heavy leaves. You need that extra power.
