i take my 89 5vz swapped 4runner off roading for the first time along with some coworkers from Donut Media. whos rig will fails first? Justins Tundra? Deans lifted Outback? or my 33yo rig?

dont fear the drums (tho maybe give them a refresh if they're old). if you want to improve your brakes, you can replace the master cyl to one from an fj80, get a later model dual diaphragm booster, v6 calipers, and vented rotors. its a common upgrade. If you raise your rig youll also want to raise the LSPVs attachment to the rear axle the same amount as your lift to keep the brake bias from changing. Some people delete the LSPV but I think it's a nice feature and opted to keep it on mine. def do a rear locker when you can afford it, makes a world of difference.
