It consumes more than 100 l per hour in the aircraft (i don't know the numbers for the car), and up to 600 l per hour with full power demand . It's not only a big engine, it's supercharged with a two stage supercharger originally in the aircraft. For full power it needs 130 octane fuel, which is no longer produced regularly, but it can also be used without the second supercharger stage with 100 octane fuel. But i think it's power reduced in the car, the torque would rip the axle out of the chassis with full power

Legend has it that John Dodd drove this in Germany, when they had temporarily put a speed limit on the autobahn and he got somewhere near 200mph. The German police couldn't catch him, so they reported the registration to the DVLA and asked who owned the car.

The engine weighs around 750 kg, but it lacks the two stage supercharger, so it may be a little bit lighter. It's indeed a 27 l V12, it's the engine which powered the spitfire

@@simonm1447 A Lambo LM002 weighs 2.7t featuring just a 5l V12, a Diablo about 1600, so I think, 2.3 +/- 150kg overall is realistic, when considering a powerful transmission and enforced front chassis?
@simonm14473 жыл бұрын
@@martinb.770 I think the car runs with a power reduced engine. This engine was also use in tanks called Meteor without the supercharger, but it had still up to 650 hp and 1900 Nm torque. You won't find a car transmission suitable for this torque, only heavy truck transmissions would fit. Also this massive torque would probably rip off the drive shafts of the axle.
@martinb.7703 жыл бұрын
@@simonm1447 0:42 looks like an A/T, presumably 3 gears with big torque converter, where it should be easy to limit the torque to the gears. The engine in this car is not a RR Merlin but a RR Meteor engine built by Rover for use in the Centurian tank and rated at 650hp. The only thing in common with the Merlin is they both use the same 27 litre engine block, everything else is different. Never used in an aircraft purely for use in tanks and a very good tank engine it was!
