Hey! Quick note on preservatives, some believe that vitamin E and a number of “natural preservatives” are effective enough to kill bacteria and mold in water base products, this is not only false, but it is harmful to the consumer. I’m all about natural ingredients (which are still chemicals by the way), but if you decide to create at home or for your business please use an effective preservative like phenoxyethanol, need some advice on some others feel free to reach out to me at sharmaine369@gmail.com! YES!!!!! It is disturbing how many people are under the impression that vitamin e is a preservative. Same thing goes for essential oils. I hear it ALL THE TIME!! People just cant seem to wrap their heads around the fact that they are not in any way reliable preservatives. I also hear all the time that they put witch hazel in their product so its fine, or they put commercial aloe vera in their product and that has a preservative so its fine. People either cant, or wont, understand that you cant "borrow" preservatives from an already preserved product. I hear all the time "I do blah blah blah all the time and i have never had a problem" Thank you being a voice of reason out here on the world wide interwebs!

People are so afraid of chemicals when absolutely everything is a damn chemical 😅. It’s frustrating to see companies that have no idea what the difference between preservatives and antioxidants are selling products and telling people to just put them in the fridge, as if things can’t spoil in the fridge. And they use their ignorance as a selling tactic that apparently works because so many people believe the misinformation.

I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to phenoxyethanol as well as fragrances and environmental stuff. That ingredient and other preservatives in hair conditioners that I looked up are known allergens. It and some other preservatives make my scalp itch strongly and causes hair loss if I use a leave-in product that has it. It’s hard to avoid it so I’ll use it but won’t rub it into my scalp. I rinse it out if it starts itching before times up. I also stopped using deep and leave-in conditioners.

Hi, thanks for this video, very instructive but I have a few questions if you don't mind. What do you think of the preservatives made from Benzyl alcohol and Dehydroacetic acid (Cosgard/Geogard 221) are they really effective ? I'm making some homemade cosmetics and I don't think phenoxyethanol is sold for these kind of uses. About the BTMS, the concerns I have heard were more about the fact that it is bad for the environment and coating the hair in a silicon-like way which I might want to avoid since I have low porosity. Is this true ?

@CurlyChemistry4 жыл бұрын
Eric Williams I strongly disagree with you as well, phenoxyethanol at 1% or less in hair care formulations are not irritants or sensitizers. By the time phenoxy gets to the hair it’s so diluted in the formula it has no effect on the hair. Not to mention the fact that’s it’s water soluble and easily washes off the hair as soon as someone washes their hair. Like I mentioned in a previous video, everything even water is toxic at a certain amount. Let’s not single out phenoxy and ignore everything else.
@Beezyteegraphics4 жыл бұрын
But what if you use 3 or more products at one time containing this ingredient then the 1% increases because of the various products used. That is when it can become problematic. Also, if you use moisturizers, you won’t be washing it out immediately, so where does the toxin go. It’s absorbed the secreted in the urine, but it lives in the body until excreted?
