hey guys, this is my 2nd day on the track riding 2020 Yamaha YZ125X and I have to tell you that I just love this 2 stroke dirt bike on MX track. I admit that I had some preconception about it, but it is all changing now. Check out the video and let me know your thoughts. Cheers!!

When you go on the outside line you can hold your momentum and you won’t have to change gears but the inside line is harder but when done right is more rewarding

I spent an entire year racing cross country on my 2002 Suzuki RM125. My impression of that DC range is that they're capable of doing whatever you want with a little persuasion. They may not be the best for everything, but they have just enough power to be blazing fast without the risk of pulling the front wheel on every turn and dumping you. It's easy to be lazy on them. As long as you carry enough speed into a turn, you can lock up the back wheel and never pull in the clutch. The bike just busts right off as soon as you let off the brake and you're rocketing off. I love my 125, and recommend them for anybody just wanting a feel good bike, or even a beginner who wants to get started riding.

It was great seeing how capable the X-bike Yamahas are on the track. You are not a small, light guy, and you showed that it was totally capable. I thought that if the rider was more than 150 lbs, that it would maybe end up being like a CRF230 or WR on the track. I'm really a trail rider, who likes the option of riding on the track, too, and it looks like the X-Yamaha's are totally capable. And they are obviously great on the trails, since they are designed for it. By the way, your track riding skills are GREAT in my opinion, and have been for quite some time. Impressive to me.

glad you liked it, I was also surprised how well this bike handles the track with 200lbs rider on, plus these X bikes do feel great at the trails as well. I've been riding track way more than before, last year I spent more time riding MX than all my previous years combined, hope to get more confident and ride main track the way I ride vet.. I am very cautious too.. I dont want to take too much risk on the track.. thanks for sharing!

KTM has a 125 xc model coming out for 2021. According to the website it has all the standard equipment of an offroad/xc bike including an Electric starter, a larger tank and the initial pictures indicate it still retains the kickstarter and is carbureted . I know the couple times I've gone to the track as a novice rider it's a lot easier to hold your line on the outside. I get super nervous that I'll get in the way so I can give people a wider breadth and have more time to square up and concentrate on body position and throttle going into a jump from the outside. As speed and confidence increases i think I'd feel better choosing lines and crossing over the track more.

I'm actually thinking of getting a YZ 125X. I have been riding big bore bikes for so long I almost forgot how light these 125's are on the trails. I believe my KTM 300 made me into a lazy rider. And my Beta 498 is a beast on hard core trails. In all honesty I rarely (if ever) used all the power of the "big bikes" on tight trails. Just in the desert and deep sand washes and hills. I'm liking you channel!! Your a pretty damn good rider too!! Thank you Sir!!

As a slower rider, I take the outside a lot in corners to let the faster riders take the inside and get by me. I also like the outside because I'm not good at carrying momentum, so the outside helps me build speed to get over the obstacles. And yes, a lot of people like the outside so they can throw roost. It makes you feel cool haha.
@dirtniron

yes, I was riding outside lines most of the time when I started MX, but I see that faster guys are switching inside outside and gaining some time by doing that. I push myself to get that inside in my blood. Some of the guys on this video were pretty good, yet they rarely went inside.

The thing with the outside rut : how fast you can go in a corner comes down to the maximum allowed centrifugal force. The centrifugal force increases when the radius decreases or speed (& mass) increases. So your mid corner speed will be higher in the bigger radius. The smaller radius has some other advantages ; you can brake later and accelerate earlier because of the smaller arc length. When however conditions are preventing you from hard accelerating/braking it can be faster to maintain more speed thru the corner by using the outside rut. Also when your bike doesn't allow you to accelerate very hard, like a on small bore two stroke , bad tire , worn brakes you name it, it can give you some advantage. Track layout is also a factor, you want the right speed on an jump or rhythm section, when this is close after a corner it can be easier to use the outside rut. Then finally , it can help to not do what everybody does. If we al use the inside rut it gets very bumpy and crowdy, so overtaking might get easier on the outside.

Rado, watching this video has been inspiring to me. My son is currently riding a CRF125F, and his next step will be an 85 2-stroke. I've long debated if and when to switch him to a MX 2-stroke, anticipating the peakiness, on/off light switch nature of a small 2-stroke, and all the extra shifting that comes along with them. I thought that it might take the fun out of it, and discourage him. Before the CRF125F he had a KLX110, and I came soooo close to upgrading to a 65 after the KLX. I decided to go with the CRF to introduce the clutch, and let him get some more experience, and to avoid all the "issues" or extra work that comes with a 2-stroke. But after listening to your reaction to riding/learning the 125, I'm pumped about his next move. Hopefully he could click with the 85, and enjoy the experience, like you are with the 125. I've thoroughly washed his CRF to list it for sale, and should be taking the pictures this week. The problem I see currently is the lack of used units for sale. I thought the coronavirus situation was going to put a lot more bikes up for sale, but it looks like the opposite has happened. Hopefully the right bike pops up soon after I sell his current one.
@dirtniron
@dirtniron 4 жыл бұрын
I think thats a great decision. Makes sense to start with clutch on 125f and get that dialed in first, I think he will really enjoy that 85 once he gets familiar with the power. Kids are so fast on those little 2 strokes, hard to keep up with them. Good luck with sale and a purchase too ;)

I'm currently riding a 125 four-stroke and it's not fast, but it has good low-end and mid-range power. I have no choice but to take the outside line every time in order to keep up the momentum and have enough speed for the next hill or jump. The bike is very fun to ride, and you're pretty much trying to keep up the momentum and keep it as much as possible wide open at top speed all the time.

Rado, guys go outside on the Cahuilla vet track because they don’t rip the track deep at all, it’s basically “dust on crust” and guys are looking for something to turn off of lol. You have to creep around the inside with the bike standing up straight to maintain any kind of traction. That’s why I stay on the big track, it’s much friendlier for a pipey yz250, and actually has some softness and depth to the soil for lines to form..
@dirtniron
@dirtniron 4 жыл бұрын
thats a good point Dustin, I rode main track last weekend and its so much deeper, you can really lean into those corners.. majority of inside lines on vet are pretty much flat turns, deep ruts would feel better, there are few turns like that.. I need to step up my game and start riding that main track more

they are quite different bikes.. you need to decide if you want 2 stroke or 4 stroke, I think 125x is cheaper and can get you everywhere crf250f can.. but you dont have electric start, its not as smooth, etc.. I think you cant go wrong with either bike

@@dirtniron It can be, if play riding just one always wants to step it up and normally ends in injuries, knee, wrist, shoulders seem to be the worst. I do like it just seems like when you do crash it is worse than 'play riding' in an area or woods riding.

Looked like a lot of fun!! Probably the reason they both dropped off at the end is probably because they couldn’t hang on any more !.. it’s hard work on a big 4T. But you need to practice lees cruising and be either on the gas or on the brakes. Too many times your rolling for 10-15-20metres… where you can be either on the gas or the brakes. You jump really well though bro! Good work 👌🏼

I just got my first Dirt bike and just need some advice on engine breaking. They say don't do it due to no oil getting to piston, Does this mean every time I let off the gas I should pull in the clutch or is it ok to coast for a little bit w/o clutching or gassing ?

This is a myth to some degree, the engine will be getting some oil while engine breaking, as the carb will still be providing idle level fueling.

To improve your two stroke riding: *Be consistent with the throttle!* You snap/ close the throttle to often, especially in the corners, which makes your ride shaky and slower. Hold it through the corners to have the tension and forward momentum in your bike. 👍

That's a great bike for fun on the track if you are not actually racing or competing. 2 strokes generally are great for track use but they lack the torque and traction provided by 4-stroke power. I guess the pulsing power of thumpers allows for better grip or maybe the 2-strokes are too snappy and more inclined to spin the wheel. Thanks for another good video.

I think you did great. I'm a new dirt bike rider. I've been riding motorcycles all my life but never really owned a dirt bike. I wanted a 125cc bit I have bad patients so at the time I had money all that was available was a Honda cr250r. So I bought that. I've rode 125's but NEVER a 250cc. OMG BIG DIFFERENCE!!! The power is endless! And on the down side it's a 93 so it's WAY heavier. So if anybody watching this has a 125cc for sale or trade hmu. My trade bike would obviously be a 1993 cr250r in really good shape. Alot of new parts.
