Welcome back to the AVEVA Everything3D Course! 🌐 In this session, we'll dive into the essential steps for seamlessly transitioning your projects from PDMS 12.1 to AVEVA E3D. Both platforms share a common database, allowing for smooth interchangeability between the two. This means you can effortlessly open projects designed in PDMS 12.1 with AVEVA E3D and vice versa.
To set the stage, let's briefly revisit the project-setting process in PDMS 12.1. With the presence of four crucial folders-ISO, PIC, MAC, and 000-you can easily configure your project. By editing the "evars.bat" file, located within the PDMS 12.1 installation directory, you specify the root paths for these folders, effectively setting up your project. For instance, if your project named MET resides in drive D, you would edit the file as follows:
```
set MET000=D:\MET\MET000
set METISO=D:\MET\METISO
set METPIC=D:\MET\METPIC
set METMAC=D:\MET\METMAC
```
Now, let's transition to AVEVA E3D. Unlike PDMS 12.1, the "evars.bat" file in the E3D installation folder is not editable. However, fear not, for there is another editable "evars" file that we'll use to set up your project. Here's a step-by-step guide:
1. **Locate "evars.bat" in the E3D installation directory by right-clicking on the E3D shortcut and selecting "Open file location."
2. **Search for "set project" within the file to identify the directory where the editable "evars" is located. Copy this location and navigate to it.
3. **Within this directory, you'll find "custom_evars.bat," which is the file we can edit.
4. **Right-click on "custom_evars.bat" and open it for editing.
5. **Specify the paths for your project folders, mirroring the structure in PDMS 12.1.
6. **Save and close the "custom_evars.bat" file.
7. **Voila! Your project is now set up in AVEVA E3D. 🚀
In our upcoming episode, we'll explore the intricacies of upgrading from PDMS 11.5 and 11.6 to version 12, and subsequently, guide you through the upgrade process from PDMS 12 to 12.1 and into the realm of E3D. Stay tuned for an insightful journey into project evolution! 🛠️📈
