280Z Front Glass Install - NEW windshield

After installing the rear hatch in a previous episode I get to Re-Install our BRAND NEW front windshield glass in this episode. I go over all the material used for the job and why you should consider replacing your old worn out and pitted Datsun front glass even if its not damaged, cracked etc.

Only thing I wanted to see was installation of the aluminum trim in the seal after installing the glass in the body. Endured minutes of polishing, minutes of applying seal and lockstrip, then roping into the car body, then magically the metal trim is installed and we get to watch you seal the corners.

I use 3M window weld to help seal the corners. They are prone to leaking or trapping water

Great to know that they still fabricate this windshield. Do you know if a windshield company such as safelite would be able to order side windows? Mine are pretty bad and don’t trust the used ones from marketplaces. Thanks. Great build, have been following for a while now.

I would just find a local automotive glass company and see if they can order them for you. Im sure they can!

Was the window weld a recommended best practice? I’ll be reinstalling my front and rear soon on my 260z.

If your the one installing it, I'd use it especially if you've got the precision seals. The vintage rubber ones supposedly fit a bit better in the corners but yea I use it either way.

Any local automotive glass shop should be able to source one

@Jay Noriega I would try an automotive glass shop, if your calling safelite/gerber and the like, they probably won't have them. Most other mom and pop auto glass shops can have it within a day or two.

Yours has a window boot? Mine is glued in.

They will be glued in the corners. Youll have to cut the original one out if your replacing it.

I just started cleaning up the area and it has a rubber looking boot thing between the pinch weld and the glass and the glass was glued to that.
