Story 1: “I own a cabin back in the woods. It’s a little run down, but I mainly only use it for hunting. One night I got back a little late from my stand and the door was open. My heart sank as I realized someone must be inside…”

This reminds me of something that happened when I was about 14 that I think about a lot. My family lived in a pretty rural area. I'd sometimes just go outside and wander around our property at night; more often than not, no cars would drive down the road the entire time I was out there. One night I was walking behind some evergreens, when a car turned and drove down the gravel road. Almost immediately after it passed me, I saw brake lights. Then it backed up until it was right across from where I had been standing. I dropped to the ground behind a tree where I didn't think I could be seen. The car sat there for 10-15 seconds before continuing down the road, and I ran inside, relieved that they didn't see me. It was terrifying for me. I hid any time I saw a car at night for a long time after that. But as an adult, I realize that it was probably a neighbor who saw a man (I was tall as a teenager) walking around our yard at nearly midnight. They weren't a threat to me; they were trying to protect my family.

Awoke once in the middle of the night, it had been very cold and snowing. There was a man outside. We told him to leave, he claims he was looking for someone. We live away from town and to come out that far, in the cold, on foot to look for someone when we have lived here years was terrifying. He left when he knew we were armed. The adrenaline kept me up until the afternoon.

It’s even creepier when you realize these are just the stories of people who actually survived harrowing experiences. Awful to imagine the stories of the people who didn’t escape!

In the second story, I think it was the owner that was creeping around, trying to see some action maybe, or maybe something more nefarious. He wasn't answering texts and didn't try to call - not till later in the morning. Maybe because he was busy being a creeper. Idk - it's a possibility. Third story: You'd be surprised by how some people live, out of necessity sometimes. He *could've* been squatting there. Scary stories. 😱
