I've never understood the hate that Divine has always gotten. It's a sick ass album from beginning to end. That album is part of the soundtrack of my youth. Bostaph didn't skip a beat when he took over the sticks man. Dude killed it!

I agree. Divine is the best Slayer album for me. Because of wide variety of the songs and of Bostaph's drumming. He took Lombardo's style to a higher level, and this is not a subjective thought but a fact.

That's more attributable to a mob mentality being angry because Dave was no longer in it, than a loss of musical craftsmanship. This album is the quite the opposite actually and a good example of how important a drummer is as an influence to the rest of the member's compositional efforts. Slayer knocked this one out into planetary orbit.

This was Slayer's last great album IMO. It kinda marked the end of the classic era. Dave just formed Grip Inc. at the time and was doing great things with them. Divine was definitely Paul's greatest work. He was never on Dave's level but he absolutely did a brilliant job here. Such a fun album to play on drums.

I'd argue Dave was more musical as a drummer. Better groove and all that. But as a pure technical combined with speed for that era. Paul was better.

Paul is a far more technically accomplished drummer than Dave and a better metal drum composer. Lombardo will always have respect from me for upping the ante with his parts on ‘RIB’, but Bostaph’s power, flair, (his fills are much more interesting) technical proficiency and especially his metronomic meter at speed (not least of all his double bass work) all have Dave covered by days. Edit : Paul’s a level above.

This brings back memories. In 1995 I was in Egypt for 3 months during my university years. And I remember finding this music store in Cairo that had this album on tape. New Slayer album out without me knowing? Bought and I pretty much wore it out in my stay in that beautiful country. Happy memories!
