Sometime slow fall, sometimes fast. Sometimes big profile, sometime small. Sometimes big action, sometimes subtle... Can’t tell you when or why...But sometimes! What a pro tip😂

I flip and punch the big d bomb about 80% of the time. I have caught all of the biggest bass in my life using that bait. I've even caught crappy and goggle eye on it punching with a 1.5 oz weight! The very first day I ever fished it I caught a nine even. Since then I have caught many, fives a few sixes, a 7.5 and an 8.5 It delivers numbers too at times.

Probably THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN PITCHING AND FLIPPING!! I've loved to flip pitch and punch since I started fishing 6 years ago and I used to use all heavier weights like 3/8 - 1/2 for everything then now ill toed on atleast 2 pitching setups. 1 bigger bait, heavier weight and another smaller bait, lighter weight and if they won't bite thise ill mix in longer slender baits and smaller slender baits if they don't want the thumping or dead actions

@@JohnCrews makes sense! Thanks man.. I've always just adjusted weight depending on tha depth I was fishing or of course temperature of water. but never really adjusted based on tha bite. always assumed i needed color or profile change but ill definitely start playing around with my fall rate more often.

3/8 jig with a rage craw or spicy beaver has been my big producer. The man bear pig or the Gambler 5" Stinger with a 3/8 flipping weight is awesome too. I wished I could afford to have ten flipping rods rigged up at all times because there are so many great creature baits out there🐟👊🏼

That fall rate is #1 like you say. Hey man that bigger destroyer is one of the best night baits i have ever used. I fish it on a 1/8 tungsten bullet weight. That slow fall, all that action and the best sent on the market on a riprap bank with shad flipping and its on. My wife cant keep her nose out of my missle baits she loves the smell.

I flip flooded bushes with a 3/16 or 1/4 oz weight all the time. Always have. That being said, I will go slightly heavier at times. But a 3/16 oz weight on my flippin bait is almost exclusive. I also tend to stay un pegged always, even pitchin heavy cover. Say what you may.

Great points John!! How long do you flip a bait before giving up and changing the weight or the size? Do you start bulky and go lower on the weight or do you change the size first? I'm just trying to get a general idea on where to start. Thanks again!

Would you consider Smith Mountain Lake to be a "flipping lake"? If so, I'd guess around docks and laydowns... Is there any need to use a really heavy weight there, since there isn't really much to punch through? Thanks for putting out all these videos, I'm learning a lot!

IMO, I tend to think of that situation more as a Precision Pitching while still focusing on these three factors as well as adding a fourth factor. Angle of bait, not in regards to your position but approach angle of bait to the bass and angle of departure from bass. Never forget that bass ambush so set your bug up to be a victim of the ambush
