Sold during Barrett-Jackson’s 34th Annual Scottsdale Auction, this 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 GM Concept Car created a bidding war that soared well past the million-dollar milestone. What was later described as “the most emotional 10 minutes of automotive television in recent history,” the Olds set a new auction record: $3.3 million - becoming the highest-selling car ever at Barrett-Jackson at that time.

I remember watching this live when I was like 10 or 11. I would watch Barrett Jackson beginning to end, religiously. And lead to my endless knowledge of old cars lol

I remember watching this when it happened it was a defining moment. That day I decided that one day I will buy a car at this auction. These days I watch with my kids and we are planning in the not too distant future to attend and buy a car at the auction.

I saw this live at home . It truly was a defining moment in the history of collecting cars . Personally I think the call was worth it it's in a museum where it should be . But this truly changed everything . Then Ron Pratt bought Shelby's personal cobra . For 5 million . An lost money when he resold it . Which should not have happened . Because the car is worth it . Because of his history . These classic because will always be worth a lot of money . Not because they were so well-built . Because of the time they were built in . Was magical . The manufactures today will never understand the love people have for these cars . The federal government should never got in the automotive business . What they produce today is pretty much garbage . By that I mean none of them are movie stars like these cars are .... To add insult this shoving the Tessler down your throat . They want you to buy an electric car which will double your electric bill . But seriously we have no grid that will support them .

G.M balked at Oldsmobile's request for an F body car (Camaro/Firebird) that was introduced in 1967. Some say the reason for the Olds W43 -455 with 4 valves per cylinder and over 700 HP was cancelled by G.M at Chevrolet's insistence .

My prescription drug plan went from $26 a month to almost $80. Every time I try and use it, I've learned that the company found a NEW way to not pay anything at all. GOD BLESS. And for the naysayers, I don't drink, never ever smoked a cigarette, nor am I overweight. Not even close.

I saw this car offered for sale in Danville California in 1995 fully restored the asking price was $275,000 I tried to put together a group the people to purchase the car as a limited partnership. But could not convince enough people the car was worth the investment. They should have listened to me..

So very sad Oldsmobile and Pontiac have been axed by GM, at one time big cash cows for GM, Buick is almost dead, kept alive only in China, GM today is just a shadow of its former glorious past, the once dominant car manufacturer of the world 🌎🌍😭😭😭

Oldsmobile "jealous" of the Corvette? Olds and Chevy are both GM so a company being jealous of their own car doesn't even make any sense. Sometimes I think these guys don't know what they're talking about.

Actually this was before Chevrolet put out the Corvette, and had a bigger engine (Rocket 88) 250hp / 100 more horsepower the first year vette Blue flame, so the Corvette is actually a later cousin of the Concept
