People knock purchasing fractional gold, but I’ve been buying 1/10th AGEs’s every month for the last 3 1/2 years. I do that because that’s what I can afford. I say buy what’s in your budget. Something is better then nothing. I have a wife and 3 kids with all the bills normal people have. I do shop around, I look for the best prices, but like clockwork I buy. With that said, my financial life has changed, and I will be moving up the 1/2 oz very soon.

Stephen-great post! There’s always someone out there who feels compelled to criticize those of us who traffic in fractional gold. I buy fractional as well: 1/0 oz., 1/4 oz., and my favorite-1/2 oz. I’m a salaried guy with a.wife who also works f.t., five kids, two dogs, and a house in a suburban area with very high taxes, along with my other monthly expenses to which I allocate my meager disposable income. Buying the fractional keeps me in the game on a regular basis whereas with the 1 oz. option, I’d be buying less often and thus, annoying 2 is 1 less frequently with my contrarian comments on his videos. 😆😂 Keep stacking! 👍

Our dollar is worth less and less every hour; at this rate, you'll still gain doing 1/10 oz coins in the long run when you look back at what you paid vs how much purchasing power dollar has lost. You really can't lose with gold in any amount IMHO; it's better to stack what you can afford regularly, even if you're "losing" via premium because that's better than having zero gold in a decade!

Love your channel. I’ve been stacking since March 2020. It’s been an amazing journey. Prior to stacking metals I couldn’t save any money. As fast as I earned it, it would disappear into frivolous purchases. That changed when I started buying silver. When I received my first shipment I was hooked. It felt like real money and after spending a good chunk of my paycheques on silver I’d have nothing much left over to buy much of anything else. After 2 months I was blown away when I had a few thousand saved up in silver. I then discovered your channel and switched my focus to an even amount of silver AND gold. Gold felt even more like real money and I appreciate how over the years gold has kept up with a steady upwards trend (more or less) and silver has only had a few spikes but remained relatively flat. Flash forward to now, I can’t believe when I look at my stack how much I’ve been able to achieve stacking (somewhere around 8 ounces in gold alone). My wife is even on board and she has her own mini stack of gold she’s building. I hold somewhere around the 50% gold, 25% silver, and 25% cash strategy. Perhaps I’m too heavy on gold and silver, but you know what, it’s better than having no savings at all, which is the path I was on prior to precious metals. The plan is to eventually liquidate some of the stack to buy property and develop it. As for your comments about fractional, I disagree. I have sold some gold to fund larger purchases and have always recouped my premiums. Now I should mention that I’ve only sold privately in Facebook groups or Craigslist, not to shops, but I’ve never lost out on premiums at all. The same actually goes for silver too. I typically just list mine 1.5-2% below the LCS’s price and they fly in no time. I do echo your sentiments about old European coins and 14kt coins. I barely get spot price for them and it takes much longer to sell. For that reason I don’t think I’ll ever stack them again. Lessons learned. Anyways, thanks for the great channel and sharing your experiences and advice. Will, from BC, Canada. PS. F Trudeau and Let’s go Brandon ;)

Thanks William! I think somewhere in there I mentioned that you have to either give up the premium or work harder to get it. I probably didn't make it clear. A local dealer isn't going to give you nearly as much back as a private buyer would. In my experience, it's pretty easy to find a private buyer for a $1k - $2k sale. A $10k+ sale is going to be something you'd only want to go into with someone you trust, and that's where dealers typically come in, and they just don't give much premium back for fractional. I'm with you on one-off sales, though. I sold silver Eagles to an in-person private buyer and made much more than the premium I paid. It was the day of the second silver squeeze, so it was one of the easiest sales I've ever made. Congrats on your metals strategy. Looks like it's paying off. Cheers!

First!? I always view whatever I’m paying over actual spot as~ just cash I would’ve wasted anyway ~ if I’m forced to sell before it passes spot+premium~. I agree with your previous statements that keeping my buying on a monthly basis keeps it exciting and keeps me focused. It would be great to get an ounce per month..but I’d have to resort to less desirable activities for the kinda scratch needed to pull that level of buying off… So, fractional it is! ..also, it seems reasonable to assume that if gold were to go to 4K per oz, I think there would be a good demand and wider market for 1/4 and 1/10 oz pieces. Easy flips (eagles) and I’d probably wave any premium.

I do a bit of a variation of what you mentioned about buying a full ounce every 4 months. I only buy gold eagles and I'll buy a full ounce every 4 months and I'll buy a 1/10 ounce every 2 weeks. Interesting. My experience is similar. I was also into fractionals for past 5 years. I liked that I can buy gold for a few hundred bucks or spare cash, and I wasn't too focused on premium. I then sold when I bought a home last year. Despite the premiums, I calculated I had a respectable return. I had no issue selling fractionals to the local dealer. The only coin which I thought was interesting that the dealer did not want was a quarter ounce Mexico peso. But no issues on Krugerand, Roosters, Soveriegns, Swiss Franc and other totally random bullion fractionals I had. I'm back to restacking fractionals but I'm buying slow as the premiums are sort of crazy for now.

Just an idea, you will lose premiums selling to most LCS's. But I have found you can generally recoup nearly all the premium and in some cases all of the premium when selling to private sellers. I have sold on Redditt, PM's for sale, with great success getting premiums back and the increase on spot price. Makes Fractionals make a lot more sense when you do. I would say selling to a local coin shop is last resort situation. Most of them will try to take advantage and stiff you on the premiums you paid when purchasing.

The difference is as gold goes up you're still recovering your initial investment while the one ounce would be gaining value. I would think the thing to do would be shop the peer to peer sales for someone who will sell for a slight premium vs not getting any premium from the LCS.

I started out with silver rounds a while back and then switched over to 1/10th oz gold eagles. I wanted to be able to buy gold regularly and 1/10th oz was all I could afford, and the way I saw it, a little gold with a higher premium is better than no gold. I knew that if I'd try to save up for larger coins I probably wouldn't end up getting them in the end. Buying regularly helps keep the motivation alive, rather than buying a 1 oz coin once or twice a year. At first I was a bit turned off by how small the 1/10th oz coins are, but now that's something I love about them. They are very easy to store and conceal. And I also love the fact that it's easy to know exactly how much you have. E.g. if you have 12 coins, that's 1.2 ounces and you just multiply the spot price by 1.2. I also later discovered that you can indeed get over spot for them if you sell them. I have a local place that pays 3% over spot for the 1/10th oz eagles, and I've seen places online that pay as much as 9% over spot for them. So, even though you pay a higher premium for them, you can get some of it back when you sell if you find the right place to sell them to.

I haven't even bought any yet but am learning a ton from channels like this one. Thanks 2 is 1. Anyway, one of the things that appeals to me regarding fractionals is the flexibility when selling. If I need to part with some of it I don't want to have to sell more than I need to just because all I have is 1 oz. coins because I was trying to save on premiums which in the grander scheme of things later will likely seem pretty insignificant IMHO. Even though the silver is more likely to be used for my purchases (barter) depending on values of each in the future I may opt to part with a small amount of gold instead of the silver. I'm thinking a bit of diversification in denominations is probably wise with both gold and silver. Larger items for saving (wealth preservation) and smaller ones for actual purchasing/bartering and liquidating as needed.

So it might not be such a bad idea sticking to fractional coins cause we dont know if they will lower the limit of anonymous gold buys/sells in the future.. Rather pay higher premiums than future taxes to the government or anyone who´s then involved in the trading process.

I can’t tell you why I bought some fractional. For the unknown? It was just part of my plan. 3 ounces of fractional, 2 1/2 oz, 4 1/4 oz and 10 1/10th oz. not going to lie it was painful on the 1/10 oz, I went with the cheapest I could buy. I think mine say Wal-Mart on them.,.,kidding but I did buy the 1/4 and 1/10 from the Austrian mint. As a new stacker, I’ve got this thing in my head that I want only the 24 ct gold. So that is what I Stack. Mostly buffaloes or maples. But there is no comparison in quality, the maples look so much nicer than the buffaloes to me. But I have to remind myself why I am buying and looks don’t matter.....why am I buying?...good content as always

Saving up for a whole ounce was a long slog for me and I was more than tempted on many occasions to go fractional. The price of gold felt like it was running away from me. I opted to stay the course and work toward that first full ounce. The feeling of accomplishment was worth it! I suppose fractional coins can get you on a schedule and build a habit while also giving you a "quick hit" of a coin in hand. The temptation for a non-US fractional is scratching at me again but I think I'm going to cool my jets. It would be fun to get but it won't be as amazing as that first full ounce.
@jamesw.3491
@jamesw.3491 2 жыл бұрын
I think about selling when I am buying. Whole ounces are fine, but fractionals are a smarter idea. I don't sell to LCS because they want to screw sellers. Spot or less. So IF I needed to sell 2,3,5 ounces of gold, which is easier for the working man to afford? A $500 quarter ounce coin, or a $2000 ounce of gold? You might say "well that's a lot of hassle", and you may be right. But I expect to get the full value of my stuff, not give it away. In a 1 hour driving radius of me, there are no good LCS's that I would deal with. Low buy offers and premiums higher than online. So selling/buying private is a better route. Old coins, bullion and bullion coins tend to sell higher privately here too, then online. Auctions here are nuts.

I am glad I have the patience to get the 1 oz coins. Worth the wait IMO. To me, the spread on the gold, spot to premium price, is harder to cover. Gold would have to make some big moves to cover the premiums. Silver, on the other hand, is a PM that it is easier to cover the spread, when needing to sell. $2-$4 is a lot easier to make up on silver than the $50 to $100 on gold.
@2is1gold

Silver's premium is way higher than gold's, though. Are you comparing an ounce of silver to an ounce of gold?
@westtexasprepper
@westtexasprepper 2 жыл бұрын
@@2is1gold yes, % wise, the premium is higher on silver, but typically, one can find some deals on lower premiums on silver, $2-$3 per ounce. So silver does not have as far to move, spot wise, to cover that premium.

I picked up a BU Swiss Miss last Saturday for 364. That’s 10$over spot. I feel I did good on that one as I’m sure I’ll never get better than 90% spot when I sell to a LCS. That being said. A private party sale while not ideal isn’t out of my wheelhouse, so I don’t feel bad about a random purchase from time to time. My next purchase will definitely be a 1/4oz eagle so back to the core plan friend. As always keep ‘‘em coming 2/1. You are appreciated!!!

I like the old gold, but I admit, the 1/4oz Eagles are MUCH easier to liquidate. I stack both. There is a little paranoia in my head about confiscation, so I feel the old gold is less apt to be on the chopping block from an overzealous government due to is "collectable" status.

If the ¼oz price creeps up further to where it gets into the $600 territory maybe I will go to 1/10oz for awhile and try and space purchases to every other week. At least you can be just under ¼oz per month pace. If you buy today (Thursday) you can get 3 tenth oz purchases in this month. As I have mentioned before, I can't wait on an 1oz. I do like the visual of a variety of sizes when you open up, in my case, a Pelican box of gold.

I like fractional GOLD. One it's the only GOLD I can afford. Two it's easier to sell. The 3rd reason if we ever have a time you need it to buy things with it just makes it easier then just having 1oz GOLD coins.The lowest fractional GOLD I buy are 1/10oz. I do have some 2.5 gram fractional GOLD bars a couple that are a little less.I picked them up when I first started stacking. They were on sale. If I would have to use my gold to bother with would take change in silver.All in all if that time ever came about fractional GOLD and SILVER would be the best precious metals to have. I do not buy fractional silver. I stick to 1oz SILVER coins and 5 and 10oz SILVER bars. Over the past year and a half I really upped my GOLD buying and focused more on SILVER rounds. The premiums on SILVER coin are just to high. I tried to keep my ratio one ounce of GOLD to every hundred ounces of SILVER. I will buy SILVER coins when on sale and if they are a few cents over a BUFFALO ROUND. When I do buy SILVER ROUNDS they will only be BUFFALO ROUNDS now.I do have 20 to 40oz of different kinds of SILVER ROUNDS. When I buy SILVER of any kind I always get at least a tube worth. So that mostly 20 unless you are buying MAPLE LEAFS. 🍁. But since I can't afford a whole tube at a time I started putting them in smaller tubes of 20.l do have two tubes of MAPLE LEAFS that hold 25.Then again I did that when I first started stacking. I always watch your videos. Great content. 👍

Help a newbie understand fractional!! The premiums on fractional metals are so high. Why would you want to purchase fractional instead of saving the cash until you can purchase a 1oz coin/bar? (10) 1/10oz coins will cost you significantly more than a 1oz of the same coin.

Great videos 👏🏼 Just discovered your channel recently and enjoy all your videos. I am planning on budgeting and buying around 1/10th of an ounce per month just as a way to build a small side investment (I have some real estates investment already). Although not a big amount I feel that 1/10th of an ounce per month will basically go unnoticed in my spendings. I am from France so I might consider the 10 Francs rooster -2.9g of gold- (or 20 Francs « napoleon » as we call them here -5.8g of gold-), also because i can see that the premium on some web sites are about 6% « only ». I like the quality of 24carat so might just consider the 1/10th of ounce maple leaf. Could you please do a special video on the 20franc rooster coin ? Thanks for your videos
