I always love a sound design video, especially with a little music history thrown in for added context 👌. I often question if my sounds are "complex" enough to sound professional, so seeing more simple, old school sounds working so well is a helpful reminder that anything can sound great when used in the right way 👍.
@BthelickАй бұрын
It is a valid concern as the music scene is very different today. With well Over 120,000 tracks released every day something certainly needs to make you stand out! Although the concern can be it's own solution. Look at PAWSA room service, sounds like it's from 1980 but goes off because everyone else is chasing modern 'professional' sound.
@CookSC.Ай бұрын
@@Bthelick It's a bit of a conundrum, isn't it! Ultimately, I know at my amateur level that I won't sound professional yet, so I try not to get too hung up on it, and instead just enjoy the process of creating my own sound, whatever that may be 👍.

In terms of trance, I've heard at recent Porter's stream that to make more authentic lead you should also make unison mono (in vital you can do that in advanced section), bcs this was how JP-8000/8080 produced that sound.

@Bthelick Hey maybe you could help me out. Im trying to figure out the song baby by malugi. Especially the bass. There is this call and response with the stabs. But i dont get the bassline right is it a kind off reese with an filter on it that opens up. Or another bass with some glide on it? or something else? Thanks for your videos and your time :)

thanks. Yes it sounds like a reese with an extra octave in it, or possible an organ layer. the lie is just playing 1 4 and 5 in A but swapping octaves a lot.

@@Bthelick I'll check that out. Basically I'm working on a song and the piano that I'm using just doesn't sound quite right. Like not thick enough or powerful enough. Hard to explain as I'm still trying to learn some of these things, trying to make sure that all of the sounds are quality.

Sound design looks so 'easy' but somehow my sounds always sound meh. Well, according to myself anyway 😂 I also have to admit I probably don't invest enough time into sound design to become really competent at it. I usually just find a preset I like and and tweak it a bit to my liking.
@BthelickАй бұрын
Like all modern music production, executing the operation of the instrument, processor, or daw is easy, the hard part is the ear training in order to guide those actions. Also Sound design is only as good as the sounds surrounding it, no sound is inherently good or bad on it's own , as it will not exist on its own. .

Both. It's a little faster ergonomically, visually much clearer, slightly more flexible in some areas, and no barrier to entry for anyone who wants to learn. Sound wise they are on par, in fact I slightly prefer Vitals default "analog" filter behavior but it's not a deal breaker.

First of all: you are great! I want to ask you something: I watched a video from a different creator and in this video he talks about how important is to have good samples: kick, snares etc... He said the ones in Ableton would not be enough to achieve high quality sound like famous producers. What's your opinion about it? Do you agree? If yes, from where we should take/buy this samples? Thank you!
@BthelickАй бұрын
depends heavily on the genre. I couldn't honestly tell you what comes with Ableton suite these days as my sample library was already well built for so long that I stopped looking, so I honestly can't say what it's capable of on it's own (sounds like a video eh) the way I and most others work in dance music heavily relies on samples , its not a case of "good" or "bad" because that is entirely contextual. it's more a case of options. I would bet ableton simply doesn't have a large enough selection of dance kick drums to have one close enough to many modern references. same with toploops etc. I don't recommend subscriptions for anything else but I personally believe Splice (or loopcloud etc) is such invaluable resource , most sample packs are uploaded to it so imo it's worth the commitment. I use it every day, and it is the only subscription I pay for. and I really do mean "only subscription" as I don't have netflix or anything non-musical either)

Hi Paul , a question on STFU plugin , about the length and Beat parameter . When choosing length 1/4 for example , does it refer to 1/4 of 1 Beat so it is in fact a 1/16 note length selection ? Thank you for your help .

@relaxmax6808Ай бұрын

Lol all good you got close, it's Ben 😂. StFU's length is in beats. It defaults to 1 beat which in musical terms is a quarter note . So yes 4/1 would be a bar (in 4/4 signature) and 1/4 is indeed a 16th
@relaxmax6808Ай бұрын
@@Bthelick Thanks for the confirmation. Ben? Nice! “Who’s Paul?” reminds me of my first English course in college in France as a first foreign language. Certainly the first sentence we learned at the time (in the 80's...). The next part was “where’s Paul?” “He’s in the kitchen”…😂
@relaxmax6808Ай бұрын
@@Bthelick Say Ben, as long as I have you in conversation. In your opinion, are House basses entirely synthetic (FM?) or is it depending on the style? This is a subject on which I would be really interested in you making videos. The sound in relation to electronic styles. I try to compose in Dance but I realize that there are associations that don't really sound. On one song I try to combine 2 basses but it doesn't work 100%. I use the Discovery plugin which is a reproduction of the nord lead for a bass. Maybe it's outdated today for certain styles ??

Noicee! May I ask what version of ableton are you using? I'm almost buying a used live 10 standard, you think that will be enough for me to produce?
@BthelickАй бұрын
This is 11. I have 12 purchased but I always take time to upgrade as I prefer to stay compatible with my clients as we swap sessions a lot. 10 is fine yes. I can't remember what was upgraded other than the rack system. How much is a used 10? Are licenses transferrable? Anything will work, the free Waveform DAW (used to my tracktion) is awesome even , any daw is capable of great things. The only difference between any of them is work flow and online resources.
@rodrigocotta7546Ай бұрын
@Bthelick Thank you! All the licenses are transferrable, yes. I can get it for $90 even tho it's the standard version, so it might be worth it since I can't afford much more than that. I tried all major DAWS trials but I fell in love with Ableton's workflow right away! FL Studio regional pricing is very good here in my country, but I didn't really like the software. Keep it up the good work, you are a gift for this community!
