I was a couple hours away from the big tornadoes in Vine Grove Kentucky visiting my grandparents when the wind hit during the day. It felt like the entire house was shaking for 3 seconds before we lost power for a couple of hours. Some perfectly healthy trees were ripped out of the ground with their roots still intact. I am so thankful that there was no other damage to their neighborhood besides a few trees and fences. Obviously a lot of other people weren’t as lucky. It feels like a stab to the heart seeing how the police officer talked to that couple. It’s revolting to me that FEMA refused to help that poor old man. We need to reform our bureaucratic systems because obviously churches, communities, and kind strangers have proven time and time again to be much more helpful in these situations. Thank god for that firefighter and man behind the camera!!

Weather manipulation. They are trying to get small communities to move in or near big cities.

Why didn't the camera operator put them in his vehicle ? Emergency services are overwhelmed. If you haven't worked in it or during a crisis, you couldn't understand. SMH

If you read the comments, I don’t have a large tax payer funded SUV, I am in a small car set up with electronic equipment for journalism, no space for passenger bc it’s not my job. Plus, I wanted to get these folks in with professionals who can assess their conditions much better than I can. This reflexive defensiveness to defend cops at all costs is insanity and we as a society need to be better at critical thinking.

I think that extreme weather has always happened but it is captured more often now that everyone has a camera and access to instant information through social media, with no gatekeeping by legacy media

God bless these good people! Country folks can survive! In have always wanted a tornado shelter. Even though we live in Alabama. We have had some close calls. I feel one day it is inevitable we might get hIt. Smart man!! Strong and very wise!
@JonathanPetramala8 сағат бұрын
Alabama usually has some fast moving storms and tornadoes so please make sure on bad weather days to pay close attention to alerts and have a safe place nearby that you can retreat to if needed with the family!

I`ve been in several tornadoes and very bad hurricanes including a direct hit by Betsy in New Orleans in 1965 and Laura in central Louisiana in 2020. The roof lifted on the home and a tree almost landed on me. A tornado touched down at 2am about a mile away several months ago. I knew what it was but it was a full two minutes later before a warning confirmed it. Scary sound to hear when you live in a camper with no car.

I’ve lived all over the U.S. and I can say without a doubt Kentucky has the worst weather in the country. Tornadoes , 6 month monsoon season ( no joke) , ice storms , unusually high winds every day , maybe 5 clear sky days per year , add the low paying jobs and the high cost of living and you have one of the worst states in which to live. Horrible place to live…

The door for those shelters scare the heck outta me, if debris fell on or against them, it might be tough to get out...especially the second one....I have a bit of claustrophobia...thank goodness it saved a lot of people though.....
@YarnLoverReginaКүн бұрын
Well I’m not a troll and I also believe that you should have put them in your car for shelter and letting the firefighters know that there was a gas leak where they were. They were unhurt and there would be a shelter set up somewhere. The responsibility of the help that you speak about is all of us that are able in the time of duress. Rescuers sometimes need to be rescued! We should all be trained how to be a good citizen.
@JonathanPetramalaКүн бұрын
I don’t have a large taxpayer funded SUV capable of fitting passengers inside. I am prepared to be a journalist, my job, not a first responder…their job. In the end you’re complaining about me going out of my way to help. Maybe rethink this a little bit.
@YarnLoverReginaКүн бұрын
@@JonathanPetramala you missed my point all together. When you are in circumstances like that YOU who are uninjured ARE THE FIRST RESPONDERS! That’s media Bub. If you want good video 🤷♀️

Jonathan, thank you for bringing us all to the moments after a tornado and the natural human emotion involved with such a tragic situation. Many times, all we see is the damage and destruction. Your gift of storytelling brings us to the location in a not-easily-done way. Let me buy you a meal if you are ever in Amarillo, TX.

These high tornado areas; neighbors should pitch in together to build a shelter for their families. And have a process in place for when a tornado is coming so they all can cover together! It’ll be cheaper for each family and life saving!
