Things to concider. Quality attractant thats water based such as proline and procure. Proline has shad, herring, nightcrawler, creyfish and frog. Procure has shrimp, eel shrimp, trout and bloodworm. All quality attractant to have in your arsinal. Along with current wind and environmental trends with varying retrieve speeds and pauses. Key factors to catch fish. A quality attractant is ideal to have to draw fish, yes especially for night fishing 😊

Notice you fish it pretty high in the water column, start cranking immediately after it hits from the cast. do you think that’s preferable over letting it sink on the cast and retrieve it along the bottom, working it up & down as you go?
@BassFishingHQ4 жыл бұрын
The Dawsonian I think it all depends on the situation you are fishing. In this video I was fishing in a foot or two of water so I was starting my retrieve right away. There have been times where I have fished clear water and have basically slow rolled it across the bottom and caught them doing that. I have also fished Hydrilla before when I work the chatterbait more like a jig through the grass. So it all depends on the situation

Is it better to go straight fluro or a braid with fluro leader .
@biggiesmalljaws2 жыл бұрын
Depends on what cover and water clarity you are fishing. I run straight braid in heavily stained water fishing cattails in the Spring and transition to straight fluoro as the grass starts cleaning the water and turning it clear.
@nathanramee7932 жыл бұрын
Great tips; super helpful. Thank you! My question is why trim the plastic bait?(Whether with scissors or teeth.)
@lukechristopher88242 жыл бұрын
He's probably wanting a little smaller profile to match the size of his chatterbait
@davidmerrill13192 жыл бұрын
And too much trailer gets them further away from the hook point. Nipping at the tail.

so it doesn’t effect the profile of the jig itself.

That is some muddy water! Did u get a lot of rain before you shot this? Also, do you have any tips on tuning the blade of a chatterbait?
@BassFishingHQ4 жыл бұрын
John Schauder yes it had rained quite a bit when I shot this video. When it comes to tuning the blade I really haven’t experienced a time where I needed to tune the blade, especially when using a higher end lure like the jack hammer. As long as your trailer is threaded on straight, the chatterbait should run properly
@johnschauder4 жыл бұрын
BassFishingHQ really? That is interesting because the jack hammer is the one that I want to mess with. I was using one this past weekend and it just didn’t seem to vibrate as hard as other chatterbaits. I want to mess with the metal blade… But I don’t know which way to go with it.

Love your chatter bait videos. I have learned a lot from you. I’m looking for a chatter bait rod. There quite honestly is so much info out there. I plan on throwing mainly 1/2 oz jackhammers and 1/2 oz mini max’s on 15-17# fluoro. I’m so torn between st croix victory 7’2” MH moderate and the victory 7’2” H moderate and the victory 7’2” MH fast moderate (side note I have a mojo bass 7’ MH fast moderate already and it seams parabolic enough, but the tip doesn’t feel as soft as I would like it, but the victory in the matching specs is what I keep coming back to but I don’t want the same rod I already have cuz I don’t think I like it for chatter baits which is what it would mainly be used for. Along with square bills and rapala DT6’s. So if you see this please help I need some guidance. Thank you in advance.
@RyanSmith-fb8rf Жыл бұрын
Jon Hitola, I think I can help you out with this question. I’m not Tyler obviously but I do tournament fish and guide down in Florida. I have used just about every chatter bait rod out there whether it be glass, composite or graphite. I used the 7’1MHf Victory and it was probably my favorite rod for fishing chatter baits in heavy hydrilla. If you aren’t fishing heavy cover go with the 7’2 mh mod fast victory. I went to a composite rod and glass rods but I couldn’t get my baits to clean off fishing heavy cover so I’m back to using the 7’1MHF victory rod and I love it. Hopefully that helps you out some. The Victory line isn’t as stiff as the Mojo bass line and it’s a little slower action compared to the Mojo bass rods. The Victory is more parabolic. It’s a great chatter bait rod if you don’t prefer a composite rod and the guides are conventional sizes if running braid to leader connection knots
