Even though the process of laying down the plastic was a little difficult, I appreciate that you didn't skip over it. It's very honest and time-consuming and shows how the process is in reality. Others will not benefit from the flaws and disadvantages of what you are doing. And we learn so much from your experiences. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas 🙏🤔👌

Hello, I never thought of using a sharpie pen on my Gel Plate, and I'll have to try this. My favorite piece you pulled with the painterly textures with the white circles. I believe it's the one you liked as well. White on white. Love it. It was also neat to watch you layer the 3 different pieces too. Thanks for showing your risk taking and your process.

Although I have found your channel a year later, thank you so much for sharing your creativity and knowledge. I have become a subscriber to your channel. 😊

The saying "like watching paint dry" is often used to express boredom. Not so here! The unapologetic real-time waiting was instructional (how long should I wait??). Each layer was beautiful. I was riveted, waiting with sounds of thunder and dripping faucet in the background only building the suspense...will that choice improve it or ruin it?! This is my kind of thriller! Thank you for sharing your experiments with us.

Thanks so much Laurel! I get put off by videos that are way too fast and the teaching value is lost in favor of a microscopic attention span. That's not how art is done in real life! Thanks for watching!

I loved all the prints made in this session! I would like you to show your brayer off sheets at the end of a session- I usually get some very nice brayer off sheets that I can then use in other projects and as collage papers. A suggestion that might help in setting those large stencils you’ve made onto the plate- try rolling them first onto a tube ( cardboard or wood) and then slowly rolling it onto the plate. This is a tip used by pastry cooks when rolling on the top crusts of pies smoothly. I am betting it will work here too.

I really like that you take inspiration from various artists and do your own version. It makes me want to see more of the artists work. We can learn so much from the Masters! I think we sometimes tend to just do our own thing, which has its own benefits, but the techniques we learn from the Masters can add a lot to our own work.

Super good idea! I believe your paint was too heavy in the spot that didn’t transfer. Maybe add a stencil in the blank area of your blue area that’s blank or add some scribbled writings or markings in a white or gold or silver to finish out your original lines. You can add a piece of fabric or wrinkled tissue paper YOUVE gel printed, words typed on a page beginning with D or O or whatever. Maybe the letters D and O put on in laser cut wood or tiny items glue on or sheet rock patch put on with D and O carved out; the possibilities are endless! Have fun! Hugs from Tennessee USA!

I really like the lost and found quality! I found this 50/50 mix of these two Nova mediums works well to extend the acrylics too - per Greg Simpkins: Slow dry matte liquid 217 and acrylic retarder 299.

I feel guilty for finding the part where you fiddle with that stencil so amusing. Really...I was not laughing at YOU, but the struggle. Also, when the paint leaks under the ripples, it is fine to leave it as-is, certainly. I know however, that you like clean, hard edges as stated in your previous videos. How about just wiping the paint on the plate a little with a damp cloth to clean it up before pulling? I do that often...sometimes with a cotton swab for small areas. I alternatively wait for the design to dry on the plate and use cellophane tape to lift super-clean lines up off the edges of the design where the paint escaped its bounds. I then often brayer on either matte or gloss gel medium or Mod Podge over the dried design and let it dry so it will all pull up with the next pull onto an already interesting previous print.

I really liked this video and subscribed! I enjoy watching you experiment and your outcomes are intriguing. I think that the thicker paint didn’t transfer, I was wondering if it was put back down, left a bit longer, and pressed down a bit more if it would then pick up. Thank you for your videos!

I let myself have a few days to watch this one. Watch a bit, then go away & think about it. Not so familiar with Klee (although his contemporary Kandinsky has always been one of my favorites), so I turned to MoMA for help. Also, I am becoming aware of an entity I’m calling “The Lost Prints.” These are the images which you create and I love, but which I let go because they are steps along the way. 🙏 & *Thanks*

Definitely baby oil, if some little remains then maybe a dry wipe with oil rather than a wet one. Nearly everything comes off eventually, my worst was the black from a set of cheap oil pastels. Graphite will disappear in one clean given a little patience.

The cutting out work was a bit tedious for you, Fulton. If you ever access some firmer large clear laminate sheets they could be useful. I retrieved some big road project laminate maps from a bin once, not clear but useful underlay for art projects and perhaps templates. As usual I follow your step by step process and at the pretty cool finale the thought occurs, how did he do that?

I’m once again enjoying you push the boundaries of gelli printing into the realm of fine art with your bold experimentation. As I watched the struggle with the stencil it occurred to me that maybe you could fold it in fourths from either lengthwise or width and then lay it on the edge, unfold one fold, smooth down, then the next one, smooth down and so on. Then I thought you might be able to roll it up onto a thick dowel and then unroll it by rolling the dowel up the plate. (If the paint was dry you could roll it back up that way as well. However when I was picturing the dangling pieces and the “floppiness” of the plastic I thought about interfacing that sewers use. It comes in various thicknesses as well as stiffness and comes as iron on and also plain. I know a lot of people use it to make there own stencils. You can buy it by the roll which is more economical than by the yard. So I don’t think ironing onto plastic would work but you could either use a spray adhesive or you could transfer the design onto the interfacing. Just a thought… or three or four. lol Love, love, love that third pull- the one you said reminds you of Paul Klee! I admire him as well.

Thanks so much for your kind and helpful suggestions! As you can see i am learning as I go, not ashamed to show my clumsiness fumbling around with sheets of soft plastic! I was able to solve this problem by using the colored plastic folder dividers (school supplies) and cut them to the shapes I like. They are cheap, strong, washable and can be reused countless times. 👍🏻
