Europes legislation makes these impossible. These have to be registered as moped cars and they are limited to 45 km/h. So no one would buy those. Citroen Ami for example, if it would go like 100 km/h it would sell 100x more.

THIS. This is the EV I would buy. Perfect for city traffic, decent range with the bigger battery, simple to park and live with, and no unnecessary spec. Wasn't there talk of some company in Central Europe which was in talks of manufacturing a version of this car for Europe? I imagine that legislation will ruin it, though since bigger cars make this car more dangerous to be in than it actually is. We'd be better off banning SUVs and creating incentives for small, space-efficient alternatives to big cars. Small cars are only really less safe compared to bigger cars BECAUSE of bigger cars. Except for at speeds no cars are really safe at anyway. EDIT: Well, I found it. Only available in Lithuania, and twice the price with better range but somehow much less appealing. So, like I thought, they ruined the point of it by making it a lot more expensive with more features aimed to improve "safety".

The price along with the range (especially with the bigger battery) makes the Wuling Mini EV a much better prospect the a Citroen Ami, which has been severely hampered by the 28mph top speed in order to make it legal for teenagers to drive (from 14 I believe). Having a 62mph top speed makes it viable outwith the urban environment where the Ami just isn't. I'd certainly consider one if they bring them to the UK (and keep the price low)

For some it's space, for others it's the joy of literally looking down on everyone, for others it's accessibility. All of these can be appealed to. Absolutely, it'd be a brilliant learner drive, & later if they get the itch to mod the interior it'd be a doddle to spruce it up with a thin semi-rigid foam backing & covered with vinyl, imitation carbon fibre, or fabric. Maybe some custom wood veneer panels to give it some real flair. The thing with plastic is that if you screw up, it's never going to be a nightmare, as fillers & plastic are readily available in hardware stores. Even modding the exterior would be fun, the boxy shape of the panels are probably paper-thin so not adding much to the rigidity & easily be disguised by knocking up custom fibreglass panels. 👍

The reality is that this is a far east city car designed to go grab the groceries from the local supermarket not cruise the interstate like Mad Max. Wuling smartly made this car very easy to accessorize, especially targetting gen Z female Chinese customers, who put giant anime decals outside and all sorts of ornaments inside. Wuling Hongguang MINI EV car does not highly rely on charging piles, it can be charged directly with the 220V three-plug power supply of the ordinary household grounding wire. It takes about 6 hours to 9 hours to charge. There is a macaron version that looks more cute

I'm considering buying one. Then I look at my old lancer. It's free, because I bought it 5 years ago for $1500. It has a top speed of 210kph. It has a range of 650km. It refuels everywhere in 1 minute. It accelerates well. Can seat 5 while still having the fairly big boot free. It's reliable. Cheap to repair. Trusted brand. Known element. not expensive on fuel. Very nice, uncomplicated video for a nice, uncomplicated car. This is exactly the kind of car (even if not an EV) that urban mobility needs…..small, easy to get around in and park, just enough space for short city trips (even with 4), or the quick grocery run. I love its practicality and simplicity. Being an EV is icing on the cake, and its got a very respectable range, efficiency and driving speed. Love that it’s “old school with electric”…..key, handbrake, actual buttons…. Looks cheerful too ! Would buy this in a heartbeat if it were available here !

Looks well built and the styling and interior design is spot on. Like the orange accent. I'd have one as a daily commuter, shopping and general round town. Hopefully they might make them in RHD too. The real issue with any car is your respective countries Government tax and safety laws (ncap, ancap, DOT etc) and sales tax etc. These are enough to kill off importing many small efficient cars. 'Politics is the art of looking for a problem where none exists, and applying the wrong remedy' quote from the late Sir Robert Muldoon, NZ Prime Minister. I'm sure this is universally true.

Still beats the dismal crap that was the Yugo 45 back in the day. Somehow, I strongly suspect the UK government won’t let these delightfully cheap EVs be sold in the UK. Sometimes, due to their anti-motorist policies, I strongly suspect they want most of us off the road and either on expensive cattle class public transport, on bicycles in all weather (most dangerous and impractical for too many of us), or just walking in the gutters to work and back, while being splashed by expensive rich limousines in rainy weather. They probably declare this vehicle unsafe, ban it, and introduce an identical concept for £15,000 and force users to rent the battery. Or they’ll make these the new “Boris Bikes” and charge you £0.75 to £1.00 per mile to hire one. Methinks they definitely want to cancel the individual vehicle ownership model for the masses. By 2025, they’ll probably have pay per mile driving introduced “to reduce congestion”, inside the entire M25. Most of us driving right now won’t be able to afford it 😢

I have a small companymy. My employees and I drive around the city a lot during the day. I would love to change all my company cars which were all produced from 1996 to 1999 ( I chose them because they use almost no fuel the biggest engine in my fleet is 1.0l) to this little cute thing. It would be such an upgrade! Air con, electric windows, no parking fee (where I live elecric cars don't pay for parking), parking sensors and zero paperwork connected to buying fuel. The long term goal is to replace that gas car with a long range EV like a Tesla, but in the mean time buy a micro car ev to save up money for the real car. If you live in a city and don't drive much a micro car might be all you need, but if you live way from the city a long range EV is needed.

Small cars are not fit for most of the driving in US.

None of those have been cheap enough. I think that for a small electric car to have a chance in the US it will need to have a street price (including any tax incentives it is eligible for) of $10,000 or less. This thing might be able to make it to that price point even after the upgrades that would be needed to make it US street-legal, such as upgraded bumpers, and it's pretty much a certainty that only the larger battery would be offered here. It would presumably qualify for the federal tax credit, but not the full $7,500 because of the modest size of its battery. Another consideration is that in most US cities, a car has to be able to reach at least 50 mph comfortably to be practical. Often the best driving route from point A to point B involves taking a highway; the alternate routes are likely to be MUCH worse, doubling the length of your trip and subjecting you to stop and go traffic. And there there is the fact that most US cities have been hollowed out somewhat; you have to drive out to the suburbs for some goods and services, so you need a car that will work for those trips.

@ I live in a US major city and almost never take the highway. My Leaf is lucky to see 45mph on a good traffic day. Still a top speed of 50 would make it more attractive to most buyers. I think, in the US, aiming it at the 16-24 crowd would be the best bet. Or...parents for the 16-18 crowd anyway. Maybe the lower speed would keep them from driving like idiots

The interior is well designed and light and airy compared with the Ami. Ami appears to be like a black dungeon inside. The controls are centralised, whereas they are all over the place in the Ami. The starting price is half that for the Ami. The quoted range wiith the 13Kwh battery is 4 times that of the Ami. The Ami has no crash protection having a sub 30 Mph top speed. I presume that this vehicle is considered to be a car (Because of the top speed) and will therefore have to meet the UK Tyoe Approval regulations, whereas the Ami, being a quadra cycle only has to meet the requirements for a motorised cycle ? Also, i presume that this car will in all likelihood, if it is imported to the UK, only be allowed to be driven by someone with a full car driving licence whereas the Ami will require only a motor-cycle licence ? I wonder what the 0-30 mph time is one-up and the motor horse power rating is ? As it appears to be weighter than thr Ami , I wonder how it keeps up with city traffic, particularly on acceleration ? i presume the body shell is plastic. I wonder how resilent and capable the body shell and suspension would be in dealing with pot-holed, poorly maintained British roads . .a bit different from driving around the newly made suburbs and roads of new Shanghai ? That said, I believe that the Ami is of this week being imported to the UK, so, I take -it that the Ami has obtained Type Approval for a quadra cycle whatever that amounts to Apart from the air bag, I take it that there is no safety shell protection - that' s needed when the car is capable of anything over 30 Mph and when it will be sharing roadspace with heavier cars, vans and lorries driving at speed on main roads and spending a short periods on motorways. I wonder how they implement the mentioned "Air conditioning" without incurring the weight penalty of a heavy compressor + condenser + dryer + AC radiator ? Also, compressor based AC usually absorbs ar least 5 horse power (7 Kilowatt) of a traditional hydrocarbon powered car engine output. Personally, I would ditch the interior plastics for vinyl covered laminated cardboard - much cheapness and weight saving. Make these fittings modular, so that even if they get damaged in normal use they can easily and cheaply replaced by the user.
