I always get a kick out of David saying “something like this” and he executes it uniformly perfect. 😆 Always dug Doug. First time I ever saw him was on a Hurricane video from way back (“Next to You”) and he did one lick that was a simple ghost bend and release that was just mind-blowing.

I like his playing on Dio's live in NYC 2002 dvd. Cool stage presence too.

I was supposed to go to that show, but my wife was about to give birth any second with my Son, so had to miss it, but watch the vid all the time. Insane show, sooooo great. Fuckin DIO is flawless. Seen him twice with Vivian, too.

@@b.scottfarthingsworth Vivian is the man. I love that he's playing the Les paul more the last few years

@@kqh123 I saw both Holy Diver and Last In Line tours, and saw him play the Les Paul, the light-up Aria Pro explorer and Charvels with paint jobs and Floyds. He might've had a beat Fender modded up, too.

@@b.scottfarthingsworth nice, I didn't know he played the Les Pauls back then, I thought he mostly stuck to the Super-strats in the mid 80s (the Charvels, etc). I wasn't even alive when the HD and LiL albums came out lol.

Doug's work on Killing The Dragon/DIO is my favorite stuff of his just tasty monstrous licks/riffs/TONE HOLY TONE is just awesome. Gonna search your vids if there's a dive into that album on your channel - if not, should be!!!

The Hurricane Album with Aldrich Slave to the Thrill was one of the most underrated albums ever. Aldrich's playing paired with Kelly Hansen's vocals were insane. I think the label went under or something and the record had no support. There is a live concert video on here that is fantastic. Aldrich is so underrated.

Last year I got my dream guitar, a Koa Suhr modern with Aldrich PUPs, and within a couple of weeks you've done Reb Beach and now Doug Aldrich, I didn't know who these guys were until your vids. Are you spying on me? Awesome once again!

Great lesson: thanks! Doug's legato and (on occasion) hand position reminds me very much of Randy Rhoads, esp. when Doug is playing a Les Paul
@LateNightLessons2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! I noticed that too! He keeps his hand/fingers in line with the frets - which is actually really great technique. I noticed that I tend to slant my hand/fingers ever so slightly for whatever reason, but his hand position does look like Randy Rhoads hand position and in line with the frets/fretboard. Good call and ROCK ON!
@aylbdrmadison10512 жыл бұрын
@@LateNightLessons : I was noticing his fretting hand thumb placement is like a classical guitarist; behind the second finger as opposed to behind the first finger. I seem to remember Randy did that too.

Reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80's when you couldn't walk out the front door without tripping over a guitarist. Lot of great and very innovative players coming out still, but things really took off during that time because playing guitar was such a big deal to so many people.

hell yeah there's another great lesson I can't wait to dig into this later once I get off work this dude is a very exceptional guitar player that's why I love the content of this channel that goes from household names to just players in the business or players that just get overlooked. hey I'm out here in Baltimore will actually Pasadena Maryland it's about 15-20 minutes outside of Baltimore anyways just wondering if you heard of the band kix they are from here in Baltimore they were a great hair band if you know them and I don't need to explain and if you do know them I like them could you do a cord play on them please if not it's all good I'll still continue to watch and support the channel thank you take care my friend

I grew up in Oakland and Berkeley, California, but I definitely remember Kix from back in the day. Note: I can't help this, but every time I see or hear the word _Baltimore_ now, Zappa's tune _What's New In Baltimore_ starts playing in my head incessantly. I love that song!

Back in the day my guitar teacher showed Paul Gilbert thing that when playing fast the movement should not come from wrist but also from movement of the thumb. I saw you moved your pick hand thumb quite a bit. Have you practised that or was that God given to you?
