The beauty of being old…50+ is I’ve done all of these style and have them in my closet. I still wear trends BUT I also think about proportion and body type. Comfortable shoes are good for the feet but a high heel lengthens the leg. Oversized only on the part of your body that’s less full or balances your body.

I've never thought about bottoms and shoes as the more trendy clothes, but you are right. The funny thing is that I usually invest more in jeans, sneakers or shoes. But I also have less pieces of those categories. I've been tracking my clothes since september and my most worn item is a pair of sneakers: 60 times! There is nothing even close to that number. So I would say that a good investment also depends on how much you are going to use it

Appreciate how clear and concise your videos always are, Jenn. I have learned so much from your channel! I would like to know more about "How to measure the balance point for your face shape", and how this relates to the best necklines for our face shape. Love the color of your shirt, it looks stunning on you. Thank you for another helpful video.

Excellent analysis and terrific tips, thank you! Also being on the older end here, I do think that a great pair of classic tailored and classic men’s wear inspired wool trousers always look classy and en-vogue. Totally agree with the shoes being the relevant point to keep these up to date.

Super insightful video!! Especially as it’s easy to fall in the trap of the promise of “essentials” and then overspend on many items whereas they are not all gonna last for a decade. The challenge I think is that many pants that are more affordable tend to be less well done and in terms of wear, a pants needs to endure a lot more friction and movement than garments for the upper body, so you don’t wanna go too cheap.

Me as a petite, curvy SC not fitting into any of these trends 😳🤣 Anyhow i was a teen in the early 2000s and low-rise jeans with crop tops was totally a thing! Still in pretty decent shape 20 years later, but my less than toned tummy cannot take that look anymore 😂😂 idc about trends, moving forward mid/high-rise pants with tucked in top will always be my friend! Need that waist definition!!

I don't care what the current trend is and if it makes me look like a dinosaur, am never giving up my mid/ high-rise pants ever again 😂😂😂 i actually think the ones embracing low-rise now are those too young to even have been born in my teen heydays of high fashion when the lower you went, the better it was 🤣 in any case i doubt that style (low-rise + crop top) looks good on anyone over 20 lol.

I don’t know why more mid rise pants are not made. I can’t do either extreme, as someone with a short torso and short rise. I hate seeing a cute pair of pants only to realize they have a 12” rise.

I love your videos. I have a hard time with keeping up with trends. I understand the concept, but there are a lot of them that just aren't attractive on anyone. There are also ones that I really like, but they aren't right for my petite frame. I guess if my favorites are out this year, I can catch them in a few more. Thank you for your information and advise.

True! I think as long as you understand the general wave of how trends are changing and incorporate what works for you, that’s good enough ☺️ There are so many trends these days that it doesn’t make sense to try to keep up with them all!

Great video! My own general rule for a lot of wardrobe staples (outerwear, bottoms, loafer and similar styles for shoes) is "Could it pass muster compared to similar menswear items?" That's to say, I like outerwear to follow the proportions of men's tailoring and bottoms (fine, trousers) to hit at a sensible rise and have a proper inseam. Tops for me should flow or drape over the body and be long enough, as you say, to style in various ways. (Especially now that I'm expecting a baby, I want no truck with crop tops of any kind--I can almost feel my belly straining against the shorter hem!) Thank you again for going into detail on the subject.

Ooh love the idea about comparing to menswear!!
@AngryTheatreMaker7 ай бұрын
@@stylerefinement It's never led me wrong. The closer it is to menswear, the less likely it is to date within a year or so--although I grant that a lot of contemporary menswear isn't trend-proof per se. I keep an eye out for construction, material, and overall quality; bonus points if it's in a neutral from my seasonal palette.

As a short torso’d person I’m so glad about low rise jeans, the high waisted/crop-top trend looked so proportionally off on me, and it took me a good while to figure out why! But wearing crop tops with low rise is just insane, even I have to admit.
@durcheinander55547 ай бұрын
Off topic, but I wonder if anybody else feels the same. No matter the trends, I will never stop wearing skinny jeans!! It's not even about the look (even though I do think they balance my proportions). It's the support and comfort of wearing sturdy jean fabric close to the skin. It's like I'm wearing compression leggings on the daily. My sensory issues might have sth to do with this, but I truly can't imagine wearing wide-leg pants to any big, stressful occasion - I need that skinny jean comfort
@isabelaisme69797 ай бұрын
I wear other types of jeans, but certainly the skinny jean will always have a place in my closet. Also, the "no" look on the thumbnail looks way way better than that mess of an outfit on the right. That looks AWFUL. Everything baggy, masculine and as if you borrowed grandpa's clothes? No thank you. The only good thing there are the sambas
