Close. Not counting the Destroyer, the 08 Nightrod VRSCD or D for short is the best Vrod…. Not to be confused with the Nightrod Special VRSCDX DX which is the blacked out one. They made the D from 06-08 and the DX from 07-17. In 08 The Vrod received several upgrades. A wider frame, five gallon tank, the 1250 motor to help spin that heavy 240 rear, and optional ABS. The D got most of those upgrades. The one that it didn’t get was the 240 rear. It kept the lighter and better handling 180. The D is the better performing one if you are just comparing numbers. But what really elevates the D is that it has mid controls and forward highway pegs, so it wins the comfort race too. The mid controls allow for a better relationship between the rider, the bike, and the road. I’ll watch about anything that has a Vrod in it, but this was a bit of a struggle. The Vrod isn’t supposed to be ridden like your 45 degree typical twin cam or M8. 4-6k is where she likes it. People have gotten used to the old style Harleys and think that a 60 degree Harley race engine reworked by Porsche needs to be babied when it just wants to run like a raped ape, and the Vrod will do it too. The two main reasons Harley quit making them is because your typical Harley salesperson didn’t know how to promote the Vrod, (most of their techs didn’t know how to work on them either), and at the time they couldn’t keep the high revving and high horse power motor EPA compliant. That last one was a huge factor. But the Vrod that was designed by Willy G himself, still has a 15 year run and that was allot better compared to a few other Harley models like the Rocker and the Crossbones. Regardless of the year, the Vrod will always be my favorite Harley. I still like DWGs, RGs, and Sportsters too.

I was looking at the Vrod, Sportster S and FXDR 114. I ended up getting the Sportster S but part of me wishes I went with the Vrod instead. Sportster S is a great bike but mods are nonexistent. The bike is made in a way where’s there’s not much you can do. Where as Vrods are like the Hayabusa when it comes to people customizing them.

Don't get too discouraged, there's a series of videos from Harley-Davidson of people customizing the RevMax platforms. Sportster S's just haven't been around long enough for us to see the full potential!

Is it correct that HD is bringing them back in 25? That was the only bike I have ever liked coming out of HD. The story was that many owners complained that the headlight was very poorly designed and was not enough lumens at nights riding. The Porsche engine is sweet.
