I belong to a couple Facebook reel collector groups. I regularly post my more interesting reel projects. One day early last year a guy on Facebook contacted me to see if I had any interest in buying his late father-in-law's reel collection. There were around 140 reels, mostly Johnson reels. I had no idea how much that collection was worth as I had never dealt in that kind of volume. Almost all of the reels needed some kind of maintenance work. Because he was in no hurry to sell them I made a deal with him to sell his reels after getting them is saleable condition. He brought the reel collection to me in the early fall, so I could work on them and sell them over the winter. I had to assess the condition of every reel to get a handle on what was going to be easiest to sell and work on them first. It's been a few months, and now I'm getting down to the bottom of the barrel. The last of the reels consists of parts reels and low demand reels. It's been a learning experience learning how to repair and market all those reels on eBay, but I found it a very rewarding endeavor. I gained a lot of knowledge of Johnson reels in particular.

Yeah pawn shop is very good idea especially on winter.. I got many reels from it.. about 8 dollars each... including my daiwa ss tournament 1600..and stradic st 2000..which cost..a descent amount of money...when new.. thanks..

They are good alternatives. You just have to test the reels. A lot of Pawn shop owners don't know the reel and sometimes overlook something that is broken. Your finds sound like great bargains Rey. - Dennis

That's a good start. Generally you need at least half price or lower in order to any money doing this. There are costs associated with repair, cleaning and resale that add to the overall pre-sale expense.

Sure thing. This is a business where you can start small and manage your growth. It is low cost of entry and if you put your profits back into the business, you can grow quickly. I have friends with limited mobility that are doing what you plan. Their main source of reels is on-line and that is also where they sell. I wish you the best with your back and with your efforts here. Thank you for the post. Dennis

Yolanda - I recommend you start with a spray penetrating oil like WD40 and use it as a degreaser. That will help break up the dried oils and greases - Best wishes on your project - Dennis

@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 6 жыл бұрын
I will check my parts bin, but I do not keep or have many Zebco reels. The problem is that they made too many variations and they do not support their reels so their approach is buy it, used it until it breaks and then buy another one. Good for business...no Check their website and you will find the statement on parts! Thanks for asking - Dennis
