Great videos, looking forward to watching and learning. I am new to salt water fishing and moving to Florida and have found a lot of quality used equipment in thrift stores etc. A lot of fun to repair and refurbish. Ty

Welcome Bill and thanks for finding my channel! Please subscribe as I post frequently. My advice in this video is to start with a brand you like and focus on a subset of that - Freshwater vs. Saltwater, conventional or spinning or bait casting and then expand when you have mastered that segment. Don't try to do it all when you first get started, it will only lead to frustration. Please feel free to send a note if you get stuck on a project. I will see if I can help "un-stick" it - Dennis

Hi, at about 8 min into this video you put up a black mitchell reel.. I was curious on your thoughts of a reel like that compared to modern conventional reels. my father has several of that style I was going to go through.. not to resell but curious on how they compare to todays reels. thanks for the videos

Yes - you are referring to the Mitchell saltwater series of 302/306 which are the larger reels. These were known for great, leading edge design. If maintained, that reel will do today, what it did then - be reliable and catch a lot of fish. Today's reels are lighter in weight do to graphites and "space age" metals, they are smoother with CNC cut gears and lots of ball bearings. In the end though, a reel is a big gear driving a little gear to pull in line, so.... The old ones will catch as many fish as the newer ones. You may just need to crank a little harder and get used to the additional weight on the pole and the effect it will have on your arms after a full day of casting. Thanks for asking
