3.5 Years before an oil change - Leybold vacuum pump and 3 Harvest Right Freeze Dryers!

Yep, it's been 3.5 years before I changed the oil for the first time!
We sell this Leybold pump, and a special relay control system to power it. It is a serious industrial pump, for serious industrial applications or where you want extreme reliability. It can't be powered directly from an HR freeze dryer without an external relay control system since it requires more power than a stock Harvest Right can provide. But with the external relay control system, several freeze dryers can control the same pump. More on this in an upcoming video.

I've been working in the semiconductor industry for almost 30 years and Leybold vacuum pump have been a industry standard even before I was in the industry. They make some good Helium leak checkers also. These pumps are designed to run for hours on end nonstop. Quite an investment but I'm sure they really get the job done and do it well. I've actually considered something of the sort also but just looking around for now at something like an industrial type of pump since I recently bought another harvest right oil pump from B&D in Meridian Idaho. The scroll pump or the dry pump that harvest right sales I'm not to sure about. We seem to have trouble with the tip seal on some scroll pumps at work and that has somewhat made me re-think about going to a dry pump design. Look forward to the next video on this Leybold pump. Really cool.

Not too bad for 3.5 years of operation, I've seen worse working in the refrigeration field. If my memory serves me correctly, the vacuum pumps used in the "consumer" side of things really can't handle the duty cycle when you put it to its paces. Curious to know what the total number of hours it was put through. Keeping the contaminants out of the oil is quite challenging alright and making the routine maintenance part relatively straightforward is the most complicated part. At least dare I say it? It didn't suck too badly. :-P

Where can we get that pump? And how do you have it manage 3 freeze dryers? Do you have to be there when the pump needs kicked on for each machine?
