I never got any of these as I was collecting the Silver Series Daiwa and the 8600. I imagine these are the same as the Silver Series but the color is different. As I thought the color appears to be the major difference although that black top on the spool is different. I’ve got three of the 7000C reels one of which I bought as a parts reel for emergencies but I could fish with all three if I wanted. I would have used the steel wool on that axle shaft but that’s me. I love these Daiwas. I think I have about 29 Daiwas made before 1980. They are all great reels but the 8600 is the best of the bunch. Great video!

@@2ndChanceTackle Dennis - 1 year later. I now have at least 66 Daiwa reels in my collection. Of those reels seven are GS series reels. I’ll never collect all of the GS reels as there are just too many and different sub-series like the CS-X and GS-SC. As usual I got the three largest saltwater GS reels first. Do you remember giving me three old GS project reels when I was so sick. I’ll never forget that! - Chris

Hi Dennis. Those old daiwas are great reels. i have a question. Im looking at a daiwa gs 60 on ebay and was wondering if you are farmiliar with it. Is it just a larger version of this reel? I already have a 7000c and absolutely love it Im hoping the gs60 is similar in size and performance to the 7000c. Thanks

Yes they are. The GS60 is on Par with the 2500C. The GS (Gold Series) followed the Silver series which has your 7000C as part of the line up. I never quite figured out the numbering system on the GS, but the GS9 is the largest in the lineup. It is a beast, on part with the Mitchell 486 and it is an ideal surf fishing reel - Dennis

No doubt the Diawa Gold Series reels are of a better quality than the Silver Series reels of their time. Some of the gears look better made. More ball bearings. The anti-reverse and directional crank are placed ahead on the reel and connected by a shaft, instead of placed in the rear of the reel. Just better, overall.
