For all of the arm chair mechanics out there saying I'm the worst person in the world for not draining the cooler. I drained the cooler the next time it came in and like an 1/8 of a quart came out. You aren't getting every drop of oil out with a change. Trust me getting 95% and filter out is pretty darn good.

@@emvx2dumps51 yeah I've done that since I commented. Some of the quick oil change places don't have the right type of oil so I'll buy the oil and filter and just pay them to change it whenever I don't have the time. It'll only save about 20 bucks but that can go towards gas LOL

Been changing my own oil for many years. It's just way too expensive to get it done at a shop these days. My old 392 Challenger it was costing well over $100. I could do it for half that and an hour of my time. Just recently bought a 2023 Hellcat Charger and actually can't wait until I get to do my first oil change on her. Bought it with 7600 miles. As soon as I hit around 11k I'll be changing it. I know they say to do it less often but I've always changed the oil in my cars between 3k and 4k miles and they all always last a really long time.

The manual says use 0w-40 Pennzoil or an equivalent. If you have any factory powertrain warranty remaining, best to at least use a 0w-40 oil, Pennzoil or not, to keep any future warranty claims from becoming unnecessarily complicated. Better to use what Dodge recommends specifically because this is a race car and I don’t think owner is driving it normal with that beauty engine in it.
@mikeferryman99203 жыл бұрын
I doubt the dealer drains the cooler. I think you risk damaging the cooler every time you screw with it. I recommend buying the filter from the dealer and sticking with recommended oil brand.

With no torque wrench I try to simulate how ever many foot pounds are needed and put that much pressure one foot from the pivot point on the ratchet so something that needs 20 foot pounds with a 12 inch ratchet I'd put 20 pounds of pressure at the end of the ratchet or 40 pounds at the end of a 6 inch ratchet or 10 pounds of a 24 inch ratchet. That should keep you from stripping threads unless you are really bad at estimating weight. I wouldn't use that system if I was rebuilding engines but for drain plugs and accessories I don't mind the risk. But usually I just tighten until I think it's tight enough.

As far as not understanding on why/how to add oil to a side mount filter. If you add oil to the filter and let it sit for awhile. It disappeared as it is absorbed into the element and won't run out.
