i have one its a great saw. it can manage (barely) 15 inch maple but with the 4 amp hour battery you will get 3 cuts max. just FYI. you will cut 2-3 times as much soft stuff like pine. it zips through 3-4 inch stuff with ease. dont expect to attach this to a chainsaw mill and cut up 4-8 foot logs even with the 6 amp battery. its not gonna happen.

Great video Gord . That look like a very good saw you have there . I'm impressed . Glad to see that you're getting some recognition from some manufactures and they are sending you things to try out . That would be a perfect saw for small projects in building things and camping trips . Now you only need a spare battery . I can see that the saw will give other manufactures a run for the money . Glad to see that you're using the Big Tool Rack . Of all the guys that got one to use you're the only one that actually uses it . Good for you Gord . Good to see that Guy is helping you out . It sure makes cutting those rounds a lot easier and faster . Take care .

Morning Henry! Thanks so much. I have been very fortunate, for sure. Great subscribers too. :)) Love the BTR - It's like having a trunk and at 300 lbs, makes for good ballast for most of the things I need to do. This saw worked well. First time ever using one. It's takes some getting used to. When you let go of the trigger, it just stops - No sound. No idling gas saw. Kind of funny the first few times. LOL. Hope you enjoyed the weekend - be well and all the best Henry!

Hi Gord, I have an e-saw..it is a Greenworks 80V, 2Ah with 18"bar, and with the battery it weighs 13.7 lbs. I love theis saw, I have a spare battery so when I do go to cut it seems to last forever..I get worn out before the saw! The pro I see with the Oregon vs my Greenworks is the self-sharpening ability...wish mine had that feature! BTW, I really enjoy your postings...fun and informative. I do find it hard to curb my jealousy though, over all the tools you have including that great Kubota...lol!!!

Thanks for the video Gord. I will now have to look into a battery-operated chainsaw. Last year I switched from gas to battery for my push mower. Love the easy starts, less maintenance, and the comfort knowing there are fewer moving parts in an electric motor than in a gas motor. One downside is that you have to avoid the rain. I will keep my loud Stihl for the big stuff.

Hi GP! Great Saw! Looks more than capable of cutting logs of any reasonable size. When I was considering a battery saw, I looked at the class of saw that the Oregon belongs in. High voltage, and high current batteries. I think you are really going to enjoy using it. A word of caution though as safety chaps struggle with electric saws and can often times cut through them, due to the continuous high torque when running. When a gas saw hits safety chaps, it will pull the RPM down and take the saw out of it's high torque curve and will stall the engine. Not so with an electric saw. I really wanted to get one, but there were a few of reasons why I didn't go that route. The first, is that I already have gas saws in this capacity, (Stihl MS261). The second was that I was looking for a lightweight, quick to grab, occasional use saw. And third, and most importantly, I wanted to use the current batteries that are in my DeWalt tools. I hope you are enjoying the nice weather! Take Care, Tom

I wish you would have shown more information about how the chain sharpener mechanism works as that is really the only thing that differentiates this saw from every other battery powered saw out there. I'm curious how it sharpens the cutting teeth since the chain seems to move longitudinally through the sharpening material where every other chain sharpener moves laterally across the chain (albeit it a specific angle). Also curious how it handles keeping the height of the rakers in check.

EOSJOE: I was thinking the same thing. In other words as Buckin' Billy Ray would say, how does it get the gullet?! lol
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Morning Joe! Great question - I asked the same thing. The chain is designed as a "top Sharp" chain, they call it. It sharpens the top of the teeth only and does not need to address the rakes. I believe there is a video on their website that shows it. I didn't want to run it with the guard off (safety for me). Thanks for the great question - have a great weekend Joe!

GP, I still have an corded electric Echo self-sharpening 16" from three year-ago. I had to replace the chain within three months, because how good it sharpens. Needless to say it no-longer sharpens itself, I do with a rat tail file. I do now have a Stihl MSA 200c-b 14", a bit pricey but that goes with the name. I do hope that things have improved in three years. O where we buck up rounds, we use a Black & Decker 21.5 amp 16" chainsaw also with a 25 ft 14 gauge power cord. the best part is it does not drowned out the Bose sound system. I maybe 63, but i still Rock & Roll.

That chainsaw looks pretty cool. I'm interested in how long a chain lasts as far as how much it will cut per sharpen and how many sharpens you'll get out of it. You need to grab or make yourself something like the Timbercroc. The log lift is handy but if you have wood that you can handle by yourself or with someone else assisting then a holder like the Timbercroc will make bucking wood so much easier. I use mine for bucking direct into a wheelbarrow a lot of the time and it's easier picking up 1 log once rather than 4-10 blocks.

Hi Gord! Glad to see you trying out a battery powered chainsaw! Looks like is has good battery life. However, I’m skeptical of the built in sharpener. Grinding down the top of the chain is not how most sharpeners work and seems like ultimately it will reduce the useable life of the blade. My Greenworks 40V chainsaw is still going strong and after two years, the battery life is still excellent. I wasn’t sure a battery-powered saw would meet my needs but I have been very pleased with it. I having cut down and cut up trees as big as 20 inches, which I thought it couldn’t possibly do. Mind you, I don’t think it was designed for that, but it does it when I need it to. BTW, I noticed you had plenty of bugs video bombing your camera shots. ‘Tis the season. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a Makita Nazi myself, but I believe the new lithium battery powered handtools are finally ready for prime time. Gas powered OPE is a hassle to maintain (I've replaced two carburetors this year do to last year's gas going bad). So far, I've determined my electric saw has an effective capacity of 8" logs. It can handle larger, but then you reduce the number of cuts pretty dramatically. Makita doesn't have the self sharpening (yet), but I embrace the break provided by sharpening the chain myself. The Husqvarna won't become homeless, but will be reserved for the really big manly logs and felling.

Good day C! Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I think so too. This lithium Ion tech has changed the game alot. My older battery operated garden tools were terrible so I was a little hesitant to buy a Huskie hedge trimmer last year (battery operated) but has been excellent so far - very happy with the power and the life of the battery before charging. Same thing here - got me just under a face cord of pole wood on a single charge - I think that is pretty good. Thanks again - be well and all the best!

Good morning Edson. Thanks for the comment this morning. I am not sure what size battery you have - I was using the 6.0AH battery but I know the saw comes with different size batteries - the 6.0 AH battery or the smaller 4.0 AH or 2.6 AH battery, which would , I think have less energy. I might suggest that If you think the battery is not working well, that maybe I would take it back to where you purchased it to find out if they can test it to see if something is not working properly. Also, if the chain is not sharp, it will greatly affect the run time too. I know that it is best to keep the chain sharp and when cutting, don't push the saw through the log , allow the chain to cut through under it's own power. I hope some of those things are helpful. Good luck and thanks very much for watching my video. Cheers!

Howdy G.P. FIRST , Great video. Second , Great to see you and Guy back at it. Now , lets talk electric tools ! They are EVERYWHERE these days , carpenters , plumbers , electricians , auto mechanics , just about anywhere . Hell I even gut me an e-lek-tic tooth brush !!! Crazy right. These things are get'n better and better. My Dad ...... some years ago , had a Craftsman chainsaw that had a built in sharpener in it. SO NOW you need to get a high output alternator for the B2601 and a 110 volt outlet for the battery charger. one in the saw and one in the charger......... If it don't take to long to charge. EPA friendly , long as you use honey for chain lube....... LOL Look'n 4 wood 2 C N the next video , see if you can fell a tree and cut it ALL up. Keep up the good work ~ I mean play !! Cheers All !

LOL. Good morning Bubba! They sure are - this Lithium ion batteries are a big jump in tech. Pretty soon, we'll all be driving battery powered trucks, too. LOL. The world is certainly changing. Be well my friend- all the best!

Hey good morning Roy! Thanks! I have only charged it twice - took about 2 hours to charge from empty. Hope you had a nice weekend. Take care!

Someone should do a comparison of self sharpening vs manual system, whether it works or not.

Hey GP.....that saw is toooo quiet for me, lol... but I do like the self sharpening feature, wish the gas saws had this!!
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
LOL. It is super quiet - I probably didn't need my muffs but just habit. Apparently they make a clamp on model for small and medium gas saws. Never used it but they have it on their website. Take care pal!

You look good in orange. Ogegon couldn't have you wearing your usual Stihl garb. Always good to hear Guy is OK. Al Lumnah had a Harbor Freight electric. Ran pretty much like you would expect (POS). Take care

Electric motors will eventually become the norm as batteries increase in storage and life-cycle. I notice they actually sell replacement parts for the chainsaw which is nice. Its not a throw away device if something breaks like most electric products. I also notice three different sized batteries for the device. One question I have which I cant seem to find is do they not recommend operating the electric chainsaw in the rain? or is it weatherproof? Just curious if they have some safety sticker or notice on the product or packaging.
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Good morning Logan. Thanks for the great comments. I believe they told me it is similar to any other saw - can certainly handle a little rain here and there, but it's not waterproof, so to speak. Thanks again - have a great weekend!

Hello Gord, how long until you really put it to the test, and also how expensive is the cost of this saw, and how much are the replacement batteries. This question stems from the use of battery pack tools. Each of my 18 volt tool kits have lasted about 14 months before needing new batteries, and each 18 volt lithium ion battery costs between 45 and one hundred dollars depending on amp hrs. Now just think that I have 12 batteries, @ about 12 months old, and needing replacement the cost of each, is no small chunk of change. So how often do you think that this battery will last, then what about the service life of the saw, I don’t think the cost of it will be low enough for somebody to think of it as disposable either... unless they have really deep pockets!

Good morning Pat. Some great questions. You and Guy are alike. He has a host of those 18V ones too - all lined up in his shop. Good questions. I'll use it over the summer and will do a followup on it to see how it's been. Thanks again Pat. Take care and have a great week!

Oil flow problems with this saw. Always needs to be cleared as the sawdust blocks the oil feed.

Hi Sydnick. Sorry I don't think I did. It was the 6.0 AH battery. it took about 2 + hours to charge it. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

You do know those self sharpening chainsaws have been around for 50 years. You can buy a special bar and chain that converts most saws to one.
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I didn't know actually. I know that Oregon has a bar-mounted one that can be put on a small to medium gas saw. Thanks D!

Good Review GP, but please be careful with the sharpening feature. I have one of Oregon's Powersharp kits that I tried on my Stihl saw, you push the tip of the saw into something to activate the sharpening. I did it while halfway through cutting up a dead tree that fell and the sparks lit the sawdust on fire, throwing up knee high flames before I was able to put the fire out by kicking sand on the fire..
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Morning William. Thanks for the suggestion. Wow. That surprises me. Such little wee sparks and they barely exited past the housing. I just might test that out in a future video. Thanks again - hope you are keeping well. Going to give that stump bucket idea you gave me, a try next week. Fingers crossed. LOL. Thanks again!

I was expecting it to perform pretty good to begin with because of all the videos Martin from DIY My Way has put up with his Greenworks battery saw. I gotta admit the saws are impressive for what they are designed for. Nice video. The low decible level would be great as a side benefit too. Santa....are you watching GP's video's... he provides loads of suggestions. Just sayin'.... (-:

You didn't address the sharpener on chain saw,!
@pwleppa4 жыл бұрын
It could save some energy if the saw had a shorter bar like 12 or 13 inches. 16 inch bar is way too long for this power category.

The self sharpening thingie is not a new idea,, SEARS had something very much like this on some of their Craftsman chain saws,, it did last very long as it was very hard on chains, I guess if they want to sell more chains it is a good idea
@GPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Good morning Skeets. Thanks for the comment. Yes, apparently it was Oregon that made them for Sears. I spoke to the guy there and he said this is a completely new and different design from what they had back then. Designed from scratch. Interesting info - I didn't know that before. Thanks and all the best!
