I started with micropore medical tape to close my mouth in the 90s learning Buteyko. I've since been using a CPAP machine due to severe sleep apnoea. I stopped focusing on Buteyko breathing, but recently decided to restart 4-minute interval breathing. I am not familiar with the tape you've mentioned, so I will look out for it here. When I first began mouth taping I used the Myotape. I think it seemed safer for someone who had not taped, but I really disliked it. I then bought Somnifix which I love, but don’t love all the unnecessary plastic and paper packaging on a daily basis. Finally, have just been using 1 inch 3M Transpore, there are different types and I like the lightweight slightly stretchy one (green lettering inside roll). To help pop it off fast, I stick my tongue out, wetting it to help it peel right off without yanking on my skin. Use it nightly for years. I also recommend a touch of Tiger Balm (the light one) to the tip of each nostril after clearing the nose, before taping. Breathe Right nasal strips are also nice to enhance good nasal breathing through the night.

I've been using earplugs for the last few years and really liked the feeling of being completely shut off from the outside world. Unfortunately, they have an unpleasant effect. Over time, the earplugs push more and more earwax into the ear canal. So much so that at some point I could hardly hear anything in one ear and had to have the ear cleaned by a doctor. Now I'm back without them

I'm highly sensitive and therefore curious about the effect of mouth-taping on the skin. Doesn't the skin get irritated due to the glue and repeated use? I'm sure the intended effect would be very helpful to me unless it has this side effect on the skin. Thanks for the info!

Hey Kikki2012, great question :). I personally haven't had any problems with the skin getting irritated but I guess it could be an issue if you have sensitive skin. Another option (which i have also used) is to try a small piece of 3m micropore tape across the centre of the lips (leaving a gap on either side) as described in this video with James Nestor (I would do a bit more research before trying this approach): kzbin.info/www/bejne/an_bmmWheciNrpY

@@kikki2012 Yes definately a topic to research. I can recommend James Nestors book. I havent tried self-hypnosis for it. But some clients have found that its enough just to ensure their mouth is closed before they go to sleep.

If they are stress or inflammation related, then yes it's possible that Buteyko breathing exercises can help soothe digestion issues 👍.
