Her natural voice which we can hear here was so nice and pleasant to listen to. She was an underrated actress, had a big career in a short time...

My Mom, was in the room with Darryl Zanuck at 20th Century Fox where she worked, when Norma Jean Baker ( or Mortensen or Dougherty) was brought in to hopefully get a contract . She told me years later, at this first audition no one thought anything of her. She was dismissed, and shown the door. Later on, she got a contract. It wasn’t her talent that did it. This was the way beautiful women were routinely treated in Hollywood.
@DavidVarkonyi3 жыл бұрын
@@marjoriemargel1567 Well EVERYONE needs a break to be successful. Many talented artists are never heard of. Marilyn got her break after Niagara and she was picked up and promoted and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes made her a star. She was a great actress, Don’t Bother To Knock, Bus Stop, Prince and the Showgirl, The Misfits are all excellent dramatic performances along with her comedic ones. She have passed away 2 months after her 36th birthday, but she had already proved she deserved her success! She was talented , just her growing up destroyed her and her Mom was in a mental institution since she was young, her own fragile state all her life .
@dogsalwaysbarkatbetamaleswoof2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidVarkonyi that person insinuated that whatever MM did to get a contract, had nothing to do with talent. I think everyone questioned MM’s talent at the time when so many others could do the same. Tbh, I liked her in her pre Niagara roles. She could have used her blonde Bimbo fame to demand top billing for anything when she was at her height. I felt she played her hand too weak. But I guess it all worked out for her in the end since she has been solidified as a mythical legend. No one can compete with that.
@DavidVarkonyi2 жыл бұрын
@@dogsalwaysbarkatbetamaleswoof Marilyn paid her dues, she have done many small roles before getting bigger ones. Whoever one sleeps with is their choice, but she got the roles because she had something extra. Of course beauty does count, but her shine came through even in small roles. She became a legend, but she have also proved herself a wonderful actress in her very short career! She was troubled, but one has to just know her upbringing , yet she managed to squeeze a lot into the very short time she was here. Her performances stand the test of time !
@dogsalwaysbarkatbetamaleswoof2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidVarkonyi I don’t know if I agree. If I take away her death, I’m not sure how far she would have gone in the movies. She was on a decline by the time the Ann Margarets, Twiggy, and Bridget Bardots started coming out the woodworks. Her last picture and the birthday wishes to Kennedy brought the spotlight back to her for a bit but I don’t know how much of that would have carried her career onward considering how problematic she continued to be. Then she ran and did an article about fame and her “life story”. I think she hit a real wall when she dabbled with Kennedys because the father still had Hollywood and mob connections, the Kennedys had too much opposition from other mob affiliates and then her drug habit alienated studious from working with her. She was inadvertently creating a huge mess for herself and it seemed she wasn’t prepared. Her legendary status comes from a death sensationalized and her likeness sold, packaged, and prepackaged everywhere to oblivion. Most people are conditioned to align this force feeding with her talent rather than her demise. But it isn’t. It’s just over saturation. I respected her need to start her own production company and the need to acquire serious roles, but it got lost once again when she dabbled with the Kennedys and had a falling out with them. To this day, I still don’t understand what her goal was with them.

What do you mean chose fame? Most actors if not all always had to sleep around to get roles, most were ghey or bi, Rock Hudson, James Dean, Montgomery Clift, Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn etc. It's not a new thing. Marilyn was very smart but they wanted her to act the dumb blonde 😞

Helen, yes I agree. Unfortunately once 20th Century Fox cast Marilyn as the dumb blonde sexpot, that's all they wanted her to be. Marilyn could have done well in roles with more spunk. To be fair she was good in the dumb blonde roles but she could have done roles that were like Jean Harlow did in the 30's, wise cracking and smarter.

You notice her voice isn't that dopey breathless voice , I had the box set of her very early movies sge only done that voice in films were she was meant to be a dumb blonde or putting on the Monroe personar, she was Norma Jean first . Listen to later interviews mainly her last yes she's older but she doesn't sound dim . This is what I hate when people say she can't act , she acted out a whole other person plus played the dumb blonde amazingly her serious rolls such as niagra misfits River of no return even don't other to knock show how diverse she was.

She didnt had a Family to protect her and since they knew she was all alone in this world they take advantage from the situation and killed her They knew she dont have a brother or father or sister or mom who can protect all bad people they knew all that and they said who will follow us or complain file and when they figure no one will fight for her the poor beauty they used her and killed her
@AS-wj1du24 күн бұрын
Exactly. Not mother or father to protect her 😢 People like to be mean about Marilyn using her body for fame but she was abused, many p*rn stars etc end up doing that because of it. They used and are still using her. Even now, films of her making things up, I won't watch them. Marilyn deserved better, men used her for her body. Most men are trash. Maybe only Joe Dimaggio loved her he, he shouldn't have hit her but said sorry and got therapy. She always called on him and he was always there. He and her sister Berniece helped bury Marilyn and he banned all those who hurt her 😢
