I read through a lot of the comments and maybe I can address some of the reasonable questions or comments. In regards to water supply. Anyone who has followed Chief Curt Isakson knows that the Chief uses the term "People before water". That alludes to having two engine companies respond directly into the scene putting two companies of firefighters in position to stretch an initial attack line and conduct a primary search (1,400 gallons of water available from the booster tanks). The 3rd due company would be responsible to lay from a hydrant. Again, one concept that works for single family dwelling fires with sufficient resources responding. Interior firefighting was initiated by the first due companies with two lines in operation. Fire had control of the attic space and access to the fire was blocked by attic floor decking and other confined spaces. As one of the comments stated, hose stream can be seen emanating from the attic space and fire was being knocked down. Members standing in front of the building were RIT members and companies waiting to move up to relieve firefighters already inside. In regards to RIT, take not of the numerous ground ladders placed around the structure. Regarding the fire hydrant locations. Years ago when these developments were built the hydrant placement was 1,000 feet apart as the crow flies. This has caused a lot of frustration over the years but we have to deal with the sins of our fathers. Because of this spacing hydrants may not be observable by incoming companies. Dispatch has GPS hydrant locations on the CAD. Currently new developments require hydrant spacing every 500 feet. As a senior member of the department I have no problem calling out issues that need to be addressed to better future operations. This fire, however, is not one of them, My hats off to the commanders, Officers, Members and dispatcher for a job well done. Obviously, the Chief's will have a critique and talk about things that went well and things that need improvement, that's how we better our departments and our future operations. This page provides us a service by being able to view our operations from an outside perspective. Some operations go well and others not so well. A professional department, whether Career or Volunteer, will use this media to make improvements. All of us would be better served if comments were geared toward asking logical and intelligent questions and discussing observations to better our beloved service.

Well said brother. A lot of KZbin can be noise and some fires just happen to be difficult no matter how well a crew performs their individual tasks. With out seeing the attic space and how it is divided it is clear the access to the attic space was tough. A lot of fire departments on KZbin can be easy to decipher when a department drops the ball but this does not appear to be one of them.

Wow, this is a shock to watch! My brother was looking up houses where we grew up and to come across this. He lived in this house and i was born in it(1982). This address is on my birth certificate 😮. I know we have some pics of the house before the addition was added on, too.

It can be difficult for many volunteer fire companies to get out on early morning working fires since many members are going to work. These guys seem to have a great membership who turned out for the call. Probably should have pulled the second alarm earlier especially when dispatch suggested it. Setting up a tower ladder on someone’s lawn is a little different😀. Great video!!

I watch a ton of fire response videos and it has made me so aware of my own homes fire risks! I have gone out and bought more smoke alarms, the house was definitely lacking. I have also purchased more extinguishers and bigger ones as well. My home and area has no fire hydrant and the fire department is an all volunteer house. They do have two big tanker trucks and a ladder, I just hope that I never have to see them in action on my house! Thank you for posting these videos without them I probably wouldn’t be as fire aware as I am! Thanks

One of the most important things i have learned in watching these videos is how the various units are assigned by the person in command. No fire would be successfully fought, including rescues of people trapped, if everybody is doing there own thing. God Bless and keep these beyond brave men and women who get paid way to little to save lives and property... many times due to foolishness of the property/business owners.

I got nothing good to say he let that girl sit outside in her bra and panties and no shoes then her professor gives her zeros for her college and it burnt up in that fire and they did not know what to do I am really perturbed about the fireman that was really stupid the way they acted you got 35 fire trucks on the scene in about a thousand fireman well I talked to my achieving a fire department of Paris in New Jersey and they did a lot wrong yeah they get out of bed 5:00 in the morning that's her job just like my job was with the police and also my captain of fire department at Patterson New Jersey and he thinks a lot of stuff was wrong it's a shame that a girl has to sleep at my house now my son's girlfriend having a 7,000 square foot home then she gets zeros by the professor on her test that wouldn't happen to me haven't smack that professor right in his mouth and burn everything up in a fire and you get zero that makes a lot of sense that girl is messed my son asked my wife if we could take her in she said to my son you have to ask your dad I said yes . I don't even know this girl's name because she goes in the side door which I built for my dog on his side of the room she goes up onto the deck and he opens the door but I hear the alarm go off every time that door opens she left out Friday morning 2:00 in the morning going home to sleep and her house goes in flames and we donate a lot to the fire departments here in Silverton and they went out first I heard those alarms go off I had my French glass door open and those alarms are loud and I was wondering whose house is on fire this early in the morning they're going every witch Way I live next to apartment right across the street for Silverton I heard him go out and that's only one mile from my house I did not know where she lived I did not know her name my wife didn't even know her but she came over every day pract he opened the door bar I hear the chime going on the door tell the bedroom opens up and she left out and then 2:00 in the mornings I was watching TV but it's a shame that they couldn't hook nothing up right so her dad's house will have to be rebuilt from scratch I don't even know why I didn't turn the gas off right away I don't know what the 🔥 fire department was thinking of. At least they got everybody out of the house cats the dogs and the people nobody was hurt thank God. everybody out of the house. Where nobody got hurt her cats we're fine and dogs and dogs all fine. I know she is devastating bad and her sister. And I donate a lot to Silverton fire department that is my fire department and they put out fires quicker than that the winds were bad that night they were howling up here. And they're going to start working on my house because ian hit it good again 400,000 damage I have USAA they've been here and they've got the builders ready to go on Saturday I have to go over everything again with. The the builder and USAA go over everything that was damaged and also lost property from water leaking everywhere... Sandy finally in court fix the house and I got to do it all over just like a fire. everything out again I wish they could keep these hurricanes away I lost a lot of friends houses in fort Myers and they think it's going to be done in a year no our boardwalk didn't even done yet and it probably will never get done seaside heights New Jersey. I guess it got done one time they did a good job and I was in the ocean fishing about 80 miles offshore with my boat for tuna fish and go shark fishing for mako shark and somebody said the fire started again seaside and some a****** turned the switch on in an ice cream shop and had do not flip this switch and somebody turned it on ignite the fire all over again but more being turned on there was signs do not flip this switch but I can see the fire all the way out 80 miles off seaside heights manasquan New Jersey. The boardwalk will never be the same I don't think they're going to build it. After hurricane Sandy came through they wrecked everybody's house took five cars of mine including a ZR1 Corvette 4 motorcycles in my garage five cars two boats a house. And my house 🏠 2 million.5. this time I'm putting an elevator in three stories high they made us raise it way up and they're going to have to do that to fort Myers too I know Stephen Clark very well CBS newscaster and he's taking up donations to have pop rock singers out there on the beach to relax people because music relax and he's a great singer songwriter many more people like him he just was in Tennessee and they love him his music is great Stephen Clark anybody is very good music and he goes around showing everybody what they've done you can't get money from the stupid government correctly FEMA don't pay me correctly neither I put out over $300,000 out of my pocket finally to fix my house and the builder walked off my job I like to knock the hell out of him and he will get his don't worry he's going to mess with the wrong person and then just going to knock him out never use Mandalay builders or for lifting a house don't ever use dingy lifters Cambridge Ohio I got them good they dropped my House . I was having a stole a lot of stuff out of my house garage tools are gone I had to call the police three times to keep them out and then they saw him on my ground they were going to arrest them immediately and they were watching my house after it was broken into also doing looting knocking them out and throwing them in the ocean the military they were not playing games. I didn't work for the Navy so I know they don't play games the national guard was trying to protect our property from looting they were stealing Ferraris Lamborghinis Corvettes letting them to the checkpoint before the military came in on tow trucks when they came in that came to a halt but in the meantime all they were doing was looting in home everywhere they probably got a lot of jewelry and people stole everything I feel bad for her losing her house I feel bad for fort Myers they will rebuild but it's going to take a long time not one year they know that's hard to be done in one year working on about 9 years and they're still not done I know they'll get my house done with USAA very quick once they start it it'll be done they told me it's going to be fast and done I had State farm at the time terrible and switched over to USAA because I know people that had their house done quick checks were handed out password cars no argument they took care of everybody and they're taking care of me now I told him you get Paul Davis or whoever and they're one big company I said I'm using your company and I don't want to see one check pay your company directly who you are using and they chose Paul Davis he's been here and went through the whole house and you said you got about 400,000 damage so they're supposed to meet again Saturday they're coming to go over everything again that has to be ripped out of here for the second time Sandy was first now Ian then I got my houses in Ohio and they got hit by a tornado so we're dealing with that too all I can tell you is God is mad at our country. Because I ain't died three times I'm going to come back to life and he talked to me once and sent me home had three and there is a Jesus don't get yourself the angels are a thousand feet high and they stopped me on the line he yelled at strawberry there would not let me go forward only home. I saw my grandmother right at the line and a thousand foot Angel was jumping down to get me to take me over the line in a big bright light went on top right there you have to turn around and go home I'mma like the wall up my arms access so you can find your way home I will call on you shortly when I'm ready I'm not ready for you right now and I woke up four weeks later from my motorcycle Rick from me bad motorcycle drunk driver ran me off the road and all I can say is thanks to Steven Swartz from toms River Police nj saved my life. Looks like a great job by command. The ladder tower doesn't spray water while firefighters are inside attempting to extinguish the fire because the water will push the fire down on top of the interior f/f 's causing burns, steam burns or possible collapse on top of them. If you listen they removed the interior f/f 's before charging the ladder pipe. As for people standing around they are possible in rehab. After being inside on a fire like this you are whooped after about 10-15 minutes and need a break to rehab that's why the call a second and third alarm for extra personnel to rotate crews. In my opinion after 32 years doing this I think they did a great job

I've already watched a few videos about these operations and it's the same every time. 1. The firefighters arrive and begin to get dressed at the scene. In Germany it is normal for firefighters to do this during the journey and arrive at the scene ready for action. 2. They fight with their hoses. These are rolled up and of course have to be completely unwound before they can be put under pressure. Here these are always too long, lying criss-cross and always on top of each other and blocking each other. 3. They already have water, but it still takes 5-10 minutes before someone starts extinguishing it. 4. When someone extinguishes the fire, it is often completely haphazard, standing somewhere on the wall of the house and stupidly spraying under the canopy instead of where the fire is actually burning.
