My head canon is that the Starfleet’s Dauntless Class got the technological upgrades from the future, and could use them in the Delta Quadrant, but the Temporal Prime Directive somehow limited their use until the technologies would have been standard.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios8 күн бұрын
Yeah, it didn't... That's also not head canon... Head Canon is when you create (or take elements of Beta canon) to explain away plot holes or fill in the gaps... So that's just your imagination, which is fine, but it doesn't really make any sense at all!

@@karridian Harry Kim's promotions are how you track the lifespan of the universe. He will be getting his first promotion sometime around the start of the Degenerate Era and promotion to Captain right before the universe ends. Man, the Dauntless from VOYAGER just looks so sleek and fast. I get that the Dauntless from PRODIGY is a prototype but boy is it clunky. 04:33 gotta have that hump... I usually prefer underslung nacelles but the Prodigy Dauntless may have looked better if the Nacelles were higher up? I dont know, it looks like the engineering hull is just kinda hanging off the saucer? No shade being thrown at you sir - your models are accurate and beautiful as ever
@deksroning1256 күн бұрын
I think the distinction is that Arturis species were more advanced than the Federation (but the latter wasn't probably too far behind on the tech curve - they just hard worse success with faster than Warp tech), so the fake Dauntless was able to get away with being sleeker, whereas VOY crew managed to improvise a better QS drive. If you recall the V1 of QS drive from Hope and Fear was limited to 300 Ly's per hour. In Timeless episode (about 4 months after Hope and Fear), VOY crew created a v2 of QS drive which had a Quantum Matrix, Borg technology and used Benamite Crystals (there was no indication the Arturis version used these). Also, in Timeless, Voyager cut through 10,000 Ly's in 1 minute (when future Harry Kim sent the phase corrections), meaning that version of the QS drive was 2,000 times FASTER than Arturis version. It basically showcases that the UFP/SF has amassed a tremendeous amount of knowledge and is able to better apply it than most other species when it comes to more experimental technology to get much better results. The main issue with QS v2 was the phase variance (whereas the V1 pummelled the ship with Quantum stresses which meant the ship couldn't hold out in Slipstream for more than 1 hour). Anyway... my point being is that SF's starship designs are fundamentally different (adaptive/modular yes, but still different). So it stands to reason that SF's own version of the Dauntless will look different than Arturis Dauntless. A bit bulkier, etc.

I find the Dauntless (original and official) to be weirdly off balance. I think it'd look better with the 2ndary hull flipped over and connected to the gap at the rear of the saucer (dart) section (partially filling it in), and the nacelles placed higher, further back and spaced further apart.
@brianhunter29248 күн бұрын
I did like that explanation of Janeway's rapid promotion to 2 (or 3, can't rightly recall) pip admiral: to keep her out of trouble. Problem is that the tactic didn't work with Kirk. Why should it have worked any better with her? Admirals cause more trouble in Starfleet than any gaggle of cadets.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios8 күн бұрын
Well first, Kirk wasnt promoted to keep him out of trouble... I suggest reading Gene Roddenberry's Novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture which is clear that he was promoted for the good of Starfleet... And Second, it was either promote Janeway into a position where she'd be overseeing mundane projects, or court martial her for countless crimes she committed, which would have been a PR nightmare... So the right approach and decision was made!

@ in my buddy’s 25th Century Star Trek role playing campaign, our crew was given the task to see if we could go rescue the original fake Dauntless & bring Her to the Alpha Quadrant. We were going to try to make a peace pact with Arturis, to try to help him & his people. He originally didn’t want to have anything to do with us but Borgify us. We fought him. We managed to bring a medicine that rescued him & his people from the Borg, & we offered to take them with us back home. Arturis saw us trying to help him, & offered to bring his Dauntless with us back home, stopping along the way to pick up a few hundred Vidians, that the Think Tank had helped, & who were now healthy. We also offered Neelix & his people a home with us, which they accepted. Arturis, his people, the Vidians, & Neelix began teaching Starfleet about their histories, cultures, & ways. As well as helping to develop, share, & design new technologies that they shared with the Federation

It makes me wonder if the slipstream technology used by the xindi came from scans done by the sphere builders of Starfleet slipstream drives and given to the xindi in the 22nd century. That's a temporal paradox actually, that Starfleet knew about this tech but never knew that it came from themselves in the future.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios8 күн бұрын
Acually, the Xindi didn't have Slipstream Tech, they actually were able to travel through subspace portal system...
@DeathBYDesign6668 күн бұрын
@TriAngulumAudioStudios You mean like transwarp? Doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't used as a inspiration for that technology. When I think portal, I think more instantaneous travel, like wormholes or fold space. I always got the impression that it was more slipstream based because it has a similar speed and methodology in its function. It could also be transwarp based, but the actual difference is negligible. Let's just say faster than warp, but similar to both. It always seemed to me slipstream was the closest analog to whatever they used.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios8 күн бұрын
No, it isnt transwarp based either, its portal based, like a wormhole... Warp was just the same as Starfleets! It is not similar to Slipstream OR Transwarp and that is canon! Also your thoughts on what Portal Travel means are themselves meaningless as they are incorrect... Just because SciFi shows like portal travel to be instantaneous, doesn't mean that actual science says that!
