This PING irons comparison focuses on the players cavity irons comparison. The newest PING irons in 2021, the i59 irons, are replacing the iBlade irons that have been popular for several years. DOn't switch. The feel of the iBlade is superior. Tried the i59 and I thought I'd get used to the hard feel - but eventually went back to bilades.

Wow. I wish I could hit 14 shots as close as those. It shows players irons are incredibly consistent with no knuckleballs that we tend to get with cavity backs.

I play the original S59 irons. What would be the current ping iron that would compare to it. In your opinion, what would be the benefits of having a current model ping iron over the original S59....are they easier to hit, distance...etc....Thanks, Jeff from Tennessee.

i'm just a fellow subscriber, so i'll throw in my two cents' worth on your question, and i'm a 3 handicap: I had the S59 myself from 2007 to 2017, and got the iBlades brand new when they came out (i think it was late 2017 or early 2018 when i made the switch). For me personally, i think the iBlades just basically offer a little more forgiveness, and they aren't quite as harsh to the hands on mis-hits as the old S59's. I don't recall the distance really changing at all (in all honesty, the only reason i changed was because the faces on my old S59's were starting to show some serious wear from 10 years of play).

Great test and video. The i59 has NOTHING on the iblade. Let's see, buy two new i59 irons or an entire set of moderately used iblade irons for about $500? No brainer. The cost of the i59s is offensive!

meh, they didn't set the price to offend you. Cost of R&D and materials. Frankly the net profit to ping is probably similar between both sets. You forget that the ANSER irons were over $2000 10 years ago.

The i59 is the most technically advanced iron ping has ever made. . . . Which is why it cost more. . . Having owned them for a year. The i59 are the most consistent irons I've ever owned.

Where is the ~8000 spin that Thomas was getting in the i59 (vs T100) video? Almost 2000 reduction in spin isn't a day-to-day change in Thomas's swing.

RPM is great for cars but a golf shot is in the air for maybe 5 or 6 seconds. So if you divide the number by 10 it’s a difference of 565 rotations vs 588 rotations. So realistically it’s almost nothing, 23 more rotations is doing nothing.

I would love to understand PING's reasoning for swapping from an elastomer insert in the iBlades to an aluminium insert on the i59's. Knowing PING there would have to be a good reason for the change, but looking at the numbers etc there looks to be very little difference, apart from an improvement in consistency.

@@christianhowtolife4961 you are probably right, but it would be interesting to hear from PING. To help understand their reasoning for such a radical departure from the norm, which is pretty un-PING like.

@@banditbaker1675 I’m guessing it has something to do with tuning the forged metal. The elastomer may not have been solid enough to make the clubs solid feeling at impact. I don’t think either materials themselves really boosted ball speeds though. The iblades play about as traditional length as you can get. The light weight does allow for perimeter weighting for forgiveness though.

@@christianhowtolife4961 yes I guess that it may be related to supporting the hollow cavity, eliminating the "clicky" sound/feel that you get with some hollow Irons. And I agree that neither of the cavity fillers will of themselves increase Ball speed, the cavity is there to save weight & to move the CG away from the face. Though I'm surprised that PING hasn't made more of a "thing" about the ali insert

Of the two, P770 will produce more ball speed than the i59. The i59 will likely provide a softer feel and more blade-like performance with more workability.

@@2ndswing will it be a bad idea to get the i59 if I don’t have a swing speed in the 90’s or I have a higher handicap? I’m told by a young buck at the store that I should not consider the i59. I was hitting the 7 iron an average distance of 130-135yds. The p770’s were an average of 140’s- 150 yards.
