I've got one, first one for me. Always used gas, but was pleased with the results. My first cut was a pecan tree about 13 to 20". Carried it by the stihl dealer and they took pictures for their wall. Be safe! Beach, NC. Big I see lots of bowls and goblets in that cherry!

Mike, I like Stihl, Echo and Husqvarna. My favorite is Husqvarna. My aunt and uncle bought me the 120i this past Christmas. It is sweet! I have the older 340 and 350 gas powered saws, I love Husqvarna. The 120i has a nice 14 inch, .043 gauge bar and 3/8'' pinch chain, I'm amazed and so happy with it. I love the savE economy button. It slows the chain speed, conserving battery power but doesn't reduced to power of the machine. Two weeks ago, I fell a "hung up" sixty foot balsam fir, limbed and bucked it into twelve inch logs. 10 inches or so at the base. All in one charge with a little juice left in the battery. The third and final light was blinking but it had life left. It made a great gift!

I was skeptical of the battery powered blowers and chain saws until I saw you guys using them, I have both now and love them. I went with the 40v Ryobi blower and 14" chain saw. I love the instant on/off, less noise, and convenience. I don't use the chainsaw for large jobs but it's great for small / quick jobs like limbing / storm cleanup. They also are much less intimidating for the females, especially the chainsaw.

Thats my main complaint with electric saws... they're really only good for limbing and very small stuff. The cost for the saw + batteries puts them at pro level saw pricing, which do the job significantly faster and are built significantly stronger. I also feel like electric saws dull chains much quicker because they are taking much finer chips/more passes required.

I got the 80 volt Kobalt and absolutely love it . It cuts fast and smoothly (Mostly Oak Logs). I asked my brother about the RPM's. I said that I didn't think it goes as fast as a gas powered chain saw. He agreed with that but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Goes through hardwood like butter. I wonder if the slower RPM would give less kickback if you accidentally bury the tip. I had an uncle 30 years ago whose blade kicked back and hit him in the face. It tore his lip up. He was lucky that was all it did. He had a shorter blade which is why I went with the 18" blade. Hearing about what happened to him has always made me nervous about using a chainsaw but I have really enjoyed using this tool. I haven't had it jump up at all. I love the automatic oilier because as a newbie I would always wonder if I'm using the right amount. Mike, would love to hear your thoughts on this when using a gas one as well as adjusting chain tightness. Heck, maybe they all use an auto oilier now - not sure. I thought this machine would be cleaner than a gas powered one with the advantage of being able to throw it in my truck and not having it leak all over. I did find a small puddle of oil under it in my garage even though this is a new product for me. Not sure if it came off the bar or if they just tend to leak. So if you have nice carpets in your truck, you'll need to throw a blanket under it or figure out some kind of case that will keep it from messing up your truck. PS. Love not having to mix gas/oil, keep separate gas containers, have plugs get fouled, etc. I bring an extra battery with me from my weed whacker and throw them both on the charger when I'm done. Very nice.

There is a privately owned place i prefer to camp at these days. They frown on using a chainsaw. But I always find dead/fallen logs that are waiting to be cleaned up or cut to burn. The electric saw is quiet and helps both me and the property owner. A friend let me borrow a cheap soft metal axe which allowed me to cut a few pieces that lasted for 12 hours. But it was a lot of effort and I already had split logs. This is the answer.

I bought a Stihl hedge cutter and an MSA220c both with batteries, and I use the battery chainsaw now more than the petrol one. Having 2 batteries is a must. The most important difference I find is that the saw stops the moment you take your finger off the power, and you can lay it on the ground to move the logs in silence, and simply pick up the saw to make the next cut without trying to re-start it. Yes, I would still use the petrol saw for bigger trunks, but for the stuff most people cut and split for their wood burner, the battery saw is an easier and probably safer option.

I have a few Stihl 36V tools including the MSA200C chainsaw and am impressed with the overall build quality and performance. Since I moved house 5 years ago I've had little use for the chainsaw and I might try to sell it - and the FSA 85 line trimmer for which I have no further use. The tools I use regularly are the HLA 85 and HSA 66 hedgers. These are the bees knees. Exceptional performance, ergonomics and build quality when compared to those sold by brands which specialise in drills, drivers and the like. In fact I enjoy working with these tools so much that I almost wish I had a few high trees so that I could justify buying the 36V pole pruner! However my battery [AP 300] failed after 2 years. Stihl Australia gave me the cold shoulder - claimed they hadn't had any failures blah ... blah ... but as a gesture of good faith would sell me a new AP 300 S battery for half price. Bearing in mind that this offer only came 2 weeks after I had already paid full retail for a replacement AP 300 battery and they flat out refused to give me a credit. TL / DR: Stihl makes an excellent range of high quality, excellent performing 36 volt tools and they sell them as a premium product for a premium price. However if you're unlucky and have a failure out of warranty they'll tell you to hit the road instead of investing in brand loyalty.

John Procidano In your best case review it looked great. What happens while in the woods and if you had to fell a full grown Rock Maple with a base of 30 inches with a 18 inch bar. Then, limb up, drag the log out of the woods to have to cut to chunks on the ground. Would you be carrying a few extra batteries or rely on a gas chainsaw. This description had been done with a Stihl 300 with an 18 inch bar. For the most part the limbs/branches were the size of a large pizza.

I bought one of these saws in the spring of 2020, not because of your video, but because I saw your wife using one in one of her videos. So I bought one for my wife. I like it for all the same reasons you say; which is basically convenience. I own a couple larger gas Huskys, but this saw is great for limbing or just taking a break from the gas saws on smaller logs. With the battery and charger, they are a little pricy though. Oh and by the way, my wife still doesn't use it much. But hey, she's 64 and I'm going on 70!

I keep my gas chainsaw in the back of my Chevy Trailblazer all the time as well as a heavy chain. I live way out in the country, up in the mountains, with a lot of forests around. You can come across a fallen tree at any time. I once found a couple of trees that fell across the road down from my house that were about 15 inches across. I cut the small branches off and tossed the small branches off the side of the road and then hooked my chain onto them and drug them 1/4 mile up the road to my place and into my driveway. Took 2 trips to get all the trees. I then finished cutting them in the driveway.

Nice presentation. I have sthil batteries with a hedge trimmer, whipped snipped and a 230mm 9 inch wet saw. I have an earlier 36 volt 4 amp hour that's about 144 watt hour. Also later bought the same as your battery the 7.2 amp hour 260 watt hour battery. I looked at this chainsaw at the sthil shop and it is impressive. You can also carry a battery back pack with different amp hour that will run all day. So there is a lead that plugs into a battery adapter. Say for instance you are cutting lumber or hanging from a tree. This is what the saw was designed for. The larger batteries take about 4 hours to charge. The battery world is catering for mining industry. Also laws regarding emmisions. So more of this will come out. I have a tree that died and needs cutting down. I did own a kabolt 80 volt 2 amp hour chain saw. I gave it to a friend because it leaked too much. Well even the sthil will leak oil unless you empty the oil reservuar. Did I spell that right? Since the sthil is smaller than the kabolt and has easier functions than the kabolt. I think the chain adjustment and actually changing blades for a bigger chain is relatively easy. Great video. Thankyou for uploading.

Good morning from MidMo. Overcast, still, and 63F after rain last night. Only real noise is dove hunters 4-5 miles away in the Missouri River bottoms. Still packing, and won’t be done soon. Lamps, clocks, and some bedding yesterday, maybe 6-8 boxes worth. The first two took a lot longer to pack! I am always surprised by the chatter with an electric saw. I assume a gas saw has the same chatter as that but the engine sound covers it up. You cut a fair amount of wood with that one charge, and maybe this is a year old? The real test will be how much can be cut later in the battery’s life. My first battery kit was a 19.2V Craftsman multi kit (drill, circle, recip, jig, and light, to which I added light nail gun) with 2 batteries and charger. I think I’ve had both batteries rebuilt at Batteries+, and twice for one at least. The rebuilds on these are $45-50. I shudder to think what it would be for a chain saw battery that cost $230 new. Might have to go back to Stihl with all the electronics in those. Anyway, interesting test of battery life, and it definitely demonstrated more utility than one (like me for instance) would have thought. I guess Hunter was looking forward to the next day’s BK run! We’ll see that tomorrow, hopefully. Tell him we said Hi!

But after my first weekend using a 16" 60V DeWalt (A step down from this nice Stihl since I already had the DeWalt batteries and charger) for lighter work I can also say that 80% of my chainsaw days will be with the little cordless saw. It's a break not having to fire up or wrestle with the lumberjack saw just to clear brush. Even better is that I have always despised fussing with carburetors.

I have a Stihl MSA 160C and it’s been a revelation to me. I do about 20-30 cu m of firewood a year, at least half with the battery saw. It’s light, quiet and I can use it inside a barn - no fumes. I bought 2 AP200 batteries, so I can charge one while using the other, if I’m near the house. And pure serendipity: one ‘fill’ of the battery, on logs thin or thick-ish, fills my wee (0.6 cu m) trailer behind the quad. I would definitely recommend the Stihl cordless electric tool range.

Going off of MSRP pricing for the MSA 220 saw, the AP 300 battery and the charger purchased as a kit, you've got a $729.00 chainsaw for part time use. It definitely wouldn't be something I'd leave in a side by side. If you were heavily invested in Stihl, (string trimmer, hedge trimmer, blower) it would make sense to purchase, but not Johnny homeowner.

Well said. I have a Poulin, starts on one or two pulls. Cost me a six pack of beer and a carb kit. Keep a container of pre-mixed fuel on hand, empty the oil and fuel each time. Runs like a champ, probably 25 yrs old now. Great clean up saw, obviously not a Stihl, but never meant to be one.

I bought one of these and its excellent. Buy a second battery and you can coppice all day. Still the pros will roll their eyes at the thought of anything other than petrol....

The issue here is the price. The battery alone is $300.00 The AP platform is not homeowner dedicated. It’s for the pro who can write of the tool. I’m a huge Stihl fan but spending $700.00 on a saw that will last 30 min at most… it’s not like a dewalt where you have 7 batteries. Ryobi, Makita and Cat make saws that work just as well for the fraction… plus the batteries are easier to collect on your wallet. I’d love this saw and 5 batteries, $3500

Great video. Been thinking about a battery saw for limbing and brush clean up. I agree would be perfect for a quick session after work instead of hauling out the gas saw. Stay safe and be well!

A good battery powered device will prevent the battery from being run down to zero charge. Lithium Ion batteries do not like being run to zero, it shortens the life of the battery. I guess Stihl has good battery management technology built into the battery/saw. Good video - I get about twenty rounds from one 2AHR battery on my electric chain saw, however, I mainly use it for limbing and what not - cheers

Great video mike. My in-laws don't have a wood stove anymore so they don't need a big saw anymore. But I just can get my father in law to switch to something like this. He's got an 044 stihl chainsaw and it's to him taking away his man card. Keep up the great videos.

Looks better than the Milwaukee we demoed. Our company did extensive testing for safety. Found Milwaukee blew through pair chaps like butter. Theses saws are clutch less. They require heavier chaps.

That saws pretty impressive. I have a good battery saw and i love the convenience. Its not a replacement for gas by any means. Compared to my Stihl 391 the battery saw is like a toy. Ive gotten to finish up some jobs late in the evening with that battery saw and not piss off the entire neighborhood.

I have bought a MSA200 and it splits logs faster than my MS250CBE saw! But since the bar length is 13" it had problems felling and chopping up a 24" birch tree... but i think i will sell my gasoline saw.. i just cut wood for my fireplace stove and the electric one is more than enough really..i get tired before the battery runs out... haha...

Idk a good stihl cost $180. A good dewalt electric cost like $344. Yeah the dewault cuts the same thing like 2 second faster. Bus what’s two seconds when you literally spent half the price? And it will last for the rest of your life if you know how to work on it.

@@KarstRats True , but for a lot of average home users just logging , most people probably won't know how to maintain them too well , saves the hassle on buying fuel too , 180 bucks for a stihl is pretty cheap " A good stihl " will cost you triple that

@@causetheplumstasteyum7848 buying fuel and fueling up is faster than waiting on a charge. Depends on where you located which is a hassle. If your solar dependent and wayyyyy off the grid yeah go for electric. For obvious reasons. But gasoline if you're like doing it for a career.

Nice video. The saw certainly has its uses but the cut speed and run time is slow and low. Not sure if the battery in it was 180 or 240 but that makes it expensive to keep another one or five on hand. But for homeowner use this is an excellent option when their gas would probably go bad before they used up the whole can. Not a bad product, just not for everyone and certainly doesn't replace a quality 2cycle saw for serious applications.

Stihl makes good stuff but they're very proud of the battery powered chainsaws. Went to a local dealer to price a 16 or 18 inch saw and all he had at the time was the 12 inch bar saw. Almost fell over when he priced me the saw with the 12 bar, battery and charger $750. I'm going to keep looking.
