I've only caught two: a decent pike (my first fish of 2024) on a 3/8 oz in tan with a tan and orange craw, hopping it like a jig, and close to a 5 lb bass on another 3/8 in solid white with a paddle tail trailer. Just two three entire year, but I had to have caught over a hundred on a Texas rig, and they eat spinner baits like candy.

Went fishing in colorado today. Our bass here are lackluster unless you're fishing near the southern border. Totally boring day, stained water, clear weather, but we werent catching anything except a baby largemouth and a few blue gills, despite fishing top water all morning while watching them top feed on bugs and schools of baitfish. Just when all hope seemed lost, I decided if anything was gonna catch them it needed to make a racket. Busted out my white Jackhammer and trolled it near some vegetation. Caught two 3-3.5 pound largemouth right around 1 PM, which are very nice bass by colorado standards. It was the first time I fished the jackhammer but you can certainly tell it makes a thump going through the water.
@smoothcastingwithsmoothie99174 жыл бұрын
I have utilized the chatterbait for about 4-6 weeks now and I coincidentally have a black and blue, blue gill type and a white chartreuse. The black and blue has helped me catch 1-5 fish each time I tie it on. They have been very productive for me down here in Texas. I feel I have to mention that I use the Zman brand and I don't buy the Zman jack hammer style that's $15-20. I need budget friendly during these hard times, so I just get the 1st edition or standard for $4-5. The more expensive lures do have benefits like extra wire bait holder, painted blades and stronger hook type but some things I do to maintain my less expensive lures is hone the hook before each time I begin to use it, take permanent marker to color the blades and last but not least a very small dab of super glue at the bait holder to help it stay on. I have used those same chatterbait for those 4-6 weeks. Sorry for the lengthily comment Tyler but I thought it may help new users so they don't get sticker shock when they look into buying some.
@TylersReelFishing4 жыл бұрын
For sure some great insights!
@thestime3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. It's hard enough to lose a 4-5$ one much less a 15-20$ one. Shore fishing doesn't help the matter. Lost one last year and decided to almost give up on them. I'm going to give them another shot after watching videos with good tips. Thanks for your tips and good fishing to you my friend!!
@hanburgundy43178 күн бұрын
Why color the blades, though? I've had bass pick up a spinner bait just sitting on bottom in the water next to me - was checking my phone and it almost pulled my rod in the lake 😂 - because of the flash.

I’m a west central Illinois pond angler, and the chatterbait is by far my biggest confidence bait. Doesn’t matter what size, what color, what clarity, what conditions. If I go fishing with a chatterbait I know I’ll catch a fish and often catch ten or more.
@Everything_Andy2 жыл бұрын
I think this may jigs as a whole but idk. But when would you use a black and blue jig(chatterbait, flipping/pitching jig, swim jig,etc.) with a white trailer? I have a black and blue zman original in 3/8oz and I'm still really new to jigs as a whole and wanted to know when you would choose a white trailer for black and blue jigs? And then a different color for green pumpkin jigs and white.
@TylersReelFishing2 жыл бұрын
I would never mix white with black and blue

I can see the value to both sides here. Honestly IMO (just mine probably not what most feel) I prefer the public lake videos. This video almost felt like the fish were so plentiful you couldn't really get into detail in each retrieve because bass were coming out of the woodwork to eat that thing. I think some fish catching during explanation but some just full "unsuccessful" casts make for the best videos. Congrats though on picking up a sponsor though, certainly not going to be bitter about anybody's success in that regard.

I've fished both back to back, chatterbait to the thunder cricket, different lakes, conditions and chatterbait out preformed the thunder cricket 100%! I mean I have yet to catch a bass on the thunder cricket. The vibration doesn't vibrate enough to catch bass like the Zman chatterbait. The Evergreen Chatterbait is a beast of it's own! I've talked to others and their results are the same. I am glad that you had success with em!

You guys should also occasionally let that chatterbait free fall. That gives it more action and helps get reaction strikes.. you have a swimbait on there and that also gives you a reason pause, freefall then keep burning it in. The blade catches water and helps float it down.

Hey tyler, I live by a pretty small lake in Texas about 250 acres. It’s heavily fished especially from the bank. It’s a really weird lake. Fish don’t hit your lure. They all typically just pick it up and swim with it. They aren’t aggressive at all. If you power fish you won’t can’t anything all day. You have to finesse fish. This summer I’ve been using strike king z-too ice and getting a lot of fish. Even a 6.8 a week ago. It’s been in the 50’s the past 4-5 nights so the fish aren’t biting. Ive fished everywhere on the lake and can’t get anything. I’ve tried to use more reaction type lures like you talk about in your fall transition video but I’ve yet to get a bite on a chatter bait, spinner bait, crank baits. What do you recommend for this fall transition on a lake where the fish only like slow finesse?

It’s the Anglr Bullseye! Pretty cool deal for pre-fishing/breaking down water but even better for actually fishing. The Anglr app is basically a digital logbook that allows you to drop waypoints and saves all sorts of data about each fish catch that you can come back in later and view or edit. Stuff like wind speed and direction, air temp, barometric pressure, etc. The app is free but they offer add-ons like the Bullseye that just make it a lot easier to use. That’s the little thing on my hat in the video. It’s like 30 bucks but you can bluetooth link it to your phone and that way each time you catch a fish you just hit the Bullseye and it logs all that stuff without having to take your phone out each time. People compare ANGLR to Fishbrain, but it’s much more helpful at making you a better angler than Fishbrain

@TylersReelFishing How often if any do you get those snagged and stuck? I went out last weekend and along with other things, tried this after I bought it. I liked the feel and movement of it but about 5 minutes into using it, it snagged on something and I lost it. I was like, "Are you seriously kidding me right now?.........."

I usually have my rod tip down when I use a chatter baits or a thunder cricket

Lew's TP1 medium-heavy moderate action is the best rod for the job. It's listed as a "crankback" rod. Definitely too heavy for most crankbaits I throw, but I found its PERFECT for Chatterbaits.

It’s a great rod for sure, I just don’t like how long the butt is on it

@@TylersReelFishing just revisiting this because the more I used the rod, the more I noticed the butt did get in the way, especially when target casting. Trying out a few others right now.

Kinda late but I prefer to throw spinner baits on it, I like a slightly softer tip on my chatterbaits
