My father passed away last week. He was a huge fan of your channel. We bonded over knots and the last time we were together he share some of his favorites that you demonstrate. The outdoors was a huge part of our relationship. I am loving your videos. Thank you for doing them.

Hi DJ. Your channel came up in my feed the other day day (because I’m a HUGE fan of bush craft videos) and I’m blown away by your content. Not only is it well edited, crafted and shows the beautiful scenery of Canada, you are an amazing teacher! I watch a lot of bush craft videos because they bring me joy and are relaxing but I’ve never encountered one that educates on things like knot (hitch) tying, tips on how to not injure yourself with your tools and even how to camp with proper equipment and keeping your feet warm!!! Your love and appreciation for nature and passion for what you do resonates through your videos and I’m so happy I found your channel. Many blessings and safety on all of your journeys and experiences moving forward!

Wow thank you so so much for this comment. I’ll definitely continue this style, I don’t care much about people just watching me just do things on cam, I just feel like it’s only worth it if I can help teach or pass on a couple things I’ve learned.

Props from southern Ontario bud🙂👍. Im only 20 min in so far, but I love those values of yours. i find myself carrying more garbage out of the bush than in. Gotta keep those 2 two new buddies house clean while your their guest. Been stuck down here since my 3 year old was born, and just keeping myself busy with day trips and shelter builds. Soon the lil man may be ready for some overnights, but for now its all about foraging and "building forts" in the woods. N.E.S.W Buddy ✌

Great video. Thank you for collecting all that trash, and setting the example. I think you were crazy going into the woods barefoot. 😮. Good demo in the canoe. Your cooking skills are impressive. Having coffee by the lake, sleeping in the woods, in three day getaway, must’ve been an awesome trip. Thanks for posting.

Hi there, really enjoyed your vid and what you're doing. I wanted to tell you that where I live I see owls all the time. This is because I cycle to work and I work shifts so these amazing birds regularly fly in front of me for up to 100 yards. I also love getting firewood in for the home, and I like using my hatchet to split lengths of oak up to 4ft in length into thicknesses that are much easier to saw. I don't drive, and literally carry everything; but the tools do the work. By the way, I live just 8 miles from a city centre. I love my outdoors, and it's so great to see you present yours in such a positive way. Keep it up!

Fun video, and I liked that you took the time to teach on top of everything else. I was wondering though if you prefer the Gransfors splitting axe or the forest axe more for canoe trips?
@TheBearEssentials
@TheBearEssentials Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks so much!! I have a full vid on the axes here comparing all 3 - actually a more in depth comparison than what was on the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r52ciIhrZpJ1odE Honestly I prefer the splitter if weight isn’t a big issue. And most times I go with friends who have a SFA or comparable so the splitter is a great compliment to that!

I always wonder how you guys clean yourself up in those types of videos, like, is the river clean and stuff ? how do you wash stuff properly ? same thing about hydration, what if you run out of water bottles, what happens ?
@TheBearEssentials
@TheBearEssentials Жыл бұрын
Oh, I just jump in the lake to wash. It’s very clean here in Canada. To wash dishes etc there is biodegradable soap. Many parts of Europe and Asia and now north America have plants you can use which produce soap - like Soapwort for example. Ofcourse there are more survival based ways of doing things - depending on the level of trip you would like to take. Glamping, Car camping, camping, portaging, bushcraft, survival. Many levels of it I suppose. As for hydration, there are different methods for each level of camping - from ah I got a jug of water, to using chlorine pills to purify, to ceramic or charcoal water filters.
