Tool doesn’t just rock, it’s a full submersive experience. And this was from near the end of the height of MTV actually still playing videos, the quality bar had gotten high, budgets gotten big, and out of nowhere a guy makes a simple claymation that, as true art, changes everything

@Marc Leblanc maybe in popularity pop is #1 but the world of metal is far more expansive than any other music genre, so many different genres of metal compared to the few different genres of pop or country. Metal has a little something for everyone, where I cant really say the same thing about any other genre of music.

Tool is all about the differences between your mind and everyone else's. Close your eyes and let your mind take you away. As every mind is individual, every trip is different. Tool is one of the best at exploiting that. Maynard' poetry is some of the best I have ever heard.

My concern is that the video was “creepy” and therefore you will think of Tool as “creepy” . They are not, but rather a “thinking person’s” prog metal band who’s lyrics often deal with spiritual subjects. Many reactors hear echos of Zeppelin, , Pink Floyd, (hypnotic vibe) Black Sabbath, King Crimson and even some Rush (complexity of rhythm and lyrics). Tool are really their own genre. I could tell you didn’t enjoy that video, but I urge you to react to more Tool before you dismiss them. And DON’T watch a video....unless it’s a live performance....settle into the vibe and then discuss the lyrics afterward. The song Pneuma captured me because I love complex rhythms and meaningful lyrics.

Sorta... They are dark as hell. Let's not pretend here. Regardless of the videos, their lyrics are darker than every other band you just mentioned. I do agree, that they are very intellectual and are always trying to awaken something deep an meaningful in the listener... but their whole thing is taking you through the lowest lows in the hopes that you will ride through it to the beauty on the other side. Their music is always a trip and often a dark one, but we usually learn the most from those. They are one of the darker trips you can take in the music world, but also one of the most intellectual, rewarding, and overall inspiring if you ride it out. Sort of like a prog metal version of The Doors. They are not afraid of their dark side, and often flaunt it. But they also are beacons of light. A powerful duality and balance rarely seen in music.

Suggestion: Get lyrics ready before doing the reactions!! Especially for bands that have singers who are hard to understand because of how they sing. I know these comment sections can fill you in on the meaning of the songs, but some of these songs have lyrics that are pretty shocking or get real emotional, and that is part of the reaction. Anyway...love watching your reactions so keep 'em going! 🤘

I got to see Tool live, back during the Lateralus tour, and it was nothing short of a spiritual experience. There were enormous screens where they projected psychedelic images and excerpts from their music videos, and there were aerial acrobats suspended on silk. They had no spotlights on the band itself, because they wanted us to focus on the art and the music. Best concert I've ever been to. I'd recommend Schism, and 46 & 2, if you'd like to explore them more. (Honestly, everything by them is beautiful, resonant and complex, then sometimes they'll blindside you with subversive humor like in Die Eier von Satan.)

@2RG - Please make note of this comment by My Name, rarely do Tool's videos directly correlate with a track's subject matter. There would be no shame in researching the track's inspiration/subject beforehand. Matheus Q C a lot of think they get lumped in the “metal” category for convenience sake but they aren’t similar to most modern metal acts. They are more just progressive rock or a category to themselves. I think they are closer to a band like Pink Floyd now than a band like, say, Gojira. Really doesn’t matter too much.

exactly! metal is an extremely wide category. I"ve been a metal fan since i was about 9 and its become clear that there is more variety and "types" of metal than any other genre of music. there's never too much and honestly never enough. I'm 35 now and still finding new (well usually old but new to me) stuff :)

This may be one of the "worst" Tool tracks. Not a knock on the song, its just a testament to how good their catalog is

Great reaction, ladies! It’s hard to not get distracted by Tool’s videos when listening to the songs. Adam Jones, their guitarist, has a background in special effects and created the character designs in this video.

Hello Ladies!!! Just sfumbled upon your Disturbed reaction of "Sound of Silence" & loved it! Q] I'm a fan! I have a good suggestion, I'm sure it's been done more than any other ever, but you really need to watch Tool's Live version of "Pneuma" you would enjoy it and I would love to see your reactions! Thanks for your time & KEEP ROCKIN!!

I was always drawn to Claymation, so when I listened to Tool for the first time with this one song. I was hooked instantly. Everything just felt right.

Tool is a super-philosphical band. One that a lot of people don't think of because it's less flashy is "Right in Two." Basically they're the metal version of high-concept prog-rock.

Love your channel ❤️. If no one has informed you never let the video be the focus of your judgement on Tool. The guitarist Adam Jones is a multi-talented human being. He started as a graphic artist in the movie business. He worked on Jurassic Park, Nightmare on Elm street just to name a few. Tool is a journey through the minds of 4 extremely talented people. Enjoy your ride.

The reason your grandson hasnt heard a band like TOOL and hasnt since and likely never will is because of how they play. The drum riffs are done in geometric shapes and the guitar riffs are mathematically calculated. TOOL is epic.

So TOOL is not your ordinary band You can just tap your foot to like tap or regular rock/ metal track, It goes way deeper than that. With undeniable captivating vocals/ lyrics, using very different off beat time signatures, tribal beats/ polyrhythms and different unique sounds that literally tap into your sub-conscience that will literally take you on a musical journey/experience you won’t forget. 🔥WELCOME TO THE TOOL ARMY🔥

Maynerd sings and does all the claymation and animation for Tool's videos. He is also in 2 other bands, Puscifer and a Perfect Circle. He has 12 college degrees. He has a vineyard & winery. I recommend the animated video for Right in 2 by Tool
