Ernest was the first natural country singer, he was not anything or anyone but himself...everyday people easily relate to him with ease cause he didn't put on any airs and cared for his fans.

First time I see this, good EP with all good songs. Love that Leon & Buddy combo, can't be beat in my book! I have a couple of those songs on the "On Tour" album, & the other two I have on 45's.

I heard & read that the "On Tour" & "Hittin' The Road" albums are really not "live" & I believe I read Jan Kurtis said the only "live" one is "Live 1965" which I have, the others are in studio. Is that correct?

yeah John can you tell me if ET and Mel Tillis were in music business together did they tour together I believe at one point that Mel Tillis wrote songs for E.T is that correct
@2packs4sure7 жыл бұрын
No they weren't, I'm sure somewhere along the line ET recorded a Mel Tillis song like so many did, but they were not in business together nor did they ever tour together to my knowledge. Mel WAS an employee of Cedarwood publishing (i.e. Webb Pierce) for several years til he went out on his own. He also worked with Porter Wagoner for a while but never ET. I've held a ton of ET records in my hands through the years and looked at the writers credits as I always do and I don't recall ever seeing a Mel Tillis writing credit on one. There has to be a few in there somewhere but I can't think of any.
@peggybagley80317 жыл бұрын
2packs4sure yeah John I think maybe you're right it was Webb, not Ernest Tubb
@2packs4sure7 жыл бұрын
Webb cut more of Mel's songs in the 1956 - 1961 era than just about anyone else. Mel's rhythms fit Webb better than they did ET, that's for sure and some of Mel's songs could be really rangey and Webb had the range. Mel once on a TV show I was watching while introducing Margo Smith said " Now here's a lady that can hit notes only show dogs and Webb Pierce can hear,,, ladies and gentleman MISS MARGO SMITH ! " Webb could hear em' AND hit em'.

"I'll bet that was a hell of a road trip." Any suggestions for further viewing or reading on just what the typical Troubadour road trips entailed? Also...any chance of uploading a good clean version of the "Thanks A Lot" LP? I liked the album and the song "Way That You're Living" a lot. Someone else had it on their channel but it was deleted awhile back. Much Thanks for the great uploads, 2pack.

If you want to learn about ET then find a book called Ernest Tubb: The Texas Troubadour: Ronnie Pugh ,,,, great read. They're always on ebay and there a a few road trip stories in there. If you remind me in October I'll do the Thanks A Lot lp.

Do you like Junior Brown?
@2packs4sure5 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah ! I actually heard him for the first time in the 90's in my truck on FM radio and couldn't believe it. I have all his CD's and a couple of his 45's in my jukebox. The 45 rpm Highway Patrol is different than the CD version by the way......
@conrar13205 жыл бұрын
@@2packs4sure Interesting! His voice definitely has a sprinkling of Ernest in there, most notably in "My Baby Don't Dance To Nothing But Ernest Tubb" (for obvious reasons!) He does have a bit more "range" than Ernest did though (listen to the end of "The Cockeyed Cop from Camp Kakanakakee" in Junior's latest album - insane note), but Ernest's voice probably has more character to it. Both are great anyway.
@2packs4sure5 жыл бұрын
@@conrar1320 Agree and agreed, if I had to chose one I'd pick ET, but that in no way minimizes the awesomeness that is Junior Brown.
