This song is very emotional. It's about him being bullied for his weight and all the crap he went through when he was 14 and in middle school. It's about getting revenge for all the pain. Released Anger through his music. It hits home especially for those who were bullied in school when they were younger. All of their music has a message. They're deep.

Their actual name is written in katakana. Katakana is the Japanese alphabet used for borrowed words from other languages. ホルモン or hormone Horumonyaki (Japanese: ホルモン焼き) is a kind of Japanese cuisine made from beef or pork discarded parts. The name horumon is derived from the word "hormone", which means "stimulation" in Greek. The name horumon is also similar to the Kansai dialect term hōrumon (放る物), which means "discarded goods". What does this have to do with this band? When asked about the group's name in an interview, Maximum the Ryo-kun stated "Take it as you like, it means anything from the Japanese cuisine for cooking animal innards to the sensation of the maximum amount of your hormones coming to the boil! Although when we go abroad people think we’re just some sorta sexual energy drink." "Hormone" (or horumon) is a style of yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) where many of the typically discarded internal organs are grilled in bite sized pieces and eaten. P.S. I did the wikipedia work for you. 🤣🤣

This was awesome 😊 My favorite Maximum the Hormone song. I love the transitions in this one and the uplifting feeling and I can relate to this song. It is about school bullying and making it through childhood. The image of students jumping from their school roofs to commit suicide seems very prominent in Japan. This is what the ending hints at but then we see her driving back home telling us that suicide is not the answer. We need to stand up and fight for ourselves and others :) I know the world tour is over for now and Dir en grey will most likely not give you just as many clicks as Babymetal, Band-Maid or Maximum the Hormone will but if you are truly searching for the tip of the iceberg Dir en grey's Vinushka is a good point to start. Please save the link if you consider a reaction or do a live version because there is a promotion edit and a restricted video which need to be avoided ^^'' kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5CZo4OvrL1jfpY This band and the singers second project sukekiyo mean a lot to me and most of their fans because they create art which really touches your soul, makes you think, research and consequently learn more about human nature and see the world from different perspectives. If you give them a chance I am sure you would find a lot in their music and I would really love to listen to them with you and through your eyes and ears because I enjoy your reactions so much ^-^ Thank you for all this and have a good day~ 🤍

To be fair, most of the top tracks off of Buiikikeasu are very different from their usual style, including the titular song itself, missing a lot of their signature changeups. I've been a long time fan of the band and while What's Up People is far from my favorite track, I still respect how it might place a bit higher for someone else, especially if it has the compounded sentiment of being the song that got them into the band. Plus ya gotta remember that the anime is like 14 years old. Foreigners discovering a band like this just by running into them online or getting it suggested to them was a lot less likely back then.
