@Woohoo Marilyn really never had any true self-esteem. Oh, she knew she could turn people on, but I think her sexuality and "sexiness" was all she believed in about herself. Her story is a sad one. I first watched Marilyn Monroe's films in a time I was ill and looking for things to binge. I wanted to see her films to find out what all the fuss was about, and became an instant fan. But I didn't watch Clash by Night as she didn't have a main role and it sounder grimmer than what I wanted to watch at the time; so it's nice to see her scenes clipped out here! It's a shame when you watch Marilyn here that Fox had to later straight jacket her into dumb blonde sexpot roles. Sadly though that was the times. Marilyn was still charming in her starring roles but they were so limiting. Jean Harlow got a better deal in the 1930's when she got to be smart and wise-cracking in her roles. Marilyn could have been that way if there had been roles like that in the 1950's.

@@joygernautm6641 The notion of a man like that is not realistic in my opinion. Yes, these men existed in the past...and still do. But even those men have been highly idealized by both men and women. Partially due to movies and stories in general. Even the way we look at our fathers' is partially eschewed by our own hopes and biases. One of the main issues is the hero complex. Men and women have spent too much time looking up to idealized "warriors" and "knights in shining armor", that they have failed to look at reality. Supposed "confidence" is just an idea that has many definitions based on the individual. Stoicism is a practice and state of being. And it can be experienced by literally anyone willing to make the effort...man or woman. This inner practice is largely neglected by everybody, and thus we are in the state we are in today.
