Just painted a motorcycle gas tank using ColorRite 1K color match spray paint and covered it with 2K gloss. I was able to get 3 coats of clear out of 1 can. Amazing results from a spray can.

It doesn't last 2-3 weeks it last 2-3 days after you activate. After the 3 days the can will go bad and start spraying hard and weird and don't recommend using it.

The issue with these for consumers is the very long drying time. If you can't paint in a closed room without dust, it's almost impossible to keep a good finish until the paint is dry.

hi there. I'm endlessly confused about rules of 1k and 2k (namely that can't paint 2k over 1k... although some say let cure fully then fine sand, dust and then cover - another whole subject perhaps...) so my question here is: what is the 'base coat' that you use in this video before the 2k clear? it seems like a regular can, unlike the 2k you demonstrate. so how is it not a 1K followed by a 2k? an extension of that question might be: is are base coats neither 1k nor 2k? for context I'm asking because I have purchased a bunch of DNA aerosols to paint a motorbike tank (basecote, metal flake, candy, colourshift, and 1k clear and was hoping to experiment with them by layering and masking etc. I presume they are all 1k so clear can be applied between flake and candy and again over the top to create smoothness and more room to move incase needing to sand between coats and so forth. now I'm wondering if the base coat black is then infact not compatible for using between flake or candy coats to create black fading to an edge look. I have tried calling DNA a few times to clarify this and if their 1k is an acrylic and they didn't know what I meant by that, and that their aerosols were based on a 2 part system (evidently not true!)...so either I'm more eligible to answer their phones than their showroom staff or I'm losing my mind here. maybe there is something really basic I've missed here. any light on this matter would be so appreciated! thanks heaps for your videos

Yes, there is 2K base coats/primer cans. It is a must to spray primer/base coat first before final paint. And before primer, use sand-paper 1000 or higher with water for a perfectly smooth and glossy base surface. After the sanding, wash with clean water, dry and clean the surface with nitro-thinner and 100% cotton fiber - you can use an old cotton T-shirt as fiber. After spraying the primer, if you are not in a hurry, leave it to dry for at least 12 hours, after that sand it superficial again with 1000, clean the surface with clean cotton fiber slightly damped with nitro-thinner and now you have a perfect surface to paint :) Caution ! Don't use regular thinner because it contain fats and this regular thinner is for oil base paints ! If you'll use regular thinner to clean the surface, the primer and the paint will have no grip and will peel off very easy ! Don't forget this or you'll compromise the whole work ! Now back to the paint job : 2K works far better than 1K. Even on plastic, ABS, acryl or fiber parts like bumpers. Tested myself and so far no issues until now. The condition is to use also 2K paint. I think I would risk using a preval spray with some production 2k clear in the can. I tried this and after buff it looked better and I still have a whole gallon of clear. Preval spray can 5 bucks USD and gallon of decent production clear 65. They just dont have that nifty fan on the can like that one. But after buffing it is just fine.

F&F 2k clear wont work on 1k base, it will react and eat into/ bubble the 1k base. If that does not happen eventually it will de-laminate and crack.

Your notes say it has to be used over a 2 part base. That is not correct, I've done six motorcycles and many car parts using it over aerosol color-matched base spray paints.

I have a SprayMax 2k question for you. I sprayed it on, and it did a great job... but for whatever reason, I then decided to scour the end finish with 3000 grit before buffing it out with polish. This left it with a sort of satin finish when I wanted high gloss to help enhance the colour pop! Is it possible to lay another coat or 2 of SprayMax 2k, or will the polish I used repel the clear coat? If that is the case, is there a way to prep it without ruining the paint below?

If you didn't actually sand through the clearcoat you should be able to sand it with some 5000 grit wetsanding paper and then polish it again with a heavy cut compound, preferably with a machine polisher, and it should become shiny. The satin finish is just a lot of micro scratches that can be taken out with finer sanding and compounding.

It definitely comes with the experience. I painted my M/C gas tank with the automotive touch up paint from spray cans then covered with POLY clear. The problem with spray cans there is very little paint and alot of thinner to make it spray. The paint looks great but you still have to worry about gasoline.

pmo civilian police Urethanes are thick in nature unless you have a really good spray gun that can atomize the clear coat then you get orange peel but all clear coat in all spray guns still give you the effect of orange peel and you cannot adjust the orange peel on a spray can, it's impossible, a spray can is what you see is what you get there is no feed control on a spray can.

You did a few things incorrectly no offence but It will only last 48 hours not even a week and it will be bad don’t use it past the 48 hour mark if you activated the hardener trust me you’ll have a hell of a time sanding down your entire project after spraying the expired 2k clear and 2nd thing is activate the hardener right from the hop before spraying don’t spray the plain clear coat on first it’s just a waste of a 35$ can of paint ….

Painted the hatchback to my car and used your typical automotive clear coat. The results were horrible! I had to redo the entire job. The second time around I used the 2K and ended up with professional results. It's an impressive product. Almost similar to applying a clear coat with a spray gun. You can also feel the hardness of the clear coat afterwards during the water sanding process.

Some clear coats out of a can are absolute garbage and shouldn’t be sold at all, they provide no gloss and destroy your base paint with extreme orange peel

I would only use this on small parts I wouldn't use it on any big panels professionals want good UV protection and I doubt that clear has any good UV protection and I doubt it's a high-solids clear but for a little parts maybe I use it but it's probably very expensive good for the backyard. techs but professionals won't use it.

ItsJussJ Only use over 2 stage which is basecoat clearcoat single stage it's just means it's more of a enamel coat which doesn't require clear coat to shine is in it but you do not shoot clear over single stage paint you will have problems.

i have a fender and when i finish painting it, it is a different color than what is in the can. The paint matches the rest of the car perfectly when i spray a test spot on the car. The fender is from a junkyard. When i first painted the fender the color came out correctly. That was with another brand of paint. Any ideas?
