We've been finding the game deeply immersive. Rather than imposing a theme or narrative on the player, it encourages the imagination to co-create its own story. The longer a hero survives, the richer the story grows.

The more creative I get with “Inventive Usage”, the more fun I have with this game. This is the fun for me. I started giving my characters “skills” which all interact with the room or event descriptions, including skill checks, increasing those stats. I also ended up adding game mechanics to the Journalling portion of the character sheet. Toby has made public a 3rd party license, and I want to put together a supplement for my solo roleplay rules, but I’ve never done that before. One day. 😅 This has replaced D100 Dungeon for me. I could never get into that game (after trying multiple times, and buying 5 of the books).

That’s a great way to interact with this game. It is really where the fun can live… & much as I have loved d100 Dungeon over the years I can see why it is hard to get into. What has always been challenging to me about that game is the verrryyy slow way characters advance and level up. 2d6 has some great charts and atmosphere.

Interesting your comment re: unnamed generic hero. When I play while in the dungeon I really feel like a pure Roguelike, and my feeling about the character grows the more they survive the fights and damned locks, and the longer I can keep them healthy. I've found myself engaging more with my character at that aspect - rooting for them to keep going, get further than the last one. I think I may use a generator to roll up a background after level 1 or 2, or maybe when the rep is determined. Excited for the legacy/overland aspects for building up your background in 2D6 Realms, and the feature encounters stuff Toby is cooking up! Great vid, love to see your thinking about buying before diving back in. IMO that's where the game really gets you thinking later 'just one more room before I leave, need more loot for town!'.

Good video, thanks. I love this game. I visited two lairs on my way up to level 10. I made a few gold mistakes, which may have increased my experience by letting me buy great armour earlier than I should have. I also made my dungeon sizes a little larger so that my character level was appropriate for the dungeon level. In future games when I replay it, I may intentionally make the money mistake. I liked the feeling of being a little OP. Regarding your feeling of having no affinity with a character you're playing, with the success of the 2D6 Realms campaign comes an update to 2D6 Dungeons. There will be more character options. The newest option is to play as a "Terian", which is some kind of water-being. Looking forward to watching the depth of the game grow with each of the releases planned.

Many thanks for another useful video. I've just picked this up and will try my first run tomorrow so perfect timing 😁I agree the one-type-of-weapon system seems limiting but can rationalise it as being a weapon type that you're familiar with and have trained on. I'm pretty sure my character would be able to figure out which way round to point a spear if he found one though 😁Looking forward to give it a go, there seems to be a lot to like.

I suspect I will make up some house rules on this point if I get beyond Level 2... it just stretches the imagination too much to think a lone adventurer would stick only to one thing.

@@GeekGamers01Good idea. Maybe a 'shift' penalty on weapons that are unfamiliar or something like that. Am about to do my first run so not sure if there are magic weapons down there but if you find a powerful one then you might be tempted to take a small penalty in order to use it. After all most dungeon crawl weapons are just basically 'hit them with the pointy end' 😁
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
@@Caratacus1Yes a shift penalty is a good idea. Also if you had the character switch weapons in order to deal with an interrupt from the enemy, you could also have them miss a round in combat. Could also limit the maneuver for the “off” weapon to a level 1 and the one doing the least damage reflecting a lack of familiarity with the weapon.

I totally agree with your thought about the game. The lack of a storyline is annoying to me to the point that, after the first try, I haven't picked up the game again
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
Totally get that. As I mentioned, this is my second go round with the game so hopefully I will last a little longer.

Magical items (except potions and scrolls) can not be bought. So considering to buy rings and amulets is not an option. It is clearly written in the rules.

I tend to play in fits and starts. Maybe, as you say, the subdued nature of the delve’s narrative in the game is why playing in 1 hour increments works for me so far. I paused at retreating to town in the middle of level 1. So I’m glad to have your thoughts on the process of replenishing oneself in town. 🏚️🏨🍗🍖🍖🍷🍺

Hopefully you will be reinvigorated by the shopping aspect. I do agree, though, it is a game to play and put down and then pick up again as opposed to hours and hours of play.
