I remember at 16 years old.. prior to getting into bands like Slayer (this woulda been back in 1986) I was listening to bands like Dio, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Ozzy Osbourne. My mother actually sent me after school with my cassette tapes to talk to the local Catholic priest. She was thinking the music was evil/devil music or whatever. It was funny, as the priest read the lyrics to some of the Iron Maiden songs from the cassette liner and was like : This is not evil music. My mother was flabbergasted that the priest actually dismissed her concerns. I just found it funny.

I work at a truck stop next to I-70 and we have tour buses come through all the time and one day I was outside getting trash when I noticed a a guy standing next to a blacked out bus surrounded by several people wearing STAFF shirts. It caught my eye and then I realized that the guy was Tom Araya, the lead singer of Slayer. I was going to ask for an autograph but as I was taking off my gloves he reboarded the bus and they drove off. I wish I had seen him 1 minute sooner.

I'm 48, and I've been listening to Slayer since they released and toured Bogart's in Cincinnati. This was to be the beginning of what I consider the best Slayer album. Although it started of very aggressive and what many consider a non deviation from the last album, it goes right into Blood red, and takes a somber yet Thrash metal sound, of what I would consider the birth of Thrash. Each song more progressive than the next and unlike anything they had done before. Seasons is a Masterpiece.

It's very difficult to pick from their massive selection of masterpieces, but it benefits to see their live stuff and i think personally this is one of their best performances. Jeff Hanneman is the guitarist whose guitar has all of the stickers on it. He passed away in 2013 and his dad was/is a D-Day veteran. And if you are interested check out "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson live at Austin City Limits.

Great choice. The Faith No More version is good too, if a bit too close to the original.

As long as you're OK with foul language and controversial subject matter, I highly recommend Disciple. It's my personal favorite Slayer song.

Fun fact, while that video is heavily edited for MTV. When they told the crowd they were going to lipsink. The crowd booed so lould they did it live. So what you saw was Slayer live. Kind of.

I have a similar story to the story you told in the beginning of the video. As I wore band shirts my whole life since my early teens (I'm 42 now). I am the "black sheep" of the family and always have been. Most of my life I have been judged for every thing I do and like. I haven't change anything about me as a result. I am me and that's the way it is. I was never close to my family or my grandparents but I loved them anyway and probably so them loving me the same. Well, my two grandmothers were pretty much polar opposites of each other. One was artistic, talkative and funny and the other one was quiet, reserved and soft spoken. I loved them both for who they were but I was never really close to them. I lived in my own world basically. One day I happened to be in the same room as the more quiet, reserved grandma was in and I had on a Pantera shirt with a scull and crossbones with fire an random symbols throughout the design. Pantera was and still is one of my favorite bands. She seen the shirt I was wearing and said. "That shirt is so pretty". Lol. I almost didn't know what to say but it meant a lot to me so I said thank you and kinda laughed as I looked down to see if I in fact still had my Pantera shirt still on. Fast forward to her passing (8 years later) I wore a Pantera shirt under my black button up shirt to her funeral and as I was putting on the shirt I said "love you grandma and thank you for liking my shirt". Right when you started the beginning story of this video I had a tear come out almost immediately which I noticed "Granny Haze" was a little choked up too and couldn't even get out the "subscribe and like the video" line as you both do together in every video. You guys remind me of my parents and my grandparents in a lot of ways and it's just nice to see you two like some of the music that I grew up with. I also blessed my parents with mediocre guitar playing as loud as it would go by the way. So I'm sure I was a joy to be around. Lol. -Daniel /Wichita, Ks. ✌😎🤘
