A unique sight over the skies of Old Warden. For the second time this year, two Hawker Hurricanes (the only airworthy Battle of Britain veterans) and the sole airworthy Hawker Sea Hurricane flew together for the Shuttleworth Military Pageant 2017.
You can also see the TF-51 and B-17 displays on my channel.
Full highlights will be available soon.

HE111 crews must have been terrified at the sight of a squadron of these coming head on piloted by fearless and very cranky Polish pilots.

Don't blame them being cranky the British and commonwealth pilots were happy with killing the aircraft and him ending up in captivity the poles wanted the pilot too if you know what I mean.

The Poles weren't just given Hurricanes, 303 squadron fought in the Battle of Britain in Spitfires, and made a damn good account of themselves getting more kills in the BoB than any other squadron. Revenge is a very strong motivator.

I read a fact based novel called Piece of Cake by a british author. Its the best recollection of the war from the fall of france to the battle of britain, and in it he said polish pilots wanted to kill germans all day every day and when poland was conquered a standing order in their air force was to ram germans planes! That book is a marvelous read!

Stunningly beautiful sight and sound. Very well filmed, a joy to watch. It`s long forgotten now but many years ago I went into the Govenor`s office at work ( Hawkers at Kingston ) and saw a pile of rusty tubes on the floor. Being a Hurricane nut I knew what they were and immediately volunteered for the job of making replicas on the tube forming machine. I got the job and the fuselage tubes I made are now flying on the Sea Hurricane in the above video. I am quite proud of that.

Gorgeous! I remember being at the World Gliding Championship (spectator I hasten to add) at South Cerney. A Hurricane "The Last of the Many" flew a beautuful display ending with a pass so low he had to climb out over the road embankment at the side of the field. Must have interesting to have been in a car and looking down at a Hurricane coming towards you - I seem to recall some flashing brake lights!

Bonjour, le vol de ces 3 Hurricanes est magnifique, c'est un avion emblématique de la bataille d'Angleterre et qui est pour une grande part dans cette victoire. Je suis en train de lire justement le livre "Un duel d'aigles" de Peter Townsend qui est magnifique, que j'ai trouvé d'occasion dans une brocante avec une dédicace de l'auteur, qui fut pilote de Hurricane et je suis super content d'avoir découvert votre vidéo pendant cette lecture. they focused on the spit for development thinking it was more modern & had more potential. its something ive been giving some thought of late & i think they should have focused on the hurricane. they could have upgraded the wings again, upgraded the main body to be monocoque pre stressed etc. was far easier to service, train on, take off and land with & with some engine upgrades could have easily upped the performance, not only that but it was multi role so with higher production numbers could have displaced some of the lessor performing models the RAF & FAA were forced to keep in service (remember for 2 spits you could have 3 hurricanes) the spit by comparison has just the most Frankenstein internal wing structures, narrow legs but it was eulogised & looked beautiful. even the germans ego would have them say they were shot down by a spit even when there were none around for 100s of miles.

Incidentally, the British/Commonwealth pilots were trained to open fire from around 200/300ft (25ishMetres). When the Polish and Czechoslovakian experts were allowed to join in they closed to 50ft (30m) before blasting the bombers out of the sky, literally.

I saw a pilot (at an airshow) push over into a steep dive and the engine still cutout. That was a defect in the float carburetor that should have been corrected by the bright boys at Rolls Royce before the war started. A truly fantastic display of the glory that was the RAF!

A. I am NOT a Brit, I am Scottish. B. The 303s were pea shooters. However, take EIGHT of them, synchronise them to merge in a patten at 100ft, add an experienced pilot with the nerve to get in close and Hey Presto, you defeat the Greatest Airforce of the time, The Luftwaffe.

The plane that won the Battle of Britain WW2, not the flashier Spitfire that sadly gets all the plaudits & the Hurricane barely, if at all. This needs changing. Spitfire yes faster a bit this a bit that but boy it cost much more used only metal, couldn't take the punishment a Hurricane took due to its wooden frame & doped fabric. The Hurricane operated in all the theatres frozen sandy deserts jungle where the spitfire struggled like a Ferrari. The Hurricane was parachuted in bits in jungle Burma & reassembled. BIG TICK!

@georgemorley1029
@georgemorley1029 3 жыл бұрын
No, the Battle of Britain was never going to determine if Hitler was going to cross the channel or not. It did determine whether or not the Germans would bomb the south of England with impunity or not, but the geography of the situation meant the remainder of the RAF and the RN home fleet could simply fly down or sail down from the North when the invasion started (remember, the Luftwaffe still had to fly over to loiter and then fly back again), and drive the whole invasion out of the channel before it could even get a foothold. The Germans were hopelessly unprepared for a major amphibious invasion. Their operation sea lion preparations were laughable. The Battle of Britain was in reality a short term part of the conflict, whereas the Battle of the Atlantic (which lasted for the entirety of the war in Europe) was the only thing that could have brought Britain to its knees. If you doubt me, read this direct quote from none other than Churchill: “The only thing that really frightened me during the war was the U-boat peril. I was even more anxious about this battle than I had been about the glorious air fight called the 'Battle of Britain'."

Aviation Highlights Hi mate, great vid, love the footage of these old birds in action. Always had a soft spot for the Hurri, a real solid workhorse who deserved more praise than she got thanks to those show pony prettyboy Spits :-) A couple of years ago we finally got a hurricane back in the air here in Australia too but everytime it’s been at a show near me I’ve had other commitments :-( I’ll see it one day. Just a suggestion based on the comments above, have you tried neutral density filters for your camera? They are basically like sunglasses for your lens, they darken the image so have to slow your shutter speed down and allow you to hit that optimum ratio of your shutter speed being twice your frame rate (so at 50fps you can be at 1/100th sec etc) then everything looks smooth. You may still get a little bit prop issues when they’re idling slow, it just happens when the prop rpm randomly synchs with the shutter speed/frame rate, but you’ll definitely get smooth circles when they’re flying. You get the same problem with LED lights on Ac power and some LED screens flickering. Anyway ND Filters come in different strengths, probably a ND16 or ND32 is a good place to start for shooting in bright summer days. You can also use them if you doing interviews etc so you can open your aperture right up and have the person sharp and background blurry. Totes cinematique ;-) and a lot cheaper than a new camera. Just thought I’d mention it in case you didn’t know about them.
