So true that is easy to recognize the evil of those who are clearly deceived by power or idolatry but much more difficult to see deception from those who claim to be brothers(churchian). We must stay true to what the Lord himself instructs until we are released by him and not take the word of those claiming to speak for him.

I have pondered over this passage for quite some time. I certainly believe that the application here is, when we are doing great things for God, it is clear that God is working through us be careful, who we listen to, the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, and when he does, he is the accuser of the brethren. When I know what God has told me to do be bold and keep doing it, don’t let anybody throw me off track. when God has clearly shown me what to do, my confidence is in his sure word . Be discerning when someone comes with seeming good intentions, stick with what I know God has told me to do.

David, Good observation. I agree with you 100% as I have experienced this. Follow the instructions God gives you completely. I would go as far as to say that it sometimes tests your faith and trust in what God has spoken to you.

It seems as if the older prophet, who was indeed a true prophet, and his sons, were stuck or confined to wherever they lived and couldn’t leave for whatever reason. They were surrounded by many false prophets and priests during that time, until another true man of God ( the you her prophet) came along and spoke the Word of the LORD, and God vindicated it ( proved it was from the LORD) by bringing it to pass. When the older prophet heard of this, and found out the younger man of God left, he desired for him to stay, despite being told that the LORD was against him doing that. He wanted to be in the company of another TRUE man of God, so he, with selfish ambition, lied. The younger prophet did not consult the LORD, and forsook what the LORD had actually spoken, perhaps recognizing or previously knowing somehow, that the older prophet was a true man of God. The BIG problem is gifts and callings are without repentance. No doubt, the older man was indeed a prophet, however, we are not supposed to follow gifts. We’re supposed to have discernment, which only comes by knowing the word of the LORD and prayer ( being in constant fellowship with Him), to know if something is His will or not. The younger prophet followed the gift, not the giver. Or maybe he was hungry and once he realized it was a man of God, he took him up on the offer, forsaking the LORD’S word. In Galatians 1:8, Paul said, “ But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” We have to stick with the WORD of the LORD, not a MAN of GIFT of the LORD! I appreciate this video and the PDF!

This is such a good and concise study, it's specially helpful as it is in parts and not one huge thing, it is a lot easier to assimilate the Bible this way. That passage about the Young Prophet and the Old one, the only think I can think of is that once the Old Prophet realised his mistake in tricking the Younger one, he was overcome with guilt and remorse specially as God said that the Younger prophet would not be buried with his own family, so the Older one placed the Younger ones body in his family tomb, I might be wrong but that's the only explanation I have.

Thank you, this really helped me. I read this and was wondering why the old prophet would do that as well.

Great explanation again brother. My question is if the older prophet was instructed to test the younger one with being obedient to God’s commandment. Since he failed, the older prophet still mourns in his loss. Similar to how Jesus mourns for the separation of man and God on the cross. Any thoughts?

Good morning Luke I have been tuned into your studies every day now for about 6 months. Thank you! Some of the studies do not have a video component - will they be added in the future. Also will you be adding 2 Kings sometime soon. In your Kings 1 section there are only 4 chapters shown on the opening page, however I was able to scroll to the bottom of 4 and advanve to 5 and so on to chapter 15 but no further. Can this be rectified? Thank you again CHEERS Rusco Dunstan Queensland Australia

Quite possibly the demise of the Prophet was also to send a message to the king about disobedience to Gods commands.

It seems like the older profit was a stalker or a fan of the younger profit and really admired what had happened between him and Jeroboam. He wanted to get to know this man, eat with this man, befriend this man at any cost even if it meant, he was going to cause this man to disobey God he felt bad for this and, in the end it showed when he mourn the prophet and wanted to eventually be buried with the profit. That’s what I see.

The younger prophet trusted the older prophet because he was older😢 what a mistake. Lesson is that when God has spoken one must listen.

I just had a thought… why did the lion just stay with the man and not eat him up? Isn’t a lion sometimes referenced the same attributes? (If that’s the word) Like God? 🦁 maybe the old prophet confirmed through watching the lion that he felt yeah? Responsible? Or guilty? For the death of this young prophet. I mean I’m still shocked that the lion just stayed there with the body.
@dyeht
@dyeht 7 ай бұрын
That was one of my questions too. I think this just proved that it is God who made this happen, that the lion not eating his body means he still have a body that can be buried (v22) and what the man of God was saying is true (v32) The man of God is young and the old prophet is doubtful of the young man's prophecy against Jeroboam and the altar in Bethel and all the shrines on the high places if it will really come true. This motivated the old prophet to do what he has done to the man of God.

Was it a test of the younger prophet? The younger prophet believed a man over God. He didn't even question it. He didn't pray over it or ask the older prophet questions. And then, the older prophet realized he was the cause of the younger prophet's death. That's a heavy burdern. I want to know the symbolism of the Lion not eating the body, but standing guard over it. And there wasn't a battle between the Lion and the Donkey? There's definitely more to this example than we know.

@BookZealots I enjoyed your pov the most and I feel in the comment section, it's most accurate. Here are some of my thoughts: I was thinking because the young prophet came from Judah. The Lion represented the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Because of the young prophet's idolatry to trust a man over God, he couldn't go back to Judah. "Judah" (Lion) had to kill him, but not dishonor him by ravishing his body. I definitely think it was a test. The young prophet went to Bethel, a city full of idols and fell into idolatry. Maybe God was pruning out all of the prophets in Judah to find one that he could trust. That wouldn't worship idols-the young prophet, as powerful as his gift might have been, didn't pass the test. Just thinking out loud here, if you have an answer, I'd love to hear it: What I don't understand is the donkey. Donkey's represent service, peace..obviously the donkey carried the body, but what else did this donkey symbolize? A donkey and a lion together and the lion doesn't eat the donkey or the body...very interesting.

@@kayla_jf Thank you for the kind words. I love this channel's viewers where we're able to talk over verses and it isn't combative like so many other channels. I love your thoughts and I'll need to get back into 1 Kings. I'm currently in Isaiah and 1 Corinthians. I'll try and get to it this weekend. I like how you mention God was pruning. He's polishing us up and molding us all the time. But like the true vine parable in the new testatment where branches are cut off, most Christians ignore this and don't understand what it means. I also like that you mention the tribe of Judah. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I absolutely love it. (writing myself a note now)....There's a lot to unpack. I was also planning on studying Eve taking the fruit and the Hebrew words for "fruit", "eat", and "take" because I think there's a deeper message than eating a fruit and rebellion. I might be reading too much into it, but it started with the misinformation of people saying the fruit was an apple, when we're not told what the fruit it. I found out the translation came from Latin, but that latin word can also mean evil. So that is sending me down a rabbit hole. I appreciate you sharing with me. ~Erion (like air-ee-on/awn)

@@kayla_jf hello, I just finished studying 1 Kings 13 and wow! This is what I've found and what I've surmised will be at the end. Scripture says the man of God came out of Judah, but not that he was from the tribe of Judah. I tried to see if there was some indication of the lion that mauled the man of God was linked in anyway to the tribe of Judah. (4)Jeroboam's hand was outstretched and withered and he couldn't move. He became as useless as his idols. (12)I think the sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah. The "seen" may mean vision, not a physical seen/watched. I wonder if that was a demonic vision. (14)many men of God are found in scripture to be sitting under a terebinth/oak tree. Possibly meaning strong man of God. (18)The man of God was deceived by the false prophet, and didn't ask God for guidance or test the spirit. (1 John 4:1) and what "angel" spoke to the false prophet? (20)the word cried in this verse is the same as when Moses was crying out to the Lord. The false prophet is giving an actual message from the LORD to the man of God telling him he rebelled/disobeyed/defied the commandment which the LORD they God commanded thee, (24) the lion slews the man of God. (26)then the false prophet has the audacity to say, oh yeah, it's the man of God who disobeyed the word of the LORD. As if he didn't have any part in the deception? but also said the LORD hath "delivered" him unto the lion...Does the lion represent satan? (33-34)Jeroboam continues in his wickedness and makes anyone who wants to become a priest/false prophets? I couldn't help but think of 1 Peter 5:8, but also in Luke when Jesus tells Peter that Satan wants the sift him like wheat. If the LORD would have the man of God who rebelled against his commandment, killed, how much more would he punish the wicked? I'm not sure about the donkey. Remain humble and obedient to God?

I believe the old prophet lied to do anything to get the young prophet in his house. God had to call a prophet from another nation to prophesy. He probably felt jealous because he had fallen from grace because of his idol worship or his approval of idol worship. Sometimes prophets who aren't in the right heart posture when God has to call someone else to do a job they used to do.

The older prophet wanted to confirm if the younger prophet really heard from God and is a true prophet and also whether what he said will come to pass. However, what is really sad is why did God not punish this Old prophet? He deceived the younger prophet. He is so evil! And then he has the audacity to mourn after causing his death

I think the man was just trying to prank him and not actually kill him. Little did he know he did indeed kill him and feel doom come upon himself as well :( burying the body in his own tomb was his way of being blessed and avoiding the doom of going the wrong direction (Hell) in the afterlife.
