All I can say about Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, here in the year 2024, is that "I heard about a thousand people in the parade yell "HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!" to everyone, and that's a big percentage of the whole parade to me! And they all looked really happy when they yelled it out. It made me feel happy just sitting here at home in my chair, all alone, yet kind of not really after seeing all that joy. I'll be 'not kinda all alone' at Christmas probably, too, so I'll look for something really happy then also.

Starting when I was four in 1959, the Macy's parade on our black and white RCA set was always an exciting and cozy background noise. I stopped watching the parade a few decades ago when they started including Broadway numbers (Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc.) It just hasn't been the same as what I remembered from childhood.

Portions of the 1946 parade were filmed for "Miracle on 34th Street"

Filmed at 34th street, no doubt. Gotta have that Macy's building in there if you want earthly miracles to happen(ones without needing any prayers involved, that is).

Any Brit who acknowledges the existence of Thanksgiving should get their U.S. citizenship.

Why?

There is so much more you could say about this. Why is this video so short?

This is an on-this-day channel, where an historical event is summarised in 2-2.5 minutes. I'm aware there's much more that could be said, but that's not the purpose of HistoryPod. However, hopefully I say enough to get people who don't know about the event to want to go and find out more.

I’m sure in 1924 they performed CHRISTMAS music, not Holiday music!

That keep you up at night, knowing that some music out there is centered around Hanukah and Ramadan? Not much happening in your life, huh Dave?

As someone who worked most of the the parades from 1978 - 2003, I wish you would have covered the history better i.e., what years the parade was canceled - 1942, 43, 45, with the ballons being donated to the war effort for their rubber. You could have also covered what happened to the origional ballons at the end of the parade. Look it up it's a great story. There is many more historical elements that you failed to come close to covering. Maybe you might want to redo your video and give a better historical overview of what is one of the major American Icons that draws 10's of milions to NYC every year just for the parade, and how many millions of dollars the parade adds to the NYC economy.

Oh for god’s sake, his videos are meant to be only a couple of minutes long, not so extensive as to include every little damn detail. I’m sure there is plenty of other information he could have discussed, but how long did you want this video to be? An hour? Two?
