@@normalguysupercar Get the MSD6AL2 programmable, part number 6530 "programmable is the key i'm sure you can appreciate that part of it. Its not some MSD box like you've seen before on muscle cars or whatever. That specific box will make you able to modify the ignition curve so it doesn't bang so hard when you put it drive and of course tailor the way it cruise. cleaner more efficient burn etc. Its is worth it. Take care Dan

Try going DOWNHILL to see if it picks up an extra 2-3 mph! Or try Googling "choosing the right prop for your boat"?

This may have been mentioned in the video, if so, I apologize…. When you are at top speed start to slowly trim the motor up (you will go faster), if you start to porpoise you are at the limit and obviously need to trim down a hair. I was on a mission for top speed on my boat…this made a large difference.

I've noticed that a 4 blade is faster if you have a high pitch blade. 3 blade would be faster if a low pitch blade with both being the same pitch.

Aside from having a spare prop on board, you'd better have the relevant spare nuts, washers AND THE RIGHT SOCKET available too - because if the prop EVER ACTUALLY comes off, the nut etc will be LONG GONE!!!

Yes I put all that stuff in a bag with the prop

Hey put everything I wrote aside for a moment. Just saw the bit where you mention that you run 4600 rpm and ran the numbers through a calculator. The numbers does not add up. I suspect that you might have a faulty gps or tach. 4600 and 65 mph is 6% prop slip, and that's abnormally low for that hull with a 3 blade. Just curious, but what brand and model of prop is the 4 blade? Is the 68 mph at 4600 too? Because if that's the case, that's not odd, that's impossible. If you can verify your speed on mkre than one GPS, there's an issue you need to address. 68 on that boat with a 24" prop would spin around 5000 rpm and have about 10% prop slip. 4600 rpm and 68 mph is 2.4%, and that is impossible. Perhaps check your 4 blade and see if pitch is stamped anywhere? Or check if your drive for some odd reason has 1.36 gears? If the gears are 1.36, then it all adds up perfectly, however 1.36 gears are pretty unusual for this combo. The gearing is stamped on the port upper side decal of the drive.

A piece of advice for you "gentlemen" when blasting on a boat - you have already discovered the risk of back pain when crossing a wake at speed, but it can get A LOT worse! If you're sat down, as opposed to standing up, with your knees apart as you cross a wake or other small waves, your unsupported nuts can actually hit the seat squab with such speed & force it feels EXACTLY like you've just been kicked in the balls!!! Yes, I know from bitter experience crossing a 6 inch wake at 60+mph!! NOT FUN!!!

Dan, I hope you ran your boat’s specs with a prop shop before buying the 3 blade. The best prop shops not only have the empirical knowledge but the proper software. Don’t do the “guess work” yourself. The prop shop can run all the scenarios by pitch, slip, etc and prevent cavitation issues…Yep, fix and keep the old prop for emergencies….btw I am American Boat and Yacht Council Certified…boat safely…
