Your points are valid. Most important, say a silver tray, pitcher, & cups in fair shape. How do you determine what you are willing to pay or walk away. Under spot price on that day, or well under market value?

I've been buying sterling silver items from my local thrift stores and I have now like 200- 250 ounces of sterling silver. Thrift store sometimes make mistakes. I notice that when they have lots of work they don't pay attention well to silver items and that's very for me, my well increases, but I go during the week and not weekends. I've been doing good so far.

Found a 90 piece silver-plate flatware set w/wooden case at a local Goodwill last weekend for $35.00. Started going through each piece one by one, bought the whole package after finding two sterling pieces. Once home, found 10 more sterling utensils totaling around 13.5ozs - it was a good day.

Four questions. I have poor eyesight so how would you propose I use a jeweler's loupe while "being cool"? Have you ever picked up something you know you're not interested in & setting it down to distract another buyer? If it comes down to scrapping because maybe it's real but not appealing or broken, how do you find someone the best place to take it? What diamond tester do you use?

Do you clean any of the silver/gold you find? I bought a ultrasonic cleaner and am considering polishing some pieces.

Dominator 8u2 yes I do clean some items, it sort of depends on the item. I have a ultrasonic cleaner and I have a commercial grade jewelry buffer/polisher for larger items and polishing and getting rid of deep scratches/damage. Thanks for watching and commenting

Hardway Joe you need to shop around and find someone who is willing to pay as close to melt value as possible. Usually I tell people to get at least 75-80% melt value. That’s for scrap. If the item isn’t scrap potential then sell it yourself on eBay for full retail. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions hit me up I am here to help.

Hardway Joe scrapgoldcalculator.com is a great site for figuring out what the scrap value is of the gold or silver you have. Simple to use and very accurate based on live gold prices. Just info if you didn’t know.

I am sorry a word or mispronunciation effected you so much while watching my video. I understand your complaint and I will work hard to never say AXED again so that you can sit and watch my videos without being disturbed or aggravated. First off i did not get my panties in a bunch. And if you want the facts behind why people struggle with pronouncing this particular word you got to understand the history of the person. I lived in New Orleans my entire childhood and New Orleans is full of creole people. I'm not a linguist, but I had a friend who was a grad student in linguistics explain some of this to me, and it seems to boil down to two factors: (1) consonant cluster reduction and (2) metathesis. A consonant cluster reduction is when you pronounce a word with two more consecutive consonants by dropping at least one of the consonants. This is why, for example, you might hear "fifty cents" pronounced as "fitty cent," because the "f" in "fifty" and the "s" in "cents" were both dropped. The switch from "ask" to "ax" is similar, because it takes a word with two consonants and pronounces it as if it only has one consonant. Metathesis is when people switch the order of consonants when pronouncing something. Classic examples includes little kids pronouncing "spaghetti" as "pisketti" or regional dialects that pronounce "foliage" as "foilage." In this respect, "ask" to "ax" is a metathesis, because the "s" and the "k" are flipped to say "aks," although it gets spelled as "ax."
