Guy would never work as a top gear presenter because he is just someone obsessed with engineering and motorsports on the purest level. It is not at all limited to vehicles and when it is vehicles it's about getting your hands dirty and making something go fast by tinkering. Top gear is an entirely different animal, at heart it is a product review show like all of the unboxing/review channels on youtube. It is about admiring a constant stream of new shiny expensive luxury vehicles, which exist more as jewellery than anything resembling motorsports. Guy can and has done TV shows similar to what James may does solo. That works, Guy admiring or criticising the latest offerings from Aston Martin or Bugatti does not.

The real lesson that doesn't involve either graft or consumption for what's essentially novelty seeking is a place that few can face or master.. Unfortunately for most men, that dream or passion is squelched by a woman entering their life. I am recently divorced, married for 25 miserable yrs. I am beginning to live again for the first time in a long time. I will never have a woman living under my roof ever again, no thanks. Guy Martin seems to have his priorities straight. Good for him. Conversely, I have never seen a truly happy married man. A married man will not admit it, but he is dead inside, as I once was. Women are only good for one thing, and we all know what that is. Fortunately, you don't have to be married or live with them to get that.

@Matt Townend Married men are so pathetic. I got married shortly after college, and this is my first time as an adult, being a single man. I have noticed that married men's wives are absolutely insane. They are very possessive of their husbands. Whenever I have a conversation with a married man, their wives are actually spying on us, and listening to the conversation. Then, after only about five minutes, the wife will make some excuse to take the husband away. Have you ever experienced that? Women don't like their husbands talking to single men. Also, I have noticed that married men act like little children, and their wives are like their mommies. This kind of behavior is absolutely crazy to me. I will never be like that. So sad....Men today are so pathetic.

That's a man who loves his Merlin. And who could blame him. My God. 27 liters, 1600 horsepower. That's 3x the horsepower my car makes at full tilt. What an exquisite piece of engineering. Just beautifully designed & expertly built. ~430mph in the P-51. We really could do great things when our countries worked together towards a common goal. American industrial might and British craftsmanship. I don't have a need in my life (yet) to own a Merlin but I do love stories of people working for, and then attaining their dreams, either in part or in whole. This video makes me happy.

Nice one man. It's the engine, the time and the provenance. That is why I got into British bikes in the early 70's. I've rebuilt BSA 250's up to pre unit BSA 650's with a few Triumphs etc. In between. I've never been interested in foreign bikes and never had one . She was built to run and I hope the front room idea got vetoed by 'the boss's. You talk my language and I love watching your shows. You tell it how it is , a very rare thing indeed these days. My old man volunteered for bomber command in 1940 but ended up in S.O.E. All I can say is 'Nice one, thankyou '.

Dad flew Lancaster’s from “D-day” to the end of the war. He too adored the sound, and the look of the motor. Having heard them in the “flesh” I love them too, never heard better, whether on the ground or in the air. Dad always described the lanc as flying 4 spitfires in close formation. Would love to hear a lancaster fly by, one for the bucket list, nice one Guy, cheers from NZ

In Canada, the "Mynarski Lancaster" is only a few hours from where I live. There's a rhythmic "throb" from four Merlins when they are in sync on a Lancaster that fills the air and is intoxicating, not just a big loud noise. It sounds great now at air shows, but from someone else who lived through the war, they pondered on how civilians in Germany might have felt being on the other end of 100's of these going overhead. That sticks with me too.
