This video on how to fill a scuba tank with an onboard dive compressor, in this case a Bavaria Fun 2, is the only one out there. In this video, you will observe our experience, trepidation, and errors in the first attempts to test out if our Frankenstein system will function.

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!
If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE our videos with your friends!

I can so relate to Eileen’s reactions throughout all of this! I laugh from afar but boy do I understand your utter relief to complete this task. And remember no one got hurt and nothing was broken…sounds like a win to me

Congrats guys on a successful tank fill! 😊. It will be interesting to hear back in 6 months on the status of the unit. Some of the scuba boards did not speak highly but of of course everyone’s experience is unique.

The problem with filling Scuba tanks Dry is compressor will build heat in the air and in the scuba tanks too. need to be sure to have a clean clear input air path. where ever the air intake is what you will be pushing into the compressor and will in the air breathe into your lungs. My background in tanks and compressors comes from 1970 with an oil-less Rex Compressor to keep breathing air the cleanest and working with a Dive shop and Fire department mobile compressor for Scot bottles. the clearer the intake air and larger filter help keep the air fresher when you dive. We had a large PVC intake pipe to pull in the air above and outside the shop away from possible carbon monoxide to keep fresh air at the compressor. I see several boaters with compressors mounted within an engine room not thinking of where the intake air is coming into their scuba compressor.

Thank you so much for your comment. We appreciate your expertise. We have, since this video, added a long hose with a large funnel at the end so we put that out of the top hatch straight into the breeze. This helps cool everything down a bit and provide us the freshest of air!!

Did you end up using a soft start, if so, what are the specs?

No but if we did we would need at least a 30A

That's great being able to overcome start amps of a 1.5kW motor with a 5kW inverter

@dnihilist YES!!! It is amazing. We don’t have any additional load on the inverter when we do this!

You don't want to fill your tanks too fast anyway. The faster you fill them, the hotter they get. Which means that by the time you hit the water with a hot tank, the pressure will drop dramatically as the tank cools down. Alternatively, if you filled it hot, now you need to cool it down and top it off again. Better to fill it as slow as possible. You need to wait an hour between dives anyway, so why not take a slow 40 min, instead of a fast 15 minutes. How slow do you need to fill them - as slow as is needed to keep the tank as close to ambient as possible.

Wow this is helpful. Thank you so much!! We have also been told slower is better for the equipment too. Thanks for your feedback.

I thought the tanks are in a cool tub of water as they are filled.

@maxheadroom1506 You don’t have to fill them in water. If you do, it keeps the temperature down so 3000psi stays. Otherwise when it cools you lose a bit of PSI.

Wow that thing is really capplicated but that's okay the rewards outweigh the headaches of getting it working . Now you will be able to scuba dive more often What a wonderful video I love seeing this beautiful smiles And we'll see you next week
