Guy would never work as a top gear presenter because he is just someone obsessed with engineering and motorsports on the purest level. It is not at all limited to vehicles and when it is vehicles it's about getting your hands dirty and making something go fast by tinkering. Top gear is an entirely different animal, at heart it is a product review show like all of the unboxing/review channels on youtube. It is about admiring a constant stream of new shiny expensive luxury vehicles, which exist more as jewellery than anything resembling motorsports. Guy can and has done TV shows similar to what James may does solo. That works, Guy admiring or criticising the latest offerings from Aston Martin or Bugatti does not.

I have noticed that married men's wives are absolutely insane. They are very possessive of their husbands. Whenever I have a conversation with a married man, their wives are actually spying on us, and listening to the conversation. Then, after only about five minutes, the wife will make some excuse to take the husband away. Have you ever experienced that? Women don't like their husbands talking to single men. Also, I have noticed that married men act like little children, and their wives are like their mommies. This kind of behavior is absolutely crazy to me. I will never be like that. That's one hell of a substitute for an air-conditioner, but a lot more exciting! in the living room, I can just picture it..... Mrs. Martin; "Eyup, Guy, I can't get this fire to draw properly...." - Mr. Martin; "Never mind, luv, I'll fire up the Merlin.... That should give it enough draft!..."

Dad flew Lancaster’s from “D-day” to the end of the war. He too adored the sound, and the look of the motor. Having heard them in the “flesh” I love them too, never heard better, whether on the ground or in the air. Dad always described the lanc as flying 4 spitfires in close formation. Would love to hear a lancaster fly by, one for the bucket list, nice one Guy, cheers from NZ
@LiveMusicOntario5 жыл бұрын
In Canada, the "Mynarski Lancaster" is only a few hours from where I live. There's a rhythmic "throb" from four Merlins when they are in sync on a Lancaster that fills the air and is intoxicating, not just a big loud noise. It sounds great now at air shows, but from someone else who lived through the war, they pondered on how civilians in Germany might have felt being on the other end of 100's of these going overhead. That sticks with me too.

The Merlin was also fitted to the Hispano HA-112 which was a license built Messerschmitt Bf109. A bit ironic a fantastic British engine that helped smash the Luftwaffe was fitted to a German WWII Luftwaffe aircraft design 😳
