I'm grabbing some of those massive air stones for sure, maybe I can get my hands on that huge sand filter as well. Just going to have to wait and see how it all works out ... he like the hot peppers so I may have room to negotiate. :-)

Truly awesome! If nothing else, if you can stockpile those air stones and possibly the hoses/pipes, the physical structure can be the only real cost to your dream! Fingers crossed.

It would be great if I can salvage any of it but the more the better!

It's such a shame all that will be lost. Cool facility. IMAGINE THE AQUAPONICS YOU COULD DO IN THAT PLACE!

Oh, I already have! Those big, beautiful tanks ... all that water capacity ... pipe it into an attached greenhouse and just watch it all grow!

If you have the time he may very well be willing to trade you some of that hardware for your labour in tearing it down. It sounds like from his perspective it's all just "crap to get rid of" even some of that plastic covering could be saved for mini bed greenhouses, or for cold frame covers. I'm drooling over the salvage treasure trove you've found yourself sir! Happy salvaging if he's cool with it. I would tear through that building in a heartbeat!

I was thinking about offering slave labor for some of the remaining bits and pieces. There are some pretty large chunks of pond liner, loads of air stones, more pipes than you can shake a stick at, be fun to tinker with that big ol' sand filter ... it's a treasure trove indeed!

What a spectacular opportunity to share this with us!!! I hope you picked up a few of those stones, with permission I hope.

Totally unexpected! I didn't grab any yet but life moves pretty slow around here so I'm sure there's still time. :-)

Wow very cool tour. It would have been cool to see it in operation. Hopefully you scored some goodies from there.

Long term potential to score a few things, some are just out of date or busted but even a few of those air stones would be great! Seeing it in action would have been awesome but seeing it's bare bones was pretty educational!

Cool, I hadn't seen a place like that before. Thanks. Not sure how many chocolates I'll be doing, we will see.

Wow what luck that was that you got the install :) To bad you did not get a chance to make your dream happen there. But that just means there is a better opportunity out there for you :)

Exactly, there's almost always another opportunity around the corner!

I know, what are the odds?!? Nice set-up, too bad he's going to tear down the ponds but they're of no use to him. Lol, treasure is only treasure if you value it I guess! Can't believe how close it was to town, I passed by that place loads of times and had no idea!

Hi JT, Seems silly to me to try and grow such a fragile fish that far north. What would be a more appropriate fish for that region? The Babel Fish perhaps? Cheers, Bill
@JTBear7 жыл бұрын
There are loads of hardy fish that could do well with our weather, Arctic Char would be an example, trout, channel cats and a few other things that already live in these thousands of tiny lakes. Or carp perhaps, really pretty & colorful carp ... I think koi would do alright with some basic system improvements. Breeding Babel fish in modern society could get a person killed! Sometimes it better to not know what folks are saying ... Cheers! JT

Is there that much of a market for koi? Do you really need something that big right away? That tank looks like an in ground swimming pool or a basement. How many koi could you grow in a space that size?
@JTBear7 жыл бұрын
The Canadian koi market is quite large and our location is fairly central for shipping/visitors. Do I 'need' something that big right away? No, but it would speed things up quite a bit. Koi need somewhere around 100g per fish to have enough space so I could get loads of them in there while they are still small but as they grew, more tank space would be needed. Outdoor mud ponds are the best way to go as far as bringing out their colors and encouraging growth but that is a whole different issue out here because of our short season and lots of 'happy to spray' farmers.
@Gayle.M7 жыл бұрын
Would it be possible to change that long storage building you have into a mini hatchery? With a summer time swim through access to an outdoor pond? It would get you started with a bit of money coming in that you could then use to expand.

What Latitude are you? Im around 60. I dont think a earthship would work well up here.
