I've always ignored Headless Hydra Kickstarters in the past, but this looks interesting. Very surprised that such an intricate (potentially fiddly) system doesn't cover weather and the natural environment, but it does look like a good starting point. Might be a bit pricey for the utility. Maybe they'll do a DTRPG bundle or a Humble Bundle - lol

Agree, as I mentioned... it is odd about the weather. The natural environment is taken care of by just saying essentially " you can decide where you want this town to be and what resources it has nearby." That said, at this level of detail including some random tables to enable the system to give you those options would have been in keeping with what they are doing.

So we have artefact for magic items, how to host a dungeon, delve and ex umbra for well dungeons and finally ex novo and now oragnic towns (maybe penciltown as well) for towns and such. At this rate GM prep is gonna be as genuinely fun (albeit long) as their players playing, buuut i can see the risk of gms burning out if they arent careful. I do wish to see more fun ways of gms worldbuilding, maybe using a skirmish game to determine which type of foes are dominant in the region the players are exploring as well as an encounter to see the aftermath of the fighting.

This seems like an excellent way for a GM, solo or otherwise, to do their “prep as play.” Also, it would be neat for the players to “level up” a town for a West Marches-style game. They are adding additional resources etc. Maybe in a limited way, as the town is supposed to be less important and exciting than the wilderness.

This looks like a great way to create an ancient rune by creating a city/town ,taking away a major resource then having it decline over time .

This seems like a very interesting system. But it does seem to be a bit complex if you're just using it to keep track of a settlement "in the background" for a TTRPG? It seems more like a game in and of itself (and a great one at that) that you run in conjunction with your regular TTRPG.

Using the random tables without all the supporting mechanics wouldn't be that onerous... just a die roll, really. You could simply assign random levels to each building if you wanted (or not). Agree that managing all that is offered here in terms of settlement points, settlement actions, etc. really is a game unto itself

Printing and binding a short run of a 4-color book is really costly…I don’t know if the designer will put this on drivethru but there is a contact form/email on the publisher’s website

I’ve done a vid on Penciltown… it’s quite a different being as you are managing resources in a tightly mechanical way and taking actions as opposed to responding to prompts. Penciltown is a game; this is a supplement with some mechanics. I’m not familiar with Towinator.

That sounds interesting. Is there a connection between the city built in this supplement and the solo adventure out of the city? For example, if I'm doing an hexcrawl, do the adventures contribute to the progress of the city by bringing gold, loot or something else ? Or does the progression of the city happen autonomously? I don't have the book, but I think it's really separated and it's too bad if your PJ, ruler of the town, doesn't make a difference between a lvl1 normal adventurer and a lvl20 half god.

Yes, you'd need some way of keeping track of everything for each town, either duplicating the character sheets (also available online--see the site) or creating your own tracking method.

Wish the price to buy was $10 to $20 less. Can't quite justify the price for the print book. The pdf would probably be too hard print.
